Nova Biomedical USA
Final Draft You have asked me to research and analyze a company that we could potentially enter into a mutually beneficial business agreement with. According to research I have gathered from several different sources Nova Biomedical USA would be an excellent candidate. We have the potential to meet all of their staffing needs, just as they have the ability to become a profitable contract for us. Nova Biomedical develops, manufactures and sells advanced technology blood testing analyzers based on electrochemical and optical measuring techniques. They employ over 1,000 people and have sales and service subsidiaries in 7 countries and distributors in over 90 other countries. Nova has manufacturing facilities in Waltham and Billerica, Massachusetts, as well as Taipei, Taiwan (Unknown, 2012) “Nova is one of the 25 largest in vitro diagnostic companies in the world and the largest privately owned in vitro diagnostic company in the United States." (Unknown, 2012) As the above quote from Nova's website states they are a large company and are involved in a global industry. This is one reason Nova is a good fit for Kelly Services. In the past decade Nova had been through some trying times and a major change. They have been through two significant intellectual property lawsuits involving patents and trade secrets (Salzman, 2013). Though they came out victorious, these court battles were expensive and led to the layoff of sixty employees, a total of eight percent of their total workforce in 2008. Now that the majority of the legal battles are over the company is in the process of recouping the money lost and are soon going to be in need of candidates to fill the positions that were laid off in early years.

We at Kelly Services are making this offer because we know it’s hard for growing companies to process job applicants and continue recruiting top talent while controlling expenses. Adapting the hiring process to meet the needs of a large company requires a special approach. Recruiting efforts must be coordinated to avoid wasted endeavors. Outsourcing projects is a consideration to limit rising recruiting cost. To add complexity, offering a broad spectrum of products and services on a global scale requires workers with various skill sets in multiple countries around the world. It is necessary to fill specific positions, while juggling the need to maintain equal opportunities for individuals with diverse backgrounds. Geographic and cultural barriers can make it hard to source qualified workers. Kelly Services understands the issues facing Google and knows the difficulties involved in managing human resources in a large organization without an experienced partner. That is why we are offering our proven expertise, which has won multiple awards from successful companies such as Chrysler, Ford, Intel,...

...Overview of Organization The organization that will be the topic of discussion of my course project is Verizon Communications. Verizon Communications headquartered in New York, is a global leader in delivering broadband and other wireless and wireline communications services to consumer, business, government and customers and employees 75,000 nationwide. The company operates more than 1900 retail stores and kiosks locations. There are two major parts of the business; wireless and wireline. Verizon began a merger of the two as of the end of 2012. The driving forces behind such change were to simply processes and create consistency among the company. The company felt that two sets of each the departments to accommodate both sides of the business were counterproductive. The objective of the transformation of the wireless and wireline was to streamline the company’s functions across the board while cutting unnecessary cost. The transformation began December of 2012 and is still I progress. For starters overlapping departments have begun to experience downsizing. This means that since we had a collections department on the wireless side of the business along with the wireline side of the business one of the groups was eliminated. The remaining group was then cross trained on the opposing side of the business in order to support both. As it stands employees have not been laid off but many have been placed in situations causing them to choose between relocating across...

...Cross-cultural Communication and Multicultural Team Performance: A German and American Comparison by Steven W. Congden University of Hartford, U.S.A. Alexei V. Matveev College of Staten Island – CUNY, U.S.A David E. Desplaces College of Charleston, U.S.A. This study builds on work by Matveev & Nelson (2004) which investigated the relationship between cross-cultural communication competence and multicultural team performance using American and Russian managers. This study examines the impact of national culture on German and American subjects. While a relationship between cross-cultural communication competence and multicultural team performance was found, it did not differ by overall national culture. Of the four dimensions of cross-cultural communication competence, only Cultural Empathy was found to be significantly different between Germans and Americans. No differences were found for the dimensions of Interpersonal Skills, Team Effectiveness, and Cultural Uncertainty. 1. Introduction Worldwide intercultural cooperation drives corporate growth and development across the globe resulting in a heightened demand for a qualified but diverse workforce. researchers have documented that the successful performance of multicultural teams is a vital and contributing factor to organizational success (Jackson, may, & Whitney, 1995; Snow, Snell, davison, & hambrick, 1996; Wheelan & hochberger, 1996). the increased reliance on multicultural teams has renewed interest in understanding and developing...

...Available at: http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/cross_fac/globalpeople/resourcebank/researchpapers Achieving Mutual Understanding for Effective Intercultural Management Helen Spencer-Oatey Centre for Applied Linguistics, University of Warwick WORKING PAPER Abstract Purpose – To introduce an approach to managing intercultural communication that is effective for achieving mutual understanding among people in culturally complex situations. Design/methodology/approach – The paper takes a ‘meaning negotiation’ approach to the intercultural communication process. It argues against a generalised ‘differences/adaptation’ approach, and maintains that people need to interact in contextually sensitive ways. Findings – The paper outlines a set of strategies that can help people in intercultural interaction contexts negotiate and agree the messages they are trying to convey. It draws them together into a conceptual framework of intercultural communication competencies. Research limitations/implications – The paper only focuses on the communication of messages, not the use of language to manage relationships. It also does not attempt to suggest practical techniques for helping managers and their staff develop competence in using the strategies. Practical implications – Since mutual understanding is achieved through meaning negotiation, it is important for managers and their staff to know how this takes place and to develop a communication strategy for implementing it. Social implications...

Test-Taking Strategies in the Kpg Reading Test: Instrument Construction & Investigation Results

...Stathopoulou and Doriana Nikaki National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Abstract: This paper reports on results of one aspect of a larger research project carried out at the Research Centre in English Language Teaching, Testing and Assessment (RCEL), University of Athens. The overall aim of the project is to investigate the test-taking strategies used by Greek users of English when performing the activities of the Greek State Language Exams, known as Kratiko Pistopiitiko Glossomathias (KPG) and whether these can be successfully taught. The aim of this paper is twofold. It firstly aims at discussing findings regarding the testtaking strategies candidates claim to use when responding to the KPG reading tasks and, secondly, at presenting the research instrument used for such an investigation. The research instrument, which is a closedresponse questionnaire, has been designed at the RCEL and administered to candidates who sat for the KPG examination at the November 2008 administration. The findings, which actually demystify the way candidates deal with the reading activities, may prove useful not only for teachers who prepare students for the KPG exam and for the actual candidates but also for syllabus and materials designers. 1. Harvard Referencing

...Harvard referencing: a guide for SoM students Introduction Academic work demands that you consider the work of other writers and researchers. To use their work without acknowledgement is to steal the ideas of other people and is called plagiarism. You should acknowledge the sources which have informed your work by citing them in the text of your work, and referencing them at the end of your essay, project report, dissertation or thesis. Otherwise, you run the risk of being accused of academic misconduct. There are several widely used methods for writing references. The School of Management uses the Harvard system. If you do not use this method properly you will lose marks. What sources of information should I be reading? Before you use any document, you should consider the quality of the information it provides. Articles published in refereed academic journals are the most authoritative, because they have been through a thorough checking process known as peer review. Books may not have been checked so rigorously by their publishers. Articles in newspapers and trade magazines are not checked as carefully as those in refereed academic journals so may not be as reliable. And information found on the Internet needs to be treated with caution, as anyone can put material there, accurate or otherwise! How do I put a citation in my text? To avoid being accused of plagiarism, you need to put a citation in the text you are writing whenever you mention another person’s work. This...
