Recommendation

The continuation of implementing the delegating/free reign management would be the best avenue for Motown Productions at level of the company presented in the case. Since De Passe became president of Motown Productions in 1980, the company’s success increased due to the majority of productions becoming proving profitable. De Passe was proving to be successful in her initial goal of expanding Motown Productions while keeping a family morale and good working relationship with her staff. She had done this by a participatory style management. However, with continuing to move the company forward and expand even greater, it is time for De Passe to move into a delegating /free reign style management. The team has proven to be proficient and capable of being able to succeed without hand on supervision.
Delegating/Free Reign management will address the concerns the company is currently facing relating to: * Increased cost on executive salaries * Dependence on her direct involvement for staff’s project to seem important
With Motown Productions facing a financial burden on developing cost, reducing the highest expense, the salary paid to executive for the salaries would be beneficial. To lower salaries would mean to lower executives expectations and responsibilities. Having more persons self-managed would require less involvement from the executives. Also, under a free reign management teams will become gain a sense of independence. They will become less dependent on De Passe for them to feel their project is valuable.

Renowned producer, president, record and film Executive, Suzanne de Passé is credited as being the ingenious power source behind the rapid growth of the Motown industry headed by Berry Gordy. Gordy gave Suzanne free reign to develop the brand, which she was able to successfully diversify from a single music production to motion picture and film. The aforesaid did not successfully evolve without its distractions, as initially the task seemed overwhelming. The question in the mind-set of the detractors was, “how will de Passé be able to steer this acclaimed company into a new era of diversification and rapid growth without losing the Motown mystique?” The problem statement thus indicated that the current operational...

Smoozing

...Customized for: Isaac (illin@mednet.ucla.edu) THE INTRODUCTION Vault Guide to Schmoozing Customized for: Isaac (illin@mednet.ucla.edu) 2 © 2009 Vault.com, Inc. Introduction What does schmoozing sound like to you? Maybe it sounds smug, unctuous, oily, slimy. It sounds, quite frankly, like 'oozing.' Schmoozing is far from slimy, but 'oozing' actually isn’t a bad description of what a schmoozer does. A schmoozer slides into opportunities where none are apparent, developing friendships from the slightest of acquaintances. Through formless, oozy, schmoozy action, a schmoozer moves slowly but inexorably towards his or her goals. What is schmoozing? Schmoozing is noticing people, connecting with them, keeping in touch with them — and benefiting from relationships with them. Schmoozing is about connecting with people in a mutually productive and pleasurable way — a skill that has taken on new importance in our fragmented, harried, fiber-optic-laced world. Schmoozing is the development of a support system, a web of people you know who you can call, and who can call you, for your mutual benefit and enjoyment. Schmoozing is the art of semi-purposeful conversation: half chatter, half exploration. Schmoozing is neither project nor process. It's a way of life. How does schmoozing differ from networking? Conventional networking is the clammy science of collecting business cards ad infinitum, of cold-calling near strangers to grill them about possible openings in their places...
