After Brian’s parents are divorced, Brian is going to his father's house to see him. Since the plane crashes Brian does not get see his his father. But through this book, Gary Paulsen lets us know how hard it might be and how little fun it could really be living in the woods with literally nothing. Thanks to Gary Paulsen we now have a successful book with a main character, and a plot. In this book Brian, who is the main character who is lost in the Canadian forest far away from any town or city where he is fighting to stay alive. Brian has literally nothing except a hatchet and a old rady tady windbreaker and some money that he later uses to start a fire. As any other kid who is lost in the forest, he was scared and had no hope. He waited more than a month and nothing came for him, but he is still waiting for a plane to come. The plane was going down and the pilot died from a heart attack. Brian had to do something he crashed the airplane into a lake in the middle of the forest. He learns to survive from the mistake he did and was able to make fire from the hatchet. Brian saw an airplane fly over him, he immediately ran over to light the fire but he was too late. He then thought one thing, he should die and be done. He did not kill himself but he does get poked by a porcupine, sprayed by a skunk, ran over by a moose, and hit by the winds of a tornado. Brian had to rebuild his shelter, he found some of the old sides on the beach. He finishes it and tries to sleep. He then had the thought of the survival pack in the plane. He makes a raft and floats to the plane and makes his way into the plane. Brian gets inside of the plane and manages to find the pack. Brian now has the pack and is able live off of it. He hears a plane over him and sees it turning back. Brian now is safe and he is now found and saved by the
