Take a Stand Essay: Hiring Millennials Almost 2 million Millennials just graduated from college and According to 4 Millennial Myths Smart Employers Should Ignore they are next in line to join the working world. Similar to the generations before them, Millennials will face ridicule by companies. Businesses are terrified of the possibility of failure with this young emerging work craving generation. But this is not the only fear, Millennial’s are left with the question whether or not they will not land the job. Employers are hiring based on the rumors they hear about the upcoming generation. Millennial’s can’t wait to quit, one of the rumors spread; the fact of the matter though is they are here to stay. “An analysis of U.S. Census…Millennials are actually more likely to stay at their jobs than Generation Xers were at the same age” (4 millennial myths smart employers should ignore, 2015). Thus proving that they are taking their jobs seriously and are perfectly capable of being in the work environment. “Millennials want more balance, but they also want more responsibility and to have a greater impact” (LeBeau, 2015). Additionally many employers are also convinced that the high tech generation is digitally addicted, rather than seeing them as having an appreciation for these advancements. Millennial’s tend to be the generation with the social media platform of communication. Although this statement is true many prefer to grow in the workplace through collaborative interaction rather than digital options according to 4 Millennial Myths Smart Employers Should Ignore. Moreover these aren’t the only rumors preventing the generation from striving in the work place. Employers think that they will have to hold their hands, when really the young professionals want to...

Learning Team Debate Paper

...Should Marijuana be Legalized? BCOM/275 November 26, 2012 Should marijuana be legalized? Throughout the years, the topic should marijuana be legalized is often heavily debated.  For many years the use of marijuana was forbidden and outlawed in the United States, but in more recent years marijuana seems to be becoming accepted. Scientist has found many useful applications for marijuana. Recently, here in the United States, many states have approved legislation for marijuana for medical purposes. Most recently, two states Colorado and Washington have passed referendums that will allow people over the age of 21 recreational use of marijuana without the penalty of a criminal offense. These two states will oversee the use of marijuana for its constituents similar to how alcohol is controlled. Whereas, the government at the state level in Colorado and Washington is in favor for the legalization and passed legislation for the legalization of marijuana, the federal government has not. This causes legal, moral, and ethical issues and begs that questions; should marijuana be legalized? Pros of Legalization One benefit of the legalization of marijuana would be the ability for state and local governments to tax the legal production and sale of it. Currently, because marijuana is illegal the sale of it is not taxed so the local, state, and federal governments do not reap any of the benefits of this “$10.5 billion dollar industry” (Miron, 2005, p.4). In a report written by Jeffrey A....

Startegic Human Resource Management: Employee Resourcing

...value’. Stated by Gratton (2000), ‘The new sources of sustainable competitive advantage available to organisations have people at the centre – their creativity and talent, their inspirations and hopes, their dreams and excitement. The companies that flourish in this decade will do so because they are able to provide meaning and purpose, a context and frame that encourages individual potential to flourish and grow’. Stone (2013) mentioned that HRM is either part of the problem or part of the solution in gaining the productive contribution of people. Leading companies such as Blackmores, Coca-Cola Amatil, Google, General Electric, Johnson & Johnson and Microsoft recognise that human capital is their most important resource as well as take action to maximise it by: focusing on selecting, developing and rewarding top talent; encouraging open communication, teamwork and collaboration; and...

...original creator or licensee. Saylor URL: http://www.saylor.org/books Saylor.org 1 Preface Competing books are focused on the academic part of HRM, which is necessary in a university or college setting. However, the goal with this book is not only to provide the necessary academic background information but also to present the material with a practitioner’s focus on both large and small businesses. While the writing style is clear and focused, we don’t feel jargon and ten-dollar words are necessary to making a good textbook. Clear and concise language makes the book interesting and understandable (not to mention more fun to read) to the future HRM professional and manager alike. It is highly likely that anyone in business will have to take on an HRM role at some point in their careers. For example, should you decide to start your own business, many of the topics discussed will apply to your business. This is the goal of this book; it is useful enough for the HRM professional, but the information presented is also applicable to managers, supervisors, and entrepreneurs. Besides these differences, other key differences include the following:   This book utilizes a technology focus and shows how HRM activities can be leveraged using technology. We have also included a chapter on communication and information about motivational theories. Since communication is a key component of HRM, it makes sense to include it as a full chapter in this book. Human motivation is one......

...WRITING REFERENCES Citi: Oil Could Plunge to $20, and This Might Be 'the End of OPEC' "It looks exceedingly unlikely for OPEC to return to its old way of doing business," Morse wrote. Despite global declines in spending that have driven up oil prices in recent weeks, oil production in the U.S. is still rising, wrote Edward Morse, Citigroup's global head of commodity research. Brazil and Russia are pumping oil at record levels, and Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran have been fighting to maintain their market share by cutting prices to Asia. The market is oversupplied, and storage tanks are topping out. A pullback in production isn't likely until the third quarter, Morse said Vets fight to save hero dog who tried to shield owner from house fire "She's doing OK.
