Double-entry bookkeeping (DEB) is defined as an accounting system that recognizes both sides of a transaction using equal amounts of debits and credits. Unlike a single-entry system, it tells the whole story of a transaction (Gleeson-White 11). In order to understand how DEB came into existence, one must reflect on history.
