Technology Impact Paper

...Technology Impact Paper TEC/401 Human Factors in Technology May 14, 2012 Technology Impact Paper Technology is a fundamental part of our lives; from the largest urban areas to remote populations, we rely on technology to live and work. As our dependence on technology grows, so does our thirst for innovation. As emerging technologies are introduced to the market, users respond with both adulation and acceptance. Although our tech-savvy society eagerly anticipates new technological releases; at times there can be a resistance to innovation. The impact of technology on consumers can be affected by several variables. The method of introduction of the technology to customers, the added value of the technology relative to the technology currently being utilized, the support plan emplaced to address questions and concerns from customers and the importance of new partnerships with technology partners each plays an important role in how technology impacts clients. The method of introduction of new products to customers can be the defining characteristic of a brand; strategically marketed product launches can foster anticipation for new technology. Conversely, radically implemented or poorly released products, (regardless of their value) can be met with opposition. The impact of a poorly introduced product can be greatly affected by the method of introduction. Promotion Campaign for Amazon Kindle

...Promotion Campaign for Amazon Kindle Situational Analysis Industry Overview The eReader market has obviously achieved its maturity stage. Although the first eReaders were introduced already in the late 1990s, the devices had grown in popularity only a few years ago, after the launch of the Amazon’s Kindle in 2007. Since 2006 when Sony introduced the American market to the first so-called “dedicated ebook reader” using electronic ink, a lot of other manufacturers decided to share a piece of the money cake. Soon Sony was no longer the monopolist on the market of this utterly new class of devices. Amazon managed to get the biggest slice of the market thanks to Kindle’s ultimate competitive advantage at that point – wireless download of ebooks, which contributed to an increase in impulse buying. At the moment, not only has the competition among eReader manufacturers escalated, but the consumers are being aggressively persuaded to buy a more multi-purpose device, such as a tablet computer, thus causing a category competition between dedicated eReaders and Tablets, most notably iPads. Growth of the market In recent years, despite tough competition from tablet computers, the eReader market has been experiencing outstanding growth rates. The number of ereader owners in the US has doubled in May 2011 since November 2010 from 6% to 12%, according to Pew Research Center, which is outstanding compared to the growth of tablet ownership: only 60% growth over...

...at the Paperless Office concept was first introduced in the 70-ties, as a futuristic office work-style, when the first personal computers were introduced. Advances in information & communication technology has since then made the Paperless Office a feasible reality. The advantages of going paperless are many and undeniable. LEARN MORE ABOUT PAPERLESS The terms "paperless," "electronic," and "digital" are often used interchangeably to describe work which previously was done with paper, but which now has been adapted to information & communication technology (ICT) devices and software. The Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) has defined information technology (IT) in the electronic era as "the study, design, development, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware." IT entails processes involving the use of computers and software to create, convert, store, process, transmit, and retrieve information securely. The term has recently been broadened to ICT (Information and Communications Technology), so as to include the idea of electronic communication. To be paperless means essentially that the traditional paper-based practices-such as writing, note taking, reading, editing, communicating, and even drawing-are instead performed electronically with ICT devices and software. Much has been said and written about the paperless office in recent years, and the rapid development...

Several perspectives on the social impact of technology are identified ranging from simple additive models that view technology as having a set of individual and independent causal impacts to a contingency perspective which views the impact of technology as dependent on technical and organizational characteristics. The paper statistically summarizes 30 empirical studies within the 1986-1990 period and finds common trends in findings as well as contradictory evidence. The common trends are that PMT tends to lead to more organic organizations, but also meets with negative employee attitudes, stress, and perceptions of reduced job security and mobility. The contradictory evidence is that most studies report simple, additive effects, while a substantial portion find that the impacts depend on a wide range of contingency variables. The authors argue that simplistic views of PMT as being...
