Anzaldua’s “Borderlands/La Frontera” is an argument of the formation of Self from deep within the landscape of the margins, that “thin, razor edged barb-wired” liminal place between cultures where movement is foreclosed and survival means adapting one’s spirit and emotions and psyche to this new harsh sociopolitical environment. She notes early on that this is not only a physical space but a spiritual, sexual and emotional one, too. She calls upon a methodology that is a synthesis of psychology, cultural studies and specifically Chicana feminism to describe this setting.
