In the story Old School by Tobias Wolff Dean Makepeace is a strong man. Strong men can vary from physical strength, to intellectual, to will power. Makepeace was strong because of his actions and his odor that he emitted.
Dean Makepeace is a strong man ,when he called Jack into his office to set him straight
“He closed the door behind me and looked me over without a word of greeting, then motioned me toward the hot seat…”(18). Since Makepeace didn’t talk it shows his strong will, and the strong presence that Makepeace was using to intimidate Jack. Even Makepeace’s scent was strong “He reeked of tobacco...I was nearly sickened by it…”(18) Deans smell was intimidating jack by making him feel nausea meaning it was extremely strong. Makepeace
