Summary of “Salvation” “Salvation” by Langston Hughes is a short narrative story about his experience being ‘saved’ while attending church with his Auntie Reed. He was going on thirteen years of age at the time and he tells us about how he felt as he waited for Jesus to make an appearance before him. His Auntie Reed’s church was holding a big revival during the week. Many sinners were being brought before Christ. Before the revival is to end, they are having a special meeting just for children. Auntie Reed is very excited for him to be there and be brought before Jesus. She tells him that when you’re saved, you’ll see a light and feel something inside of you that has never been present before. Hearing from many older people before, he had believed what she was telling him. As he sits on the mourner’s bench inside this hot crowded church waiting for Jesus, he listens to the preacher sing songs and preaches. At the end, the preacher holds out his arms and calls out to the young lambs to come to Jesus. Some went up right away while others waited and remained sitting on the bench. The older people in the church began to sing and got the whole church in an uproar. Then the remaining of the children went up before Jesus and was saved except for two. Langston and another young boy named Westley. It was getting late and Westley was tired of sitting and went up to be saved. Langston was sitting alone now as everyone in the church was calling for him on up to Jesus. As everyone continued to call for him to go up, he sat and waited for Jesus to come to him, but nothing was happening. He began to feel bad for keeping everyone so late and began to think about Westley. Westley took Gods name in vain, lied in church, and was still up on the platform happy and smiling down at him. God did nothing to him for this and therefore Langston decided that he too

Langston Hughes Salvation Summary

..."Salvation" is excerpted from Langston Hughes' personal history as a sample of an occurrence that affected him incredibly. He was going to the church to see Jesus. Langston is actually a young man around the age of thirteenth who is by all accounts experiencing a typical religious custom that is ordinarily gave to youngsters when they achieve a specific age in what is by all accounts an alternate kind of society. At this age, youngsters are asked, or possibly even better, advised to have confidence in God, and at exactly that point will these kids have the capacity to accomplish immaculate "salvation." This is apparent in the first paragraph where the writer mentioned "Then just before the revival ended, they held a special meeting for children,...

Methods of Evangelism

...Blalock Liberty University Online The Romans Road Summary of Method – The Romans Road is a method of evangelism and is considered an intellectual method. It is a plan of salvation that utilizes various verses derived from the book of Romans. These verses are often memorized and used by evangelists to form a cohesive explanation of the need of salvation. Advantages of Using This Method – There are several advantages to the Romans Road method. One is that it is an easy way to explain and share the Gospel. These various verses, when put together, depict a clear and easy presentation. Another advantage is that it very much Biblically based. In explaining salvation, it is literally using Scripture in sharing the faith. Disadvantages of Using This Method – One disadvantage is the fact that all of the sources in this method are Scripture. While this is a great thing in reality, for a non-Christian who does not assume the Bible to be God’s word, it can come across as less credible from his/her perspective. The Romans Road method is a path to salvation and clearly uses Scripture as support and sources. This method has the potential of leading into a discussion on the credibility of the Bible, which can become off topic in leading someone to Christ. In other words, for a non-believer who wants to refute the word of God, it can potentially become a distraction from the discussion of salvation. Methods of Evangelism

...Summary of Method This method is to use love, compassion, and service to reach people. We have to remember to always have a smile on our face and do this with a generous heart. Meaning that we want to the work of a servant, just as Jesus set an example by washing the disciple’s feet (John 13:1-17). Jesus wants to show that no one is above doing a servant’s work. I also see motivation of servant evangelism in Mathew 25. Jesus is telling his deciples to feed the hungry, give the homeless shelter and cloths, take care of the sick, and meet the essential needs of people, when doing this; it would be the same as if the disciples were meeting the needs of Jesus. Savant Evangelism is more about showing love thru the gospel rather than speaking the gospel. Advantages of Using This Method People tend to remember negative things about people or groups rather than to remember the positive things about the same people or groups. The advantage to Service Evangelism is that it can change the perception that people may have about Christians. Even though negative perception has been brought on to the Christian by themselves throughout time, but people unfairly put all Christians in a negative category. People do not easily remember that hospital, orphanages, and homeless shelters that were started by Christian organizations. Christians should be more active in the roll of showing that someone cares in the lost and dieing world. There is an old saying, “People do not...

Methods of Evangelism

...Methods of Evangelism Romans Road Method Summary of Method – The Romans road method of evangelism is a way of leading the lost to salvation using verses from the book of Romans out of the Word of God. It is a very powerful and effective way of explaining why we need salvation, how God has provided us the way to salvation, how we are to receive it, and what’s the outcome after receiving it. Advantages of Using This Method – One advantage to this method is that it’s simple to understand. The biggest advantage is that we’re using the Word of God and by doing so we’re getting supernatural power by the Holy Spirit to start working on the person or persons we’re talking to. We’re not the ones that “close” people into salvation, it’s the Holy Spirit that does the work after we’ve planted and watered the seeds. Disadvantages of Using This Method – When using this message it could be really easy for the people hearing this to not fully understand the meat and potatoes behind salvation. Too many times than I care to count I see believers caring more about the numbers of people led to salvation than the actual quality of it. If not done correctly people tend to think that just simply saying the words is enough when it’s not. In order for true salvation to take place one must confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and “truly” believe it in their hearts or else they’re buying a “knock off” version of salvation and being misled which could be eternally damaging. I don’t know about...

Methods of Evangelism

...Methods of Evangelism Romans Road Summary of Method – According to the About Christianity website, “The Romans Road lays out the plan of salvation through a series of Bible verses from the book of Romans. When arranged in order, these verses form an easy, systematic way of explaining the message of salvation.” (1) The Romans Road is the plan of salvation that we often use in our church and with our youth. The verses that we use include: Romans 3:23, 6:23, 5:8 and 10:9-10 & 13.   Advantages of Using This Method – All of the bible verses are pulled directly from scripture in Romans and give a clear view of the plan of salvation. It is also easy to follow and easy to lead. Lastly, it focuses on one book of the Bible instead of many which could potentially be overwhelming to seeking Christians. Disadvantages of Using This Method – Some seekers may question why a person leading someone to Christ is only using one book of the Bible. Using a different method would avoid that questioning of what someone is trying to “hide” in the rest of the book. Also if you are only teaching out of Romans and have only studied that book then someone asks you a theological question pertaining to something else in the Bible you may not know the answer. Servant Evangelism Summary of Method – Servant Evangelism is, “a simple, straightforward approach to sharing God’s love in simple, practical ways.” (3) Simply put it’s doing nice things for people out of the goodness of your heart. Literally...

...This is the 6th book of New Testament and out of all the letters or epistles that Paul wrote in his time, his letter to the Romans is the longest, most detailed and most ambitious. The two major personalities in this book are: the writer, the Apostle Paul, and Phoebe who delivered the letter to the Roman Christian Church. Paul addressed such things in this letter as; the meaning of the gospel, the importance of the gospel, the nature of Gods salvation, how salvation can be achieved by all whom seek it, the people who are in need of it, the effects of salvation on an individual’s life, and the impact of salvation on the community as a whole. “For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you — that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine” (Romans 1:11-12). The most important and probably the central theme seen throughout this book is the faith in God’s righteousness and Christ’s sacrifice, "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes... For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith" (Romans 1:16-17). Paul: Paul was personally responsible for writing quite a bit of the New Testament, of which some include, 13 letters or epistles to the growing churches across the Roman Empire. Paul, or previously known as Saul before his conversion to Christianity, was an enforcer for the Pharisees, and he was responsible...

Methods of Evangelism

...Methods of Evangelism Joshua Fleming Liberty University Online The Roman Roads Summary of Method – The Roman Road is a methodic evangelism approach of presenting the Gospel through various bible verses throughout the book of Romans. From this approach of evangelism, each of the verses are placed in a systematic method to show us who is in need of salvation, why they are in need of salvation, the way in which God will provide salvation, ways in which we can respond to God’s salvation, and finally the results of us responding to God’s gift of salvation. In Romans 3:10-12, and 23 its states “No one is righteous—not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.” “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard”. These verses show us that every single person is in need of salvation. It states boldly that we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s standards. In Romans 6:23 it states “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” This verse shows us that as sinners and unrighteous people our consequences of our sin is death. Although it does show us that we deserve death it always gives us hope through the gift in which God has given us. In Romans 5:8 it shows us that “God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” God gave us the greatest gift anyone could ever...

Methods of Evangelism

...Methods of Evangelism Tim Fouse-Clark Liberty University Online The Romans Road Summary of the Method – According to Earley and Wheeler, “the Romans Road to Salvation is a way of explaining the good news of salvation using verses from the book of Romans (Wheeler). The way that my church explained it to me is that were 5 steps: 1. There is a problem: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Rom 3:3, NIV). Explain that we are all sinners and that there are none except God that are righteous. 2. The problem comes with a price: “For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom 6:23). Since we are sinners, we are deserving of punishment in hell. 3. Payment of the price was paid by Christ’s sacrifice: “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom 5:8). As propitiation for our sin, Christ took it all on His shoulders and died for us. 4. The prayer that leads to salvation: “if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Rom 10:9, 13). You need to believe it in your heart and exclaim it with your mouth. 5. Salvation through Jesus leaves us justified: “Therefore, there is now no condemantion for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Rom 8:1). We have been made new, as if we have never sinned...

Methods of Evangelism

...Methods of Evangelism Nathalie Graham Liberty University Online The Romans Road Summary of Method – The Romans Road is an “intellectual” plan using a collection of verses from the New Testament book of Romans to explain God’s gift of salvation. When these verses are arranged in order they offer a systematic presentation of the plan of salvation (What is Roman’s Road?) Through the presentation of these verses one learns that we are all sinners (Romans 3:10, 23), that the wages of sin are death (Romans 6:23), that Jesus paid for our sins on the cross (Romans5:8), that salvation comes through faith, by confessing with our mouths and believing in our hearts that Jesus is Lord (Romans 10:9,10), and the need to call on the Lord for salvation (Romans 10:13) (What Is Roman’s Road?). The sharing of these scriptures opens the door for one to accept salvation. Advantages of Using This Method – There are several advantages to using this method of evangelism. First, for those that are new to witnessing to others the Roman’s Road offers a solid Biblical plan to winning souls. This method is laid out so that even children and the newest Christian would be able to share Christ with others using the scriptures. Secondly, the plan exposes the non-believer to the scriptures. Thirdly, this method is effective in reaching those that accept that the Bible is the Word of God and are willing to accept its teachings. Evangelism

...of Evangelism Intellectual Method Summary of Method: The Four Spiritual Laws are a way of sharing the good news of the salvation that is available through faith in Jesus Christ. It is a simple way of organizing the important information in the Gospel into four points. Advantages of Using This Method – This method was developed by Bill Bright in 1957 and can be found in the pamphlet Have You Heard of the Four Spiritual laws. The method is easy to understand and simplifies the gospel to the basics. It can take a simple believer and turn him/her to an evangelist. The Four Laws are (1) God loves us and has a wonderful plan for our life (John 3:16, John 10:10), (2) Man is sinful and separated from God. He can’t know and experience God’s love for his life (Roman 3:23, Romans 6:23), (3) Sin can only be forgiven through Jesus Christ will we know God’s plan for our life (Romans 5:8, 1 Corinthians 15: 3-6, John 14:6), (4) We must receive Jesus Christ individually as Savior and Lord to know and experience his plan for our life (John 1:12), Ephesians 2: 8-9), (John 3:1-8), (Revelation 3:20) There are a few disadvantages to these spiritual laws. The first disadvantage is that the message of the gospel is watered down and this allows a conversion that is too quick. This is not a good idea for non-believers. It also suggests that a person can be saved easily by the prayer of salvation and no other work has to be done. Lifestyle Evangelism Summary of Method Lifestyle evangelism is...
