Taylor Alison Swift (born December 13, 1989) is an American singer-songwriter and actress. Raised in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee, at the age of 14 to pursue a career in country music. She signed with the independent label Big Machine Records and became the youngest songwriter ever hired by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house. The release of Swift's self-titled debut album in 2006 established her as a country music star. Her third single, "Our Song," made her the youngest person to single-handedly write and perform a number-one song on the Hot Country Songs chart. She received a Best New Artist nomination at the 2008 Grammy Awards.

Swift's second album, Fearless, was released in 2008. Buoyed by the pop crossover success of the singles "Love Story" and "You Belong with Me," Fearless became the best-selling album of 2009 in the United States. The album won four Grammy Awards, making Swift the youngest ever Album of the Year winner. Swift's third and fourth albums, 2010's Speak Now and 2012's Red, both sold more than one million copies within the first week of their U.S release. Speak Now's "Mean" won two Grammy Awards, while Red's singles "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and "I Knew You Were Trouble" were worldwide hits. Swift's fifth album, the pop-focused 1989, was released in 2014 and sold more copies in its opening week than any album in the previous 12 years, making Swift the first and only act to have three albums sell more than one million copies in the opening release week. The singles "Shake It Off", "Blank Space", and "Bad Blood" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Swift is known for narrative songs about her personal experiences. As a songwriter, she has been honored by the Nashville Songwriters Association and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Swift's other achievements include seven Grammy Awards, 22

...Reading, Pennsylvania was a little girl with big hopes and dreams. Taylor Swift was a girl who spent most of her childhood singing and writing songs. At the age of nine Taylor turned her attention to musical theatre and performed in Berks Youth Theatre Academy productions of Grease and Annie. She traveled regularly to Broadway, New York for vocal and acting lessons. However after a few years of auditioning in New York and not getting anything she became interested in country music. At the age of twelve, Swift was shown by a computer repairman how to play three chords on a guitar, inspiring her to write her first song “Lucky You.” Taylor said “People haven’t always been there for me but music always has.” At the age of fourteen Taylor moved to Nashville and was offered a record deal with RCA records. Swift was ready at the age of fifteen to release an album with her own materials but the company wanted to wait until she was eighteen but she knew she was ready to launch her career with her own material, so she left that record company. At a café in Nashville, Swift caught the attention of Scott Borchetta, a DreamWorks records executive who was preparing to form his own independent record label, Big Machine records. Taylor was one of his new labels first signings. Since then she has written over 200 songs which all written about her true experience and feelings. In 2006 she released her first album called “Taylor Swift.” She received positive reviews from the music critics. And by the...

It is extremely rare to find someone with several musical talents as well as an exceptional songwriting gift. From growing up on a Christmas tree farm in Pennsylvania to becoming one of the world’s most famous country singers, Taylor Swift has impacted the lives of many different types of people around the globe. With her parents Scott and Andrea, as well as her younger brother Austin, Swift grew up in the small Pennsylvanian town of Wyomissing. Before her interest in country music, Swift participated in a few children’s musical theater productions (Danielsen 1). One of her mentors noticed her special talent and suggested that Swift should consider pursuing a music career. Swift took up the suggestion and started getting involved with local competitions and open-mike gigs. By the age of 12, Swift began to learn the guitar on her own as well as beginning to write some of her own songs. Swift’s parents recognized Taylor’s passion for country music and decided to bring their daughter to Nashville to perform at small gigs, hoping to attract someone’s attention. Fortunately record label holder Scott Borchetta was hooked when he saw Swift perform one night at the Bluebird Cafe. At the age of 15, Taylor Swift was signed to Borchetta’s Big Machine Records . ... Figure 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMt6TFO0zn4 Figure 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMt6TFO0zn4 The advertisement starts out right away with the popular music artist Taylor Swift as the only person in the entire commercial. The company makes a big emphasis on this and even puts her name in the commercial underneath the company name, seen in Figure 1, as if to highlight the fact that she’s in the commercial and wearing their product, even though it’s very clear who it is to the majority of the population. Cover Girl chose Taylor Swift to be the star of their commercial for a few reasons. They are targeting teenage girls, and Taylor is in that age range herself. She’s also extremely successful in her career and is an attractive young woman that a lot of girls wish they could look like or just be. By using Taylor Swift when she has all these qualities, it sends out a message to the watchers that if you use their product, you’ll be able to be like Taylor Swift. Figure 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMt6TFO0zn4 Figure 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMt6TFO0zn4 Another way this commercial really targets women is not only by having a celebrity in it, but by having that celebrity dress in glamorous clothes. In Figure 2 and Figure 3 one can see the two outfits Taylor wore throughout the entire commercial. This is a make-up commercial, so it doesn’t...

Tim Mcgraw

...------------------------------------------------- Top of Form March 02, 2013 Tim McGraw Sees 'Two Lanes of Freedom' by Mary Morningstar Country star Tim McGraw spent the past few years battling in court to end his career-long relationship with Curb Records.  McGraw is finally on a new record label with a new CD. “Two Lanes of Freedom” is McGraw’s debut album for the Nashville independent label Big Machine Records.  He shares the Big Machine roster with such superstars as Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts and Trisha Yearwood. McGraw was under contract with Curb Records for 20 years.  Following the release of his final album for Curb, “Emotional Traffic,” he signed with Big Machine and soon found himself being sued by his old label for breach of contract.  A Nashville judge ruled in McGraw’s favor in 2012. Curb sent the case to the Tennessee Supreme Court.  Two weeks after the release of “Two Lanes of Freedom,” the court signed an order denying Curb’s appeal. McGraw took a new approach in the recording studio that allowed him to make what he describes as “a pivotal album” in his career. “What I wanted to do with the record is I wanted to go in, because I’d worked with every musician on this record individually and some together as a group, but as a whole these guys had never all worked together at one time," he said. "I thought that was interesting to start with.  But, I also wanted to go in and do about two weeks straight and do 10 to 14 hours a day, start in the morning and...

March 9th

...Last year on my 22nd birthday I got the best surprise in one of my favorite cities San Francisco, California. It all started with waking up to Taylor Swift’s song “I’m feeling 22” and happily dancing and singing along to the music. The weekend was already special because my younger sister was visiting from the Bay area and my Grandmother and Grandfather were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. My sister Sarah, my longtime boyfriend TJ and I started off our Sunday adventure around 7 o’clock in the morning, right after we got Starbucks of course. We were making our way from Antelope, which is in the Greater Sacramento area, to San Francisco to enjoy a day of adventuring. The journey there was full of laughter and music, along with site seeing all the beautiful scenery around. I am a frequent visitor to the City so we decided to go to the beach where we always do, right off of Ocean Beach by the Cliff House restaurant. Like we had done many times before we hiked down the cliff and walked around the old building foundations. The old structure filled with water so we walk on the cement beams around and across careful not to fall in the water with all the seagulls and seaweed. So that part is always fun and almost dangerous at the same time! We finally make our way across after helping one another on the more difficult spots but still having a great time. The next part of our journey was to a cave that ended at the ocean with rocks and waves. In the middle of the cave there...

The Controversy Between Taylor Swift And Kanye West

...unfortunately, the bias in the news often goes undetected. Good morning/afternoon Mrs Van Wyk and fellow students. I'm sure most people in this room would have some knowledge of the feud between Taylor Swift and Kanye West after the latter released his new single Famous, which included lyrics that were seen as offensive to the former. Today, I will be analysing two online news articles on this topic, both from the Sydney Morning Herald, to prove that the media's portrayal of people and issues are not necessarily balanced or accurate. The first of the two supports Kanye West, while the second...

Interpret Meanings Behind Shake It Off Lyrics by Taylor Swift

...Amanda Medina AMST101 QUIZ #1 : Popular Music “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift I choose this song because firstly, this song is one of the most popular song lately in America since the day it was released it was the #1 hit song on Billboard. For me personally, this song has a very catchy melody, where at first the band started of with an up-beat drum which could create a feelings of excitement. There are also a couple of repetition on the hook, 'Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake I shake it off, I shake it off Heart-breakers gonna break, break, break, break, break And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake I shake it off, I shake it off So I think these repetition makes it easier for listeners to remember the song words, also the melody. Additionally, this song talks about a girl who’s brave, confident, happy and she doesn’t care about what people thinks on her. If we see from the lyrics, Taylor uses a different kinds of words in every new chorus which makes the song interesting and not boring. In some part of the song, she sings the melody into a slower and softer sound to show the feelings where she’s chill and just go with the flow of music she listens to, But I keep cruising..
Can't stop, won't stop moving.. It's like I got this music…
In my mind, saying, "It's gonna be alright...
