Hemet is at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains. It is 87 miles southeast from Los Angeles and 86 miles northeast from San Diego. Perfectly placed with a small drive to beautiful forestry in one direction and the Pacific Ocean in the opposite direction. The weather is hot and dry in the summer and can get cold in the winter but generally sunny weather all year long. The average temperature is 65 degrees ("City of Hemet," 2013, table 6). The land is desert, dry and yet there is such beauty to the open land. According to the 2010 United States Census the population is 78,657. ("U.S. Census," 2010, table 1). Hemet has many mobile home parks and master plan retirement communities filled with an older population. Younger families are moving in and planting roots. Hemet is filling with community parks and schools, shopping centers, and aquatic centers for the young. Fishers is approximately 33.59 square miles (United States Census, 2014). The first person to settle in Fishers was William Conner; he started a trading post that connected Fishers to Anderson Indiana. Anderson Indiana was connected to Connersville Indiana by Indian trail. The Indian trail connected to a state road which continued north to Fort Wayne Indiana allowing easy access for the first wave of early settlers (Fishers Indiana, 2014). In 1872 Salathiel Fisher, a property owner in Hamilton County near the railroad, divided his land into town lots. In the late 1800’s it was not unusual for individuals that owned property near railroads to split up their land to start new communities (Fishers Indiana, 2014). The Fishers town lots became known as Fishers Switch, then later as Fishers Station, and eventually The Town of Fishers (Fishers Indiana, 2014). The population of Fishers started slow. ...Community Health Nursing SZT Task 2 My own perceptions about quality of life have affected my care for patients in end of life situations. I believe more of quality than quantity, several of my family members have died from cancer and secondary effects of treatment of the disease process. Three of my four grandparents have died from terminal cancer and it has taught me that the patient has to be an active part of the decision making for care. One of my grandfather’s chose not to receive any further treatment options other than palliative care after he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s nodular lymphoma with metastasis to his liver and lungs. He chose this option to enjoy the remaining amount of life with his twelve grandchildren and wife. The physicians gave him limited experimental options for treatment with no surgical resolve and he asked the important question for him at the time. Will it prolong my life at the same quality that I have now? The physicians told him that it would probably prolong his life but much of it would be in hospitals and with progressed illness due to the treatments. This led to his choice for palliative care and he lived an additional three years. We enjoyed all of the time we had together and we as a family supported his decision. My other grandfather chose to pursue all of the medical options available to treat his Hodgkin’s lymphoma that was caught in the very early stages. He enjoyed a very long life to the age of ninety-two and survived the disease...
