The artwork in which I have chosen to discuss this week from the book is Robert Longo’s piece entitled “Corporate Wars: Wall of Influence”.
In reviewing this Cast Aluminum art there is numerous amounts of iconography with regard to symbolism and motif in regards to imagery. Under them is a man that appears to be falling from the corporate ladder and attempting to hush others or take them down with him. Looking at the bottom of the middle the two individuals are being pushed down and not being allowed to move ahead.
The woman and the man on the top right are having a power struggle between each other, while the gentleman below is trying to gain control of a co-worker who seems to be overbearing. The gentleman at the bottom right appears to have his hand in the groin of the powerful man trying to gain control of him or ultimately make him submissive. While the man to the far right appears to have his hand pulled back as if to throw a punch to the man holding the other mans groin, displaying his anger toward him.
In this artwork I can feel the intense emotions of aggravation, disgust, frustration, betrayal, pride and victimization of each individual person depicted. The struggle they face on a daily basis within the corporate world is eminent with this piece of art. The art gave me a greater visual perspective on the challenges women face while attempting to break the glass
