Working as a Pharmacy Technician

...Catina Hunter 7/14/2014 The Worth of a Pharmacy Technician The Essentials of College Writing The work of a pharmacy technician can be both complex and stressful. We are not paid enough. For me it’s complex because I have to where many hats. It’s also stressful because not only do we have to deal with sometimes irate pharmacist but also facility employees. I have to even sometimes correct the pharmacist we are trained to assist. Our pay does not reflect the work or effort we put into our jobs. Even though we do more work physically and mentally than the pharmacist our pay does not reflect it. My work is far more important than what we are paid for. I on a daily basis assist customers, enter prescripstions, check inventory of controls, make sure patients get their meds in a timely fashion and deal with sometimes egotistical pharmacist who think we are nothing. I work for a Long Term Care pharmacy. Where our patients are most important. Dealing with families of patients who are end of life is also stressful. Will the comfort meds get there soon enough. Which is also stressful. I have to deal with nurses that think we are magician and can make things happen in a blink of an eye. Some technicians make less than $10 an hour. Which I think is unfair. I have argued this point for the other technicians for years. Some are even certified. Why be certified if a technician is barely making more than minimum wage? I work in the control department. I have been accused of not doing my...

Er Technician: a Glimpse Into an Overlooked Profession

...Jay, an Emergency Room Technician, is walking into work. It is 6:40 am, his shift starts at 7 am but he is required to clock-in earlier and attend the “shift huddle” (the huddle is where the incoming staff gets any pertinent information about what happened during the previous shift). It is 7:05 am, the huddle is over and Jay is checking the assignment sheet to see where in the department he is going to be working. At this emergency department, the nurses and techs will work in one of the four sections: A-pod (for the medium acuity patients, and it also houses the psychiatric patients), B-pod (where high acuity patients such as respiratory or cardiac arrest patients go), C-pod (for low acuity patients…it is kind of like an urgent care), or Start. Today, Jay is assigned to the start desk; this is the area that processes incoming patients after they have registered to be seen at the ER. Jay will work closely with a nurse to help triage people coming into the ER, and to watch over patients in the waiting room. Jay’s primary responsibility is to take an initial set of vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and oxygen saturation levels) on every person that comes in for treatment, and notify the nurse if any of those vital signs are abnormal. He will also help to take patients to their room once they are assigned one, help answer any questions, escort visitors, and to perform an electrocardiogram (EKG) on any patient that has a chief complaint warranting such a...

Technician

...Michael Maddox Mrs. Thornton LNG 341 October 26, 2015 Automotive Technician Automotive Technicians tend to the inspection, maintenance, and repair of vehicles. Oil changes and tire rotation are one of the two basic services. Auto Technicians take care of vehicles problems as best as possible. Auto technician is very helpful because if someone knows how to fix their car themselves without other people’s help, they can save time and money. Auto Technicians are more reasonable to take/work on people’s vehicles because they went to school for it. Auto Techs have a shop/ a business to service and repair vehicles. Taking a vehicle to a shop is better than trying to fix the car without knowing what to do. The change of vehicles over time has been a major impact. In the 1900’s, cars were very simple to operate and fix. As the years went by people have been designing and modeling new and more compact vehicles making it tougher and more complicated to fix and it takes more time as well. Back in the early 1900’s, cars did not have seat belts, now in 2015; cars now have Wi-Fi connectivity. “Auto Technicians today it is a highly technology job. Cars and trucks today run by electric systems and computers. The computers tell the automotive service technicians and mechanics how well the car or truck is performing” (2000-2014, Pearson Education). Saying that in today’s automotive industry it is much more high tech and more complicated to repair vehicles. Trying to fix...

New Health Medical Systems

...receive care for heart attacks, strokes, and other types of cardiovascular diseases. NHMS was quickly able to recruit a quality physician to head the unit as well as additional professional staff, however finding qualified technicians have become much more difficult than originally anticipated. The problem does not seem to be so much in terms of the position being attractive to candidates, but rather a lack of skilled technicians in the immediate region. Most of the skilled technicians are already employed, and are not actively seeking jobs with other organizations. In order to fill the 35 technician positions, the director of staffing has created a new staffing strategy that includes the following: 1. Place advertisement in the local newspapers 2. Contact staffing agencies that specializes in placing technicians into health care facilities 3. Organize a job fair and invite local professionals to attend 4. Offer a $1,000 signing bonus to anyone who joins the organization and stays for at least 180 days Although these four staffing strategies have the potential to increase the pool of candidates, I do not believe this strategy is strong enough nor will it be sufficient in aligning with the strategic goals of NHMS in filling 35 technician positions. The current...

...Date: Feb. 20, 2014 To: Ken Weston From: Islam Nassar Subject: Computer technician's issues. I would like to inform you that I am facing a major issue in our company. In the past month, three computer technicians suffered from similar complaints such as, sharp pains in the wrist, increasing numbness, and decreased range of motion. I have never had these complaints in this short time and the severity of symptoms seems to be increasing. I consulted experts from the sport and orthopedic medicine clinic about this major issue. They described these symptoms as repetitive strain injuries that might require surgeries if the cause of these symptoms is not corrected. Also, the physical therapist believes that exercise and wrist splints may help relieve symptoms and she recommended the consultation of an ergonomic analyst who recommended that, after his visit and observation of the company's work environment and equipment, the old keyboards should be replaced with ergonomic ones and every mouse should be replaced with a trackball. I investigated this situation from perspective of cost-benefit analysis. the ergonomic keyboards are designed to split the traditional rows of keys in half and to place the rows of keys at different angles, allowing the wrists to stay straight and relieving pressure on the forearm. Also trackballs do not require the repetitive clicking motion of the forefinger. Although following the recommendations of experts are costly, I think that they will avoid...
