The book, Powwowing among the Pennsylvania Dutch, brings the twentieth century practices into focus. On page seventeen is a list of ailments believed to be cured by powwowing. Mrs. Lenhart believes the disease is transferred to the powwower and advises the powwower to be in good health. Powwowing can be used for more than cures. Finding lost articles or people, good luck, and binding animals or humans are some of the other uses.
Kinesics and proxemics are used for healing with powwowers who must see the person needing a cure, although there are cases where some healers can heal remotely.
