INTRODUCTION TO SITE:
The Bobcat Golf Range is a full-service driving range located in the city of San Marcos. The golf range is well known for being equipped with many different services to offer, including their in-house club repair, loaner clubs, putting green, sand chip, as well as a chipping area all available for individuals to practice their skills. Beginning in 2013, the Bobcat Golf Range was taken under new management from the previous owners who opened up the range when it was later known as Southwest Golf Range. They have made minor changes to the facility since taking over from the previous owners. Not only was the main entrance to the facilities building inaccessible, but also individuals that want to participate and need the use of an ambulation aid such as a wheelchair, cane or walker would have little to no access. One modification that could be made to make the goods and services more accessible would be the addition of adaptive equipment for clients needing some assistance.
PRIORITY #3 ACCESS TO PUBLIC TOILET ROOMS:
Our location (Bobcat Golf Range) did not have a public toilet room inside their shop. There was a portable toilet located in the parking lot, although it was not accessible. There route to the toilet was the gravel parking lot and inaccessible to those who use wheel chairs or any other sort of ambulatory aid. The threshold of the portable toilet was more than 1/4 inch and there was no room within the portable toilet for those in a wheel chair to move i.e. a circle at least 60 inches in diameter. Also there were no grab bars, lavatories, soap or paper towel dispenser inside the portable toilet.

The controls for the cooler could be used without tight grasping, pinching or twisting of the wrist and the spout was less than 36in from the ground. There were no public telephones available, and there was also no fire alarm at the facility.
CONCLUSION OF SITE:
After reviewing the ADA checklist at the site it became very apparent that the site was inaccessible to people with disabilities. The shop at Bobcat Golf range had 2 steps to get to the entrance however there was no ramp. In addition, there were no accessible routes from the parking lot to the actual driving range, shop, or portable toilet. The portable toilet itself was also inaccessible due to a high threshold and lack of room inside to move when using a wheelchair, or ambulation aid.

Bobcat Golf Range would greatly benefit from an overhaul to create a more accessible environment. With the simple addition of ramps and paved paths the site would become more accessible. There is also a need for an accessible portable toilet. This Barrier study was very insightful, and opened our eyes to how a recreation site can be very limiting to those with disabilities. It was a good exercise that allowed us to get first hand exposure to inaccessible elements of a recreation facility as well as how they could possibly be
