For my second experiencing history memoir I read Enrique's Journey.
Enrique’s journey starts to take place in the 1989 time period, when George Bush was the president of the United States, and there was an illegal alien problem. George Bush wanted to see some immigrants legal and have them be part of his “family” (U.S.A.). He thought there was a problem because the system broke and people from other countries were working very hard to come to the U.S. Enrique was a young boy from Honduras, his mother left when he was a young boy. He lived with his Father, and Grandmother. Then he moves in with his Uncle. His uncle died, he ended up on the streets, and he started doing drugs. Most people in Honduras lived in poverty. He started to do more drugs, and started drinking a lot. He wanted answers from his mother. Enrique decided to go look for his mother, he was brave and passionate that he would find her. On his way to the U.S. he had to ride the death train,cross polluted rivers, and jump trains. He used the drugs for pain of hunger, to escape life, and he got addicted. The drugs he used were from shoe glue, so it was very easy for young people to get the glue. Most kids died looking for their mothers. A lot of people never returned back home, and were jumped by gangs. At the age of seventeen years old, Enrique watched others who were trying to come into the U.S. dye, from gangs,starvation,etc. He was almost beaten to death, and was tortured. He hoped to find a better life in America. He found his mother, and met his half sister, later he found out he was a father. Enrique had unpaid parking tickets, and was selling drugs so he went to jail. When he got out he now found out he had a son and wanted to bring his family safely to the U.S. I feel that immigrant dont want to just steal jobs. They want to connect with their loved ones. I feel they shouldn't have
