Computer games are important, it all starts with being intrigued by a specific feature in a game, asking yourself why that feature has been implemented and before you know it you have developed a keen interest in creation - or at least thats how it happened in my case. Not only do I love to create, but I also understand the concept of teamwork and enjoy working in a team. I discovered this upon volunteering as a teaching assistant at a kids class at a kickboxing club. We work together to help teach the younger martial artists their syllabus in order to make sure they pass their belt gradings. I have done my research on the course im applying for and I have discovered that we will be working together with all the different departments complimenting …show more content…
We worked as a team to come up with a t-shirt idea for local businesses to sell wholesale and decided to utilize an upcoming school show in order to harness the excitement from that and use it to promote our product. I feel that this also shows a great deal about teamwork and how I am able to be assigned a role within a team(In this case in production) and am able to work together with different parts of a team such as finance and sales and marketing in order to strengthen the final result. This will carry over to game development as I feel that although I have done this in the eyes of business the same concept can be applied to a team consisting of game developers, game artists and game production managers and I know we will working together and I feel that this makes me a strong candidate because this concept of teamwork is relevant to game development.
I have done a lot of programming within school in visual basic and have always felt that I excelled at it because I simply love to work out problems. I also know a bit of Python that I have played with in my spare time and I have dabbled into C++ and know the basic syntax. I know that we will be primarily using C++ in the course im applying for so I will be trying to get familiar with the language this

These role-playing games with simulated violence are diverting because they can cause healthy bonds between two (or more) people in the community, they show school is a safe place, and they develop and require kids to learn and practice skills that are extremely significant to the real world. League of Legends

...MOBA is a genre of games that are strictly PvP or player vs. player which has strategic and teamwork based elements. MOBAs usually take place in an enclosed map or arena where teams battle for supremacy over objectives using an array of characters. Now enough about what is a MOBA. Let's talk about League of Legends. Body First I will explain the core concepts of a standard game of League of Legends. First you queue into matchmaking and once a game is found a lobby is put together in which the players are split into two teams of five and put into Champion Select where, as described, players start to select "Champions". "Champions" are characters that you play in the game that have 4 active abilities and a passive ability as well as different play styles. There are 6 main play styles or roles which include Tank, Fighter, Assassin, Mage, Marksman, and Support. There are also 4 positions that a Champion can fall into such as top lane, middle lane, bottom lane which consists of two champions, and jungle. After each player has selected a Champion the players are then transported to a magical arena called Summoner's Rift. Summoner's Rift consists of three lanes and a jungle as I previously stated. Top lane is usually played by Fighter or Tanks, Mid Lane has Assassins or Mages, Bot lane is a duo lane that has a pair played by a Marksman and a Support, and Jungle can be played by different types of champions but depend on the type of abilities. Now for the game objectives and how to...

Gaming Gear Market

Specifically, the emergence of computer gaming as a spectator sport has influenced many firms to develop products that satisfy the unique need of professional and recreational gamers alike. Much like the development of popular sports, such as basketball or soccer, the growth of eSports has created an industry that produces supplementary products required to enjoy the sport. However, instead of basketball and soccer shoes and clothing, the industry if focused on creating high-tech “gaming gear”. These products include higher function keyboards and mice, glasses to protect from glare, and headsets and microphones for gaming oriented communication. As more and more individuals become consumers of this market, the competition in gaming has increased, and the need for better and more sophisticated “gaming gear” equipment has evolved. Initially, with the introduction of computer gaming systems, the basic mouse and keyboard were essential components of most computer games. One of the first innovations in computer gaming history is the introduction of the Apple II and Commodore 64 in the late 1970’s. These were two basic gaming consoles based on the QWERTY keyboards. Both of these products had higher performance and utility in terms of gaming than the average household computer at the time. The evolution of technology attributed to gaming products did not start until...

Training Development

...Home Examples and samples Personal development plan final reflection essay Personal Development Plan Final Reflection Essay In my previous personal development plan, I had made several initiatives through which I hoped to achieve certain goals both in academics and in social life. In the previous personal development plan, I had embarked more on the process that I believe would help me to think about my own learning, performance and achievements as well as to plan my personal, educational, social and career development. Since I made the plan within the PDP, there are certain changes that I have witnessed happening in my career, social and learning areas. For example, I have noted that for the last one semester, I have improved in a number of areas that I had pointed in my last PDP. In academics, I have achieved a lot, as my average grades have improved from the previous B+ to an A. This is primarily because I was able to develop clear SWOT analysis, in which I recognized my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats not only in academics, but also in my social life, extra-curricular activities and any other activity I took. With this plan, I worked hard to perfect my strengths, correct the weaknesses and make them my strong points, utilize the opportunities placed within my abilities and finally recognize and avoid any negative effect that was posed by the threats in the SWOT analysis (Bolton 2010). From these considerations, I recognized that some...

Don't Blame Video Games

...Blame Video Games The video game error is somewhat new in this modern society. Although they are entertaining, the contents have become more violent and disturbing as technology has become more advanced. Today, the popularity of violent video games has caused an increase in controversy. Parents feel that some games are too violent; However, I believe violent video games do not cause an increase in aggression in teens. Besides the violent contents, video games has positive sides. For example, "Rainbow Six" series have become one of the games that require a solid teamwork. The player acts as the leader of an elite squad which consists of 3-4 members. At the beginning of the game, players can choose how to infiltrate the terrorist compound, either by planting an explosive on the door, using a fast rope from the rooftop, or simply breaching into several doors to create a surprise attack. These options push teen’s skills to the limit by forcing them to master the sense of logical thinking and strategy formations in which formal education does not offer. Video games are also a tool of social interactions. Sometimes Friendships are developed through playing video games and helps keep them away from drugs and violent activities. Most of the video games today have either multiplayer or online capabilities or even both. For example, I made friends with a lot of individuals from playing "Uncharted" online. The game focuses on eliminating the other team, so teamwork has a major...

Growing Up Tethered

This place the game takes is a safe haven for like minded individuals who love the game they play. While the players develop teamwork, the amount of tasks they agree to accomplish are limited down to one thing, which is to kill. This game is a controlled and set parameter made for the sheer purpose of violence. There is no consequence, no punishment, and no product to killing in these games. As a result people are numbed to the violence they are demonstrating because in their opinions it isn't real. And While the aliens and weapons of Halo 3 may not be real the violence is without a doubt real. The game desensitizes the players to violence that they see in their everyday lives because they see more brutal demonstration of gore every night...

Importance of Educational Video Games

...Importance of Eduactional Games According to AJ Martin (July 13, 2013) in his case study entitled “Video Games as a Part of Life” he stated that, “Some parents see video games as a brain-damaging waste of time, but recent studies show the opposite, video games help people, no wonder why they use it for rehab, training and just plain fun. It’s no secret that the Philippines is addicted to video games, in fact if you’re in a city in the Philippines, you can find an internet cafe within walking distance, and if you enter that internet cafe, there are bound to be teenagers there playing DotA or Counter-Strike or some other game. This isn’t a bad thing because it develops friendship, teamwork and the ability to socialize. According to Jason B. Almonte (June 22, 2011) in his case study entitled “Implementation of a digital game-based learning environment for elementary Education” he stated that, “Video games have gained high popularity nowadays that researchers have taken an interest in its use as an educational medium. Based on previous studies on educational game development, the project has developed video games for mobile handheld devices that cover Grade 6 Philippine Educational System Science curriculum topics. It aims to serve as a supplement to the student to further augment what they have learned inside the classroom and be able to use it in practical applications. Benefits of Gaming

...Benefits of Gaming Paden Muesse ITT-Tech Houston West Despite what most parents would tell you, video games can be beneficial to one’s health and child development. Video games can improve cognitive functions, such as hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and multi-tasking. They can also aid in the treatment of conditions like lazy-eye and dyslexia. Certain types of games, such as MMORPGs, encourage social interaction and teamwork. However, the opposition to these beliefs would say that gaming can cause addiction, social isolation, insomnia, and even weight gain and migraines. Yet even accredited psychologists believe that gaming can be beneficial for one’s health. Now not to say that all video games proved the same benefits, but different genres of games provide different ones. First Person Shooters, or FPSs, such as Call of Duty and Battlefield, help develop one’s sense of spatial awareness “in three dimensions just as well as academic courses designed to enhance these same skills.” (Bowen) Other types of games such as MMORPGs and MOBAs, like World of Warcraft and League of Legends, “requires essentially the same skills as making friends in the real world.” (Gray) Even games such as Angry Birds and other mobile time-killer games “can improve players' moods, promote relaxation and ward off anxiety.” (Bowen) Now, many parents would claim that video games are nothing but detrimental to one’s health and children’s development. It can cause problems such as insomnia...

...Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games 1 Daria J. Kuss, M.Sc., M.A., Jorik Louws, M.Sc.,2 and Reinout W. Wiers, Ph.D. 3 Abstract Recently, there have been growing concerns about excessive online gaming. Playing Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPGs) appears to be particularly problematic, because these games require a high degree of commitment and time investment from the players to the detriment of occupational, social, and other recreational activities and relations. A number of gaming motives have been linked to excessive online gaming in adolescents and young adults. We assessed 175 current MMORPG players and 90 nonplayers using a Web-based questionnaire regarding their gaming behavior, problems as consequences of gaming, and game motivations and tested their statistical associations. Results indicated that (a) MMORPG players are significantly more likely to experience gaming-related problems relative to nonplayers, and that (b) the gaming motivations escapism and mechanics significantly predicted excessive gaming and appeared as stronger predictors than time investment in game. The findings support the necessity of using measures that distinguish between different types of online games. In addition, this study proves useful regarding the current discussion on establishing (online) gaming addiction as a diagnosis in future categorizations of psychopathology. Introduction M assively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPGs) have become increasingly...
