Everyone will have their own ideas and beliefs as to whether alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana are even close to comparison with each other. Moderate use of marijuana is now worse than alcohol or tobacco. Leslie Iversen, PhD, states, “Cannabis is a safer drug than aspirin and can be used long-term without serious side effects (Iversen, PhD, 2012). Drinking and driving kill people everyday but there is not much heard about driving high. Impairment from smoking marijuana is different than alcohol impairment. This is not saying that people should drive high, because the effects of impairment are still very detrimental. Yes it will be harder to detect someone driving high versus alcohol breath tests. The law would be able to organize special tests though for judging people’s impairment.
If marijuana were to be legalized publicly then crime rates may actually decrease instead of increase because people will not be so easy to commit theft for getting the drug. Judgment is not the same when a person is high but the judgment and reaction to someone drunk can be even worse with some people. Studies and groups like to discuss how marijuana is a gateway drug. The problem with this theory is with how the tests are conducted. Just because someone uses marijuana today does not mean they will be using cocaine tomorrow. Smoking a cigarette, drinking a beer, and smoking marijuana are fairly similar when one would start speaking of health risks. The difference in them being though that marijuana has not been legalized long enough in enough places for proper and un-biased testing to be conducted as it has been with tobacco and alcohol. When placed on a chart and comparing dependence, intoxication, withdrawal and several more one would see that in actuality with some comparisons caffeine can be worst than marijuana.

Bcom/275 Debate Paper Marijuana Legalization

...Should medical marijuana be legalized nationwide? Team A BCOM/275 October 9, 2011 UoP Instructor Should medical marijuana be legalized nationwide? The use of marijuana for the treatment of patients with serious health conditions is currently one of the top contentious debate topics in the United States. Until its prohibition in 1937, marijuana was one the top three most prescribed medicines in the United States. To date, 13 states have statutory laws legalizing medical marijuana; however, it is not legal at the federal level. Several pros and cons exist to support whether medical marijuana should be or not be legalized nationwide. The primary arguments in debating the pros and cons of legalizing medical marijuana nationwide focus primarily on medical benefits, disease prevention, medical risk, substance abuse, and legal issues. Many scientific professionals and patients claim medical marijuana provides some sort of medical benefits. Although it has been a contentious battle between the states and federal governments to legalize or not medical marijuana nationwide, there are three important points to take under consideration; first, marijuana is a potent analgesic in patients with chronic pain. Second, it is a strong anti-emetic for patients receiving cancer chemotherapy treatment. Third and most important, medical marijuana should be legal, so patients do not have to break the law to receive treatment. Across the nation state organizations...

Legalization of Marijuana in U.S.

...Learning Team Debate Paper Outline June 5, 2011 BCOM/275 I Introduction • Should the U.S. legalize marijuana? • The U.S. legalization of marijuana has been a controversial subject for many years. Proponents of legalization cite many benefits including, what they claim to be substantial increases in tax revenue, reduction in crime, and widespread medical benefits. Opponents argue that marijuana is a harmful drug that increases crime, causes more problems with health than it benefits, and would cost taxpayers more than the revenue it would bring in. The Game Changer in Medicine and Society

...Morgan Gadley 16 September 2014 English 1102 Zhang Marijuana, The Game Changer In Medicine and Society Is marijuana as corrupt as society makes it out to be? Growing up, everyone is told that, “Drugs are bad for you,” time and time again. Now as a kid you don’t really appreciate the reasoning behind it, but you listen to your authority figure heedlessly. I remember being told this my entire life and even to this very day. But as I got older I realized that people would still use the drugs even though it’s unlawful. I could never comprehend why someone would go against the law and endanger their life just to use drugs? But as I got older I began to realize that these people truly didn’t do any harm to the public or to themselves by smoking marijuana. Many doctors and health specialist are advocates for consumers to smoke marijuana just because of its health benefits. Marijuana is the third most popular recreational drug in America other than alcohol and tobacco, but marijuana is the only one that can benefit you the most out of the three. Alcohol and tobacco are drugs that many people have died from and harms the body as time goes by. Other medication that doctors prescribe to their patients is painkillers, and they can really kill you. According to McKnight et al. (2014), “There were 14,800 deaths from opiate overdose in 2008, according to the Center for Disease Control, and none from marijuana” (p. 4). Pain is the anxiety of disease, the symptom that reveals that...

Ethical Issues Regarding the Use of Performance Enhancing Drugs in Sports

...Ethical issues regarding the use of Performance Enhancing Drugs in Sports In the history of 20th century sports, specifically in the post World War 2 era, there has been an ever increasing use of performance enhancing drugs in all avenues of sport. Sports have become money making machine for both athletes and big business and the “win at all costs” attitude which has permeated itself into all aspects of professional and college level athletics. Winners make money, losers don’t. The temptation of fame, notoriety and million dollar contracts in all venues of sport is a lure for many athletes. Elite professional athletes are worshiped in today’s society. This paper will elaborate on the use of performance enhancing drugs in the sporting world and the associated sports ethical issues. It is a majority belief in all sporting circles that the “true” spirit of sportsmanship does not allow any aspect of performance enhancing drugs. There are several arguments both in favor and against the use of performance enhancing drugs which will be presented and discussed in this paper. While addressing this ethical issue, we need to define the term ethics. Ethics can be defined as the socially accepted norms and values. These norms and values are varied from society to society and are based on culture and tradition. Ethics also could be defined as the unsaid, un-written and understood laws that prevail in a society. Ethics also cover what is right and what is wrong in society and teaches...

...MANAGEMENT 12E KREITNER & CASSIDY INTERACTIVE ANNOTATIONS Annotation 1a It’s a Small World Question: How does this situation illustrate the pros and cons of economic globalization? Economic globalization provides manufacturers with access to parts from the around the world. With increased specialization comes increased efficiency and lower prices. However, this also leads to a higher level of dependence on a complex supply chain. When Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull volcano erupted in April 2010 air traffic across Europe came to a standstill. This brought the supply chain to a halt as parts and supplies transported by plane were left sitting on the runway. The economic impact included costly manufacturing plant shutdowns and sales delays. But, in fact, households and economies have much in common. A household faces many decisions. It must decide which members of the household do which tasks and what each member gets in return: Who cooks dinner? Who does the laundry? Who gets the extra dessert at dinner? Who gets to choose what TV show to watch? In short, the household must allocate its scarce resources among its various members, taking into account each member’s abilities, efforts, and desires. Like a household, a society faces many decisions. A society must decide what jobs will be done and who will do them. It needs some people to grow food, other people to make clothing, and still others to design computer software.
