Modern day living and stress go hand in hand. Often we take office stress home and return next day with even more. The solution to tackle it is right before us but we tend to ignore it or go for other easy options.
Exercise to reduce stress?
Exercising is one of the options that people who are stressed rarely think of. But studies have revealed that you are not only better equipped to battle stress if you exercise regularly but it also helps in keeping a check on the harm stress can do to your health.
Read more about causes, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of stress.
It will not be an exaggeration to say that regular exercise is the best stress-busting technique. The body releases endorphins, hormones that fight stress, when you exercise. Endorphins actually enter your body and have been found to enhance the way you feel at the time. You may feel elated when you have just finished working out and with this comes optimism.
At times of stress, you may want to recall how this felt because this can give you the power to overcome whatever problems that are impacting your life. While exercising you need to give your attention to the activity and this ensure there will be less chance of other worries occupying your thoughts. You are really putting your attention on something different by exercising.
Opt for activities that you will not find boring or taxing. There is little point embarking into something that becomes a chore and gives you something else to be anxious about.

Don't Sweat the Small Stuff

...Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff Abstract This book report is about Richard Carlson’s book, “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff…and it’s All Small Stuff”. The book explores how small the small things can cause stress to people, and gives advice on how to combat those small things. Carlson (1997) describes different ways to calm down during the hectic, day-to-day life, and how to remove stress by changing your perspective about things. Carlson offers 100 different sections of advice, organized in chapter formats. Carlson teaches the reader to look at life another way and gives relevant examples on how to do this to eliminate daily stress. Carlson gives such advice as to “live in the present moment” and “to make peace with imperfection”, among other stress reliving advice. Carlson’s main objective is to shift the reader’s paradigm on what is really important in the day-to-day life and how changing your thinking can greatly impact your life. The book “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff…and it’s all Small Stuff” by Richard Carlson was a very profound book to read. It was both eye-opening, and an effective reminder that negative or bad things that happen to us can’t always be taken too seriously. We go about our lives and react to things, treating things as a constant emergency and don’t stop to think what that reaction may cause. This is the biggest point that Carlson tries to makes in the book, in that how we relate to our problems...

Employee Safety and Health

...Discussion Questions: 16-8: Explain how to reduce the occurrence of unsafe acts on the part of your employees. * Proper employees screening and placement: identify the trait (such as visual skill) that might predict accidents on the job in question, and then screen candidates for this trait. For example, a test like the Employees Reliability Inventory (ERI) can help employers reduce acts at work. The ERI purportedly measures reliability dimensions such as emotional maturity conscientiousness safe job performance and courteous job performance. While the findings of one study were not definitive using the ERI in the selection process did seem to be associated with reductions in work related accidents. * Asking about a candidate’s workers compensation history (but it is unlawful to inquire (prior to hiring) about an applicant’s workers compensation injuries and claims under the Americans with disability Act). For example, you can usually ask whether an applicant has the ability to perform a job. * Safety training: instruct your employees (especially for new employees) in safe practices and procedures, warn them of potential hazards and work on developing a safety conscious attitude. For example, in Cai Mep International Terminal, employees are trained to observe acts and identify unsafe conditions. They know how to intervene when colleagues have unsafe acts. Employees can also repair or report when they detect anything that could harm the equipment, people and the environment...

Indian Ethos

...Discuss the cause and solutions to stress in modern organizations. How does the Indian philosophy differ from western thought on stress management? Definition of Stress Stress is an imprecise term. It is usually defined in terms of the internal and external conditions that create stressful situations, and the symptoms that people experience when they are stressed. McGrath (1976) proposed a definition based on the conditions necessary for stress. Causes of Stress Stressors can be divided into those that arise from within an individual (internal), and those that are attributable to the environment (external). Internal conflicts, non-specific fears, fears of inadequacy, and guilt feelings are examples of stressors that do not depend on the environment. Internal sources of stress can arise from an individual's perceptions of an environmental threat, even if no such danger actually exists. Environmental stressors are external conditions beyond an individual's control. Bhagat (1983) has reported that work performance can be seriously impaired by external stressors. There are many aspects of organizational life that can become external stressors. These include issues of structure, management's use of authority, monotony, a lack of opportunity for advancement, excessive responsibilities, ambiguous demands, value conflicts, and unrealistic work loads. A person's non-working life (e.g., family, friends, health, and financial situations) can also contain stressors that negatively...

Thinking Outside the Box

...Think about what you’re surrounded by. Automatically you would think about all the positive influences in your life, right? Now think about everywhere that you’ve been today. How many of those places have been shaped- ever so originally, like a box? Where the concrete walls are flat; the floor, is flat; and the door is a square. The same door that you walk into and even the windows are square! Where have you seen this place? Have you been here before? Is it: your room, bathroom, kitchen, garage, or possibly your basement? Or is it any place else that you have been? It’s funny how the world works this way. It’s funny how your main goal as a child was to think outside of the box, but your main conclusion on how a house or a home should look when drawn, was a box. And the perfect family of four was supposed to live in this box. Their life was literally drawn: boxed in. Many of us may actually have a family of four. Let me show you how you probably lived. Your mom and dad live in a box. They shared a perfectly symmetrical square bed, and a rectangular counter of two sinks. They had had square side tables and a dresser. The wooden floorboards that creaked, were also rectangular. Now for easier representation, let’s just say that both of your parents have similar jobs to each other. Each morning, they’d get up, and hit the snooze button on their rounded rectangular alarm clock. They’d pull out their drawers and pull out their squarely-folded, collared shirt, or walk open their...

Childhood Stress and Anxiety

...Task 2: Describe conditions that affect the behaviour of children AO2 Childhood Stress and Anxiety What is stress and anxiety? Both adults and children can suffer from stress and anxiety. It is important to remember that just because someone may be small or young it doesn’t mean that they don’t have the same feeling as adults do. Children can experience all sorts of strong feelings about what is happening to them. Therefore it is natural for some children to suffer from anxiety and stress. Young children will be experiencing a lot of new things in their lives such as leaving their parents for the first time, starting nursery and school, having to make new friends, being in new environments, learning to trust people who aren’t their parents, learning new skills such as speaking, walking and toilet training. These can all become stressful times for children. In some circumstances it can be made even worse by having parents who are arguing or going through a divorce. This can cause a lot of stress on the child and the parents may not even know the true affect that the circumstances are having on the child. Also a death of a family member or friend can cause a lot of stress on a child. When someone is stressed then this can also lead to having anxiety problems as well. This means that when someone is stressed they may have feelings of anxiety. Anxiety is defined as ‘apprehension without apparent cause’ this means that anxiety can occur even when there is no immediate threat...

Successful Interview Practice

...on their future. A panic wells up inside a person as they shake, sweat, lose their train of thought, or ramble uncontrollably. The stress that accompanies an interview is well placed however. From the moment a person walks through the interviewer’s office door, they are being evaluated on a number of things including the way they walk, their shoes, clothes, posture, and even physical attractiveness. And if being judged was not enough to make anyone panicky, the fact that the interview could potentially be a changing point in the interviewee’s life is enough to push anyone into a mild psychotic break. The good news is that with proper preparation and some tips and tricks from the industry, anyone can learn how to have a less stressful, more successful interview. What to avoid in an interview There are things that one can do or not do, say or not say in an interview that will ruin any chance of them getting the job. The list of interview blunders is extensive and a person cannot prepare for every single situation that may arise in an interview; however, there are a few key things that experts recommend avoiding at all costs. The list, according to Rayburn with interview.com, includes things such as showing no confidence or failing to dress appropriately. Nobody conducting an interview wants to witness a sloppy dressed person with their hands in their pockets and eyes on the floor walk into their office. This can, and probably will, kill the applicant’s chances of getting...

...quietly hissed at her as she kept her eyes trained at the front of the auditorium where the red clad Massachusetts squad had been seated. “Just going to have a friendly chat,” Jubilation said clearly annoyed at her boyfriend. “Ever think now is not the time?” he asked trying to make his tone sound less annoyed then he felt. Jubilee scowled ahead watching the other students file out of the room, “No time like the present,” she said. ……… Sarah looked over her shoulder, Reyes and Emma talking… A lot. Like almost sense she came off stage. Why did this make her feel sick? Not morning sickness sick, just worried sick. She turned around and mechanically began following her classmates out when Sean who was at the head of the group stopped and craned his head around in Emma’s direction. The queasy sensation doubled and for a second she wondered if she was just imagining beginning to sweat or if that was really happening. His expression was neutral, so maybe this had nothing to do with her. They were all teachers, teachers talk to one another, she tried to reason. He was talking in his normal voice to the class, giving instructions to go to the danger room and wait for an instructor, ok totally normal. Then he called her out, would he have said only for a moment if Reyes had said… No, well maybe… no way to tell, Banshee had always been far nicer of the two instructors. She forced a smile and let herself be led from the room. ...

Drug Analysis

...and the brain are packed with opioid receptors meant for endorphins, the body's own natural pain-killing substances produced in emergency moments of shock or injury. The body also produces this substance when an individual is engaging in physical activity. Endorphins are also produced when a person is under stress. Heroin mimics endorphins and binds rapidly with endorphin receptors, extending and magnifying their natural painkilling effect (NIDA 1986). The result is a surge of pleasurable sensation, or "rush." This rush is usually accompanied by a warm feeling and a sense of well-being. Humans are pleasure-seeking entities, and are naturally attracted to things that make them feel good. The effects are rapid but will depend on the method of ingestion. Intravenous injection provides the greatest intensity and the most rapid onset of euphoria (7 to 8 seconds). Intra-muscular injection produces a relatively slow onset (between 5 to 8 minutes). Sniffing or smoking usually provides peak effects within 10 to 15 minutes (NIDA research reports 1997). First-time or infrequent users often experience nausea and vomiting after injecting heroin intravenously. If they aren't turned off by feeling sick and continue using the drug, the user can experience both a "rush" and a "high." The rush has been described as similar to an orgasm, and only lasts for a minute or two. Like a sexual...

Walmart

...Walmart Walmart, one of the great stories in American history but, how does it compare to other retail stores like Target or K-mart, but, it also has a history of discrimination toward women and minorities. Mr. Sam Walton, a military man, a captain in World War II could not have imagined that his business would grow into one of most productive retail stores in modern history. Even today, with Walmarts, overseas, Walmart has cornered the retail market by storm. But, it also has a bad image, over its business deals against women and minorities and especially not giving equal pay for equal work, or denying workers the opportunities for advancements that are offered to white males in his business. I guess this wouldn’t be Mr. Walton, but his board of governors should be held accountable. Everyday people file law suits against the company, how long will the company last? Next, they have become so large that they can afford to move overseas, and hire workers that will work for less than the average American will, now, that will be exactly what was needed for the company,(globalization.) Walmart has stores in countries that the common American has never heard of. In the 1940’s, a young man named Sam Walton, of Newport, Arkansas, was using another stores business model, and that was, get products at a reasonable price, and they had to be American made. His idea was so simple anybody could have done it, but anyway, his idea was to look for bargain deals from suppliers and sell them...

Thesis on Laughter

...created based from the gathered information and facts in literature and studies. These studies will also the researchers and readers to understand their study more. This will give greater information about how laughter slows down aging. According to Adams (2005) Laughter is a healing activity. Laughter operates on at least three different levels. They are the biophysical, the biochemical, and the bioenergetic levels. At the biophysical level, laughter also moves lymph and oxygenates your organs. Laughter moves lymph fluid around your body simply by the convulsions you experience during the process of laughing; so it boosts immune system function and helps clear out old, dead waste products from organs and tissues. Remember that your lymph system doesn't have a separate pump; your body needs to move around to properly circulate lymph fluid so that your immune system can carry out its natural functions. Laughter is a great way to support that. Secondly, laughter increases oxygenation of your body at both the cellular and organ level. By laughing, you intake vast amounts of oxygen in huge gulps, and you repeat this process in a sort of temporary hyperventilation session. This is the natural result of laughter, and if you watch someone laugh, you will notice these biophysical effects. People would ask why oxygen is good for the body. Oxygen is one of the primary catalysts for biological energy in the human body. Remember, we breathe in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide, so oxygen...
