...Styles of Leadership “The appropriateness of one’s leadership style can have an impact on many areas of the organization.” (Rue & Byars, 2010) We all know this is true and many of us have experienced it for ourselves. The type of leadership that is used effects the organization at one point or another, whether it is good or bad. In the process the morale is affected by whatever type of leadership is in play. Knowing that this could play out either way, it would beneficial to use an appropriate leadership style, because “morale can have a very significant impact on many variables.” (Rue & Byars, 2010) Some of those variables to consider would be turnover within the organization, attendance, and even poor mental health of the employees. I have only had less than a handful of different jobs to relate my experience of leadership to, but in most of those positions, I had more than one former leader and each possessed their own style. One example of the type of leadership I have experienced would be the autocratic leadership, which “centralizes power and enjoys giving orders.” (Rue & Byars, 2010) Marge was her name and autocratic leadership was her game, she abused her power and strongly seen her position as controlling everything, but handing the actual work down to us. This was not an effective style for her or the responsibilities we had. This got old quick and really discouraged our work team and it prevented any development to exceed her knowledge and abilities. Her way of...

...Ouch v. Jakubek An analysis on reporting of Sexual Harassment in the work place Strayer University This analysis is a look at the sexual harassment in the case of Ouch v. Jakubek and why the situation was not in compliance with the federal employment laws. The discussion will try to create a plan that will correct the issues in the future and bring the Jakubek back into compliance of the law under Title VII of the Civil Right Act. In the work environment there are many laws that help protect the employee rights in the work place. One of these laws is The Civil Rights Act of 1866, which prohibits employers from discriminating against individuals because of their race. Over the years the Civil Right Act has change to encompass not only race, but also prohibits employers from discriminating in terms of conditions of employment on the basis of color, national origin, religion and sex. [ (Kubasek, 2009, p. 627) ] In the court case of Ouch v. Jakubek we will look at the part of the Civil Right Act under Title VII on discrimination because of sex or in this case sexual harassment. Sexual harassment is “the unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature, which explicitly or implicitly makes submission a term or conditions of employment or...

...This assignment was designed put us, the student in a situation where we are placed in the supervisor position. In this assignment put the supervisor in a position of having to pick and choose what tasks to do themselves and what tasks should be delegated out after coming in and finding their basket full of tasks that need to be dealt with. When you obtain the position of supervisor, there is usually far too much for just you to do, therefore it is important to learn what to delegate and who to delegate it to. The most important tasks should be done by the supervisor but as far as things such as someone’s vacation hours and stocking merchandise for the store, those tasks should be delegated out to the assistant manager and to the store clerks. Being a supervisor means being in a role of leadership, logic, common sense, and decision making for yourself, the employees, and for the company. The “in Basket” debate and discussion gives us and our fellow classmates the opportunity to see if we can successfully delegate out certain tasks as a supervisor at a fictitious company. The discussion between me and fellow classmates was a great one and it appeared as though everyone agreed on everything accept for different incidents. The only two incidents where I came across disagreement were in regards to task number 3, and task number 4. These are the examples in which I will be using in this paper as far as disagreeing is concerned. Task number 3 is in regards to the mall hours changing...

...of sending and receiving messages with attached meanings" (190). At the Defense Energy Supply Center where I work, tremendous amounts of messages are sent and received daily, and depending on its availability, certain channels will be utilized. Due to the high volume of different messages, there is always the chance that some messages will be successful while others are not. An example of an unsuccessful message, where the source of the message was unable to effectively communicate the tasks that were to be completed, involved a voicemail left for me by my supervisor to inform my co- workers and I concerning a task that needed immediate attention. Unfortunatley I had to leave early that day prior to my supervisor leaving the voicemail message due to a family emergency, and had to be out of the office for two days. My supervisor was out...

...In the former organization I worked for, I was working for as a customer agent in company. During one of my shifts, I realized that I was spending too much between serving one customer and the next. This had started causing me frustration and it had also begun to affect the way that I was performing. One of the supervisors came to my workstation and observed the way that I was working. After about half an hour, my supervisor told me that I was doing things wrong and that was why I was taking a lot of time between shifting from one customer to the other. Instead of focusing on the reasons why my supervisor had given me some insight or in the way that my supervisor had called me aside to correct me, I chose to focus on the positive. I felt and...

...When a teacher is achieving professional growth, leaders will be able to determine whether to guide, model, and/ or inform based on their rate of achievement. Leaders and teachers are at the epicenter of learning. Students expect us as educators to guide them through the learning process “feeding’ them the best amount of education in order to perform and compete with the rest of the world. When we receive excellence from students, it will be known that achievement has been met. This essay demonstrates my personal philosophy of supervision. One of the most tangible assets within all leaders / supervisors is their ability to use effective interpersonal skills to mold and shape their school community. Interpersonal skills are the abilities that will allow a person to interact positively and work effectively with others. When developing these skills, a important goal for success is acquiring training and professional development that will make the skills stronger with one another. This development of interpersonal skills will allow various issues in the school community to be handled appropriately. These skills have many areas. The areas that seem to be most important are communication, listening, and directing/ delegating. More times than none, supervisors/ leaders...

...disadvantages of their current position * Examine team synergy and cohesiveness in order to determine overall happiness in the workplace Data Collection and Analysis Next, we determined our data collection methods. The most effective way to gather data was to choose a specific group of employees to collect data from and create a survey. Our experimental group consisted of all of the tellers at a specific U.S Bank location (there were a total of six tellers). Based on the survey results we interviewed tellers that indicated issues in their work environment. Part I- Survey: The tellers were asked to participate in a survey regarding their job satisfaction as it relates to career advancement opportunities, relationship with their supervisor, and their job design. Once the survey data was received, we identified problem areas in which we needed to focus. Part II-Interview: The tellers that...

...I was looking for a company where can be located near our house or rather near in our school. I even thougt of applying in our school's human resource department but I already had my education setting there so I declined the idea. Then, Dennis refered that we should try Bayan Academy. He said that it was a good company and they included the lunch hours and overtime hours. There were two building that was handled by Bayan Academy. One which the director, finance management, etc were staying. The second one where I worked which handled the training of call center, commercial cooking, and entrepreneurship. Most likely, I am expecting to have worked with trainees. When I first met the staff I was a bit nervous. I think they were kind checking us out. At first, I've waited for them to give a job. The office is just a small room where the staff works. There were other rooms or the trainings and seminars where held. They were nice and seems to have a good atmosphere because they seem to get along with each other. Unlike to the other building, the atmosphere was a bit heavy and serious. Of course, to fit in their environment I always remember to be respectful and polite. The first thing that fascinated me the most was on how fast they were typing. I heard the tapping of the keyboards like if it's going to break. I, for one were not that fast in typing. Maybe, I thought to myself I should practice my typing skills if I want to succeed in this field. I was a bit worried then that I would...

...Communication Missy Jones BCOM/275 08/18/12 Rebecca Baiges Communication Scenario’s First Scenario In my first scenario General Manager will be the sender and Supervisors will be the receiver. The message is about going seasonal for the Occasional Seasonal Employees. After the Supervisor and other Manager meeting we had earlier on that day, I had to try and decide how I would explain that we had to cut 20-25 of the Occasional Seasonal Employees by next week. The message that the General Manager sent us was far from pleasant and came off very rude and hateful like he didn’t care at all about what us Supervisor had to do. He didn’t give us any ideas on what to explain to them, his tone was way off, even though it was face-to-face communication he didn’t really make the eye contact and give us any type of direction as to what we would do! So after this meeting I had decided that I could come up with to explain the news, but say it in a completely different way than how it was said to me. We left confused and had how no type of direction or order as to what we were to do and how long we had to really figure this out. After this had happened, all the supervisors decided to get together and make a strategy as to what we were going to do and how the plain would work. We didn’t want the employees that we grown to know to walk away from the meeting feeling the same way we had felt. We wanted it to go a lot smoother as well as pleasant. I believe that we concurred...
