Recent advancements in technology have made big impacts on what is trending in society. Out of all of the trends though only a few stand out to me, Auto Intelligence like “Siri”, Virtual Reality like Oculus, and Global Positioning Satellites. In the field of study I am pursing all three of these would be a huge benefit, but the two I chose to right about are the AI and the Virtual Reality. Virtual Reality like the “Rift” system from the company Oculus is a fast growing market with large companies’ now start to create their own systems. The “Rift” system is currently used for mostly gaming, but I believe that one day in the near future a company with make it useful for a large variety of things. According to Forbes.com even Mark Zuckerberg, chairman of Facebook has said “Imagine enjoying a court side seat at a game, studying in a classroom of students and teachers all over the world or consulting with a doctor face-to-face—just by putting on goggles in your home.” And with that kind of backing you know the technology has very great potential. We will be able to learn better by being immersed in a world where the instructor can teach us by showing use in real time what they want us to see. I mean just think of how awesome that would be as a teach also, taking your students on a “Magic School Bus” like tour of the inside of a computer. So I hope one day the virtual reality makes it way to improve our lives like so many other technologies already have. Everyone know how much easier Siri has made live with the use of voice recognition and Auto Intelligence, but they forget how powerful it can be. Auto Intelligence can be a useful tool if you know how to use it and teach it how to search for the stuff you want to find. Now we have self-driving cars, and robots that can do just about anything. Before though the robots had to be programmed and would only follow a set of directions a human had input, but now they can think for themselves to an extent. It’s kind of scary when you think about it, but it is also really helpful. The auto intelligence used for these robots can make them think about the future and if a problem arises they can execute a different procedure to prevent it from happening. Also some of them even have emotions, but I digress, they real reason they would be good in my field of study is that I can use them as a tool to help me complete boring repetitive tasks. Robots don’t get tired or bored so it would be perfect for them to do it. So in conclusion to my research, I would say auto intelligence and virtual reality would be a great benefit, because of the ability to do boring and repetitive tasks and being able to show me how stuff works in real time. I think the virtual reality would make a bigger impact in schools, but auto intelligence would definitely win in the workplace. Each have their pro’s and con’s, but I think the pro’s outweigh the cons by a long shot.

Women in the Technology Field

...Women in the Technology Field COM/156 Women in the Technology Field The revolution of technology had begun centuries ago; it had been the work of many over the years to bring it where it is today. It entailed people with bright imaginations to come up with technological inventions. These inspiring designs were then taken and built upon to improve its operation. Finally computers were no longer a revolution, but an evolution. During the course of time many men as well as women were affected by technology. Unfortunately, women have not received the same form of acceptance as the men in this field of work. After careful research, women in technology, they found it was difficult to find the names of women influential in technology. In the era when women are increasingly prominent in many industries, there are few women in technology. There are many reasons some women might avoid a career in the technology field. Technology advancement and improvements increase the separation between genders, which show that industrialization and the principles of gender influence each other. Men and women have very different decision making-processes when assessing new technology. In the past, women were considered to be incapable to perform on the same level as men when dealing with technology. Women have been mainly seen as the “stay at home and take care of the kids” person. The majority of professionals in the technology field are male; these are manly environments in......

The Advancement of Technology in the Medical Field

...The Advancement of Technology in the Medical Field Technology in general has greatly improved in the last 50 or 60 years, but especially in the medical field. A lot of what drives the medical field today is computers. Computers have gone from being the size of a small room to being able to fit in the palm of your hand. The first computer was actually a calculator. With the advancements in being able to reduce the size of the integrated circuit or IC chips, also known today as microchips, they have gone from being able to fit a couple transistors on a chip to being able to implement billions of transistors on a single chip about the size of $.50 piece. With this we have really been able to advance the technology in the medical field. We have also been able to improve microscopes to be able to better see inside cells and to identify the different bacteria and viruses that infect humans and other plants and animals. Being able to better identify what is causing an illness, treatment can be greatly improved. Today there are cameras the size of a pill that you can swallow and a computer outside the body records it for the doctor to review. This makes it more appealing to the patients since it is less invasive. Technology in the medical field has come a long way in the past century. We have went from tonics that some Dr. and concocted in his office to being able to perform the major transplants that we can today. 50 years ago people would've never thought that a doctor would be......

Mrs Fields Case Study

...Mrs. Fields’ Cookies Case Study Assignment 1. Would you describe Mrs. Fields’ Cookies as more of a functional hierarchy structured along traditional functional lines or more of an IT-enabled network consisting of tailored business processes? I would describe the organizational structure of Mrs. Fields’ Cookies as being an IT-enabled network consisting of tailored business processes. Throughout the different sections of the case study, several examples support the notion that Mrs. Fields’ organizational structure aligns with the descriptions and characteristics of a networked structure. The importance that the organization places on Information Strategy and the innovative control processes in place also support this claim. In order to prove this, I’ll start by discussing the basic descriptions and characteristics of a networked organizational structure. Then, I’ll demonstrate through examples how Mrs. Fields’ is a proper fit to these descriptions and characteristics. Pearlson and Saunders describe a networked organizational structure as formal and informal communication networks that connect all parts of the company, as opposed to the bureaucratic form with defined levels of management in a hierarchal structure. Randy and Debbi Fields did not like the idea of a hierarchy because they believed it leads to a focus on managing people instead of business processes. At Mrs. Fields’ Cookies, there was no official organizational chart. Although there were job titles and......

Trends Related to the Human Service Field

...Trends Paper Because the world is constantly changing, the field of human services has to change with it. In order to see the impact of how and what services will be delivered now and in the future, both economic and political events and how they are related to human service trends will be observed as well as demographic trends that will influence the future needs in the delivery of human services. Economic Events “As human services changes, there may be both negative and positive reactions. It is possible that services will become more streamlined yet less available, and the cost containment will save money but become an overriding factor in limiting treatment and other services.” (Woodside & McClam, 2011, p. 91). Job loss and unemployment, can affect a client’s ability to provide basic care for themselves or their family. The client’s self-esteem, self-confidence and overall mental health can be affected causing a “domino effect” of other problems and difficulties causing the client to slip permanently into poverty, even as economic conditions improve, and seek out social services to relieve some of their financial hardship. Food assistance programs, low rental housing and job training are a few of the services that can be provided by the human service professional to ease some these financial burdens. As baby boomers age, the number of seniors will increase causing economic changes in the population. Poor physical and mental health, housing, employment and......

Technology Trends

...Technology Trends Proposal Part III Adding telemedicine as an option to our organization is going to be a radical change. Implementing this new form of care is a major change for the entire company. How management handles this change can help make the transition somewhat smoother. Management will need to possess several necessary aspects. Some of these necessities are leadership, vision, trust, and implementation. To be able to change, an organization must be led. A committee of people are often the leaders of a new system. Choosing the appropriate person to lead the committee is just as important as the committee itself. The leadership committee will need to be able to define the nature of the change to everyone involved in the organization. Being able to explain the rationale for adding telemedicine to the organization should be on the top of their agenda (Glaser, Lee & Wager, 2013). Vision is another aspect that needs to be addressed by management. This should include those who will be affected by the new implementation. They should know what their new roles are and how their new work flow will be affected. This vision should be clear to all involved. Change can be difficult for some people. Understanding why and the nature of the change should help staff members through this transition (Glaser, Lee & Wager, 2013). Being able to trust that management’s compassion, integrity, and leadership skills are in their best interest is important. If member of the......

Gonzenbach Southern Illinois University Carbondale Information Systems and Technology Trends Occurring in the Workplace Introduction The advancement of technologies in business is changing the world of work. Businesses find they must incorporate many of the new technological procedures, processes, policies, hardware, and software into their environment to remain competitive. The impact from these technological advances on how work is performed affects the workforce far differently now than what has been seen over the past 25 years. One of the greatest impacts has been on the workers themselves, and the challenge of training and preparing to remain abreast in today’s workforce is tremendous. This challenge, which is facing today’s workers, is something educators cannot afford to ignore. Technology has created a revolution in today’s educational environment, and this change in education makes teaching more rewarding and far more challenging (Bryant, 2001).
