Consumer Behavior in the Asian Market

...If Saab becomes Chinese should it rename? • Vladimir Djurovic, president at Labbrand, suggests the name might not work well in China. “We have already found in previous research projects on car brand names, that names with this term were not a favourite choice in China because they are a little too spiritual”. • Given both Labbrand’s expertise and MG’s experience, the acquisition might be the perfect opportunity for repositioning the Saab brand, especially if the product line were to change. However this move is not risk-free. • Saab’s name “萨博” is widely recognized by the Chinese audience, so renaming might mean losing loyal customers. To solve this Vladimir Djurovic, president of Labbrand, believes that “instead of renaming, Saab could consider developing a better tagline to fit the Chinese market and make the brand more vivid in the imagination of Chinese consumers”. Chivas Regal Trademark Case • Chivas Brothers failed to establish that the spirits brand was “well-known” in China before the registration of Chivas Regal clothing in 2003, which would have been grounds to deny the application. Before the 2003 registration by the Wenzhou squatter, Chivas Brothers (the brand owner) had registered the marks in a number of Classes, including 33, which includes alcoholic beverages. However, just because a brand owner registers the mark in one Class this does not automatically protect against other registrants for different goods/services or for products in other Classes...

...CHAPTER 21 AIS DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIES SUGGESTED ANSWERS TO DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 21.1 What is the accountant’s role in the computer acquisition process? Should the accountant play an active role, or should all the work be left to computer experts? In what aspects of computer acquisition might an accountant provide a useful contribution? The accountant is likely to be: • A major user of the computer output • Responsible for internal controls over data processing in the organization • An expert in cost estimation and analysis • A designer of many of the systems that the computer is intended to supplant. With these responsibilities, the accountant must be actively involved in the computer acquisition process. The accountant's role is probably best carried out by participating on a team or committee together with computer experts, systems analysts, production personnel, engineers, managers, and others whose functions are closely related to the information systems activity. 21.2 In a Midwest city of 45,000, a computer was purchased and in-house programmers began developing programs. Four years later, only one incomplete and poorly functioning application had been developed, none of software met users’ minimum requirements, and the hardware and the software frequently failed. Why do you think the city was unable to produce quality, workable software? Would the city have been better off purchasing software? Could the city have found software that met...

Once you “hardwire” the book’s proven tactics into your company, the dramatic gains will be sustained over time, even as individual leaders come and go. Not only does Quint Studer tell you how to hardwire these behaviors—and make the task seem remarkably “doable”—he explains how you’ll know when you’ve reached this goal. Besides the book’s introduction, this blad includes sections on managing up and reducing leadership variance. Other subjects covered in the complete book include selecting and retaining talent, rounding for outcomes, improving quality, efficiency, and service, and increasing market share, just to name a few. Action steps make the tactics easy to implement, and colorful examples bring them to life.
