It’s 2017 and there are many horrible historic events that have occurred all over the world. But as time goes by, we humans have the ability move on, stay positive and learn from our mistakes. That is why the school systems teach young kids history classes from almost every year of their school career. There is one thing that seems to have been forgotten like it is history, the act of bullying. Many young kids are facing problems with bullying in school all over the United States. According to the article “Preventing Bullying With Emotional Intelligence” by Marc A. Brackett and Susan E. Rivers, the smartest way to end bullying is with the act of teaching young children about how our emotions work and their consequences. Marc A. Brackett and …show more content…
A child who feels anxious, jealous, hopeless, or alienated will have difficulty learning, making sound decisions, and building relationships. (Brackett and Rivers Paragraph 1) This are fantastic emotional words that can attract an audience such as a parent, uncle, grandma, sibling, ect. Anyone who cares about the health of a young one, anyone who has feelings and we all do. The authors Brackett and Rivers passionately wrote this article to convince parents that here in the United States, bullying is still a sick problem that a lot of teens and children are facing. The authors briefly explain many serious symptoms that children should not face at such young age. The targets are at a higher risk for depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. The perpetrators experience depression, anxiety, and hostility, and are prone to substance abuse and antisocial behavior. (Brackett and Rivers Paragraph 2) This is great information that most parents are willing to learn about. Any parent who has children that go to school in America should be aware of their children’s health at all time. The authors Brackett and Rivers have proven that their articles are well written, understandable and knowledgeable that makes a big difference in today’s world. The author Marc A. brackett is the founding Director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and Professor in the Child Study Center at Yale University. He focuses his research on the role of emotional intelligence in learning. (Yale Paragraph 1) Susan E. rivers is nothing less than the co-founder of Center for Emotional Inteligence at Yale University. Susan is a co-developer of RULER, an approach to teach adults and children the skills of emotional intelligence: recognizing, understanding, labeling, expressing, and regulating emotions. (Yale paragraph 2) This two great humanitarians have dedicated their life to support teens and children who can’t fight back. The two great minds have developed a program named Ruler. RULER infuses emotional intelligence into the fabric of a school through training for school leaders, educators and staff, students, and families, and has been shown to enhance wellbeing, academic performance, and school climate.
