Sun Tsu Quote Paper

...Quote Paper Whoever is first in the field and awaits the coming of the enemy, will be fresh for the fight; whoever is second in the field and has to hasten to battle will arrive exhausted. - Sun Tzu * Interpretation as it Pertained to Ancient Military Strategy In the Art of War, Sun Tzu begins his chapter Weak Points and Strong with this quote, and elaborates with: “Therefore the clever combatant imposes his will on the enemy, but does not allow the enemy’s will to be imposed on him. By holding out advantages to him, he can cause the enemy to approach of his own accord; or, by inflicting damage, he can make it impossible for the enemy to draw near. In ancient times, military movements were made by foot or horse and were excruciatingly slow, exhausting, and logistically intensive. Therefore, an army that arrived at the battlefield first had time to settle (rest), survey the surrounding area, and pick a strategic position. As the enemy army approached, the army that was established beforehand could choose to harass the enemy as they arrived or simply hold their advantageous position. When the enemy army finally arrived at the field, they would be at a disadvantage – exhausted from marching and attacking a fortified enemy. An effective general in ancient times either fought on his own terms or did not fight at all. This applies to modern day business managers as well. * Interpretation as it Relates to Modern Business Strategy First Mover Advantage ...

Paper Brigguetes

...How to Make Charcoal from Paper By Karren Doll Tolliver, eHow Contributor Homemade paper charcoal briquettes can be used in backyard grills.  Commercial charcoal for grilling food is expensive and can be harmful to the environment. However, industrious do-it-yourselves can make their own "charcoal" from newspaper. This reduces the amount of newspaper refuse as well as the amount of commercial charcoal consumed. In addition, no lighter fluid is needed with the homemade charcoal paper. Therefore, petroleum-based products are also conserved. Making your own charcoal takes only water and a washtub. The time spent forming the charcoal paper briquettes is negligible, although they need to dry for a couple of days in the sun. Things You'll Need • Washtub • Water • Old newspaper Instructions 1 Tear the old newspaper into pieces about the size of your hand or smaller. 2 Place all the torn newspaper pieces in the washtub. Cover with water and let sit for at least one hour. The newspaper will be ready when it is thoroughly saturated with water and is mushy to the touch. 3 Grab a large handful of the mushy newspaper. Form it into a ball about the size of a golf ball or ping pong ball, squeezing out as much water as you can. Repeat until all the mushy newspaper is in ball form. Discard the water. 4 Place the wet newspaper balls in the sun for at least two days. Do not let them get rained on. They must be completely dry and brittle. At this point they are ready for use in the same...

Ap English Reflection

...As you begin AP everything will seem overwhelming, and like you have no time for activities other than AP English. You will learn to discover yourself and how to write things about almost any type of literature, among many other things. At the end of the year you’ll go back, and read all your writing that you’ve saved throughout the year, and reflect upon it. So here’s what I’ve learned. I looked at my first piece of writing which was about a song “That’s the way I’ve Always Heard It Should Be” by Carly Simon, and my last work which was based on “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry. My first paper was a summary of the song with some comments in with it. I also did not know how to properly cite my sources and used verse numbers...

Reflective Essay: How Has Improved On My Writing

...race.The poet Sekou Sundiata, says. “All depends all depends on the skin, all depends on the skin you're living in”(21-22). He gave me a finer outlook on how society treats minorities and experiences they have to go through. Accused or wrongdoing,Not getting the same opportunities as others or simply just being verbally or mentally abused. It depends on what racial background you come from to determine how you will be treated in certain circumstances. Another text I found knowledgable for critically thinking, was the play “A Raisin in the Sun”. I was able to get a clear understanding of the family wanting greater dreams for themselves rather being stuck in a poor neighborhood dealing with poverty. Also why they were push not to pursue their dreams which was because of the color of their skin. This play being written in 1959,yet it’s 2017 and discrimination is still an issue. After reading texts like “Blink Your Eyes” and “A Raisin in the Sun”, I believe my writing has improved on discussing how many different texts all share similar meanings and...

...is the warm sun shining down or a cool breeze from the trees it relaxes me as a writing thus making my writing come to me easier. I’ve written several papers at the beach, local park and even my own backyard. On these outdoors papers I have received B’s, whereas indoor papers that have been turned in have been C’s. What I like to do when writing outside is to have a nice cold drink with me. I set myself up on a chair and depending on the days weather I sit in the sun or the shade. I am not one who sits and has their stuff scattered out in front, to me I feel that the vision of that crowds the mind and makes it difficult to concentrate. Writing with a pen and paper has also never suited me. The best way I do my writing is through a keyboard on a laptop or desktop. I guess you can say it’s due to the generation I grew up in and how much technology evolved since the early 1990’s. For me, there are many distractions for me when I am about to engage in my writing ritual. I know for a fact that my main distraction is defiantly my cell phone. My cell can lead to numerous distractions. Distraction number one is always my work. I work for an agency call Sage Supportive Living Services. I am a Community Mentor to adults across Ventura County and help with everyday activities. My job takes up a lot of my time and my participants really depend on not only myself but fellow Community Coaches and Mentors alike. The phone almost never fails to go off when I am writing papers. ...Problem: Crayon “graffiti” on 20th century Japanese prints by Munakata Shiko. The prints were mounted to screens, and the graffiti appeared at about 4 ft. from the ground—around the same height as a child. Unlike graffiti on a painted wall, however, crayon does not come off of printed paper quite as easily. Experiment: Mock-ups were created with Japanese paper, printed with black sumi ink, then colored over with both waxed-based and water soluble crayons. Possible solvents were chosen from the wax section on the Teas diagram and included petroleum ether, mineral spirits, toluene and xylene. These solvents were tested in three situations: Solvent on a swab A bath of water and solvent, followed by blotting of the stain Damp blotter surface with local application of moisture and solvent, followed by blotting of the stain Results: Solvents alone did not reduce crayon to a satisfactory level; mineral spirits created a transparent stain visible through the paper With the bath, it was impossible to control the amount of solvent used, but the overall result was positive Crayon was lifted locally, but also migrated along with solvents to form tidelines The ultimate solution was the use of a water-based treatment with toluene and xylene, such as that used in Experiment 2. For best results, Hsin-Chen suggested first manually reducing the graffiti with a kneaded eraser and scalpel. ...classes would involve graded assignments and homework. I assumed it would be full of listening to the teacher explain the ten page long syllabus that only comes in use during the first week of school, while I daydream about my summer, trying to fight my eyelids from closing. But the assumption I made about the typical first day of high school was completely wrong and it changed my outlook on high school for the rest of the year. It’s seven thirty in the morning, the sun is barely out and I’m already sweating through my t-shirt. Luckily I am not the only one, as I look around the classroom everyone looks miserable and fatigued. You could tell everyone wanted to be anywhere but at Anderson High School. The bell had just rung and our English teacher introduced himself and it seemed like it was going to be a fun year. Mr. Ger was dressed professional, wearing an Anderson golf team polo with khaki pants. I expected him to hand out a syllabus for the class to go over but instead he gave us the rubric for our first paper. He mentioned that the essay was due within the next week, which made the whole class simultaneously shrug. No one could believe that on the first day of high school we were...

...Italian merchant and explorer Marco Polo exclaimed, “The houses of the citizens are well built and elaborately finished, and the delight they take in decoration, in painting, and in architecture, leads them to spend in this way sums of money that would astonish you” (Sayre, 2012, pg 497). One of the oldest civilizations in history, China is for these reasons revered for its many achievements throughout history. Following Rome’s fall during the beginning of the Common Era, China emerged as the strongest nation in the world (Sayre, 2012, pg 226). China’s many dynasties each brought technological, cultural, and intellectual advances. Included among these are gunpowder, the compass, printing, paper, tea, acupuncture, spaghetti, the utilization of animals for agriculture, the abacus, and paper money (Ray, 2004). Prosperous and peaceful dynasties such as the Han Dynasty encouraged spans of intellectual and cultural advancement that lead to the creation of many of these inventions (Sayre, 2012, pg 215). These inventions and ideas gradually reached the rest of the world through trade and exploration. Though Chinese engaged in trade...
