As a child attending grade school in the 90’s and early 2000’s, I have seen the growth and change of the use of technology in education. The first time I could remember using a computer in school was maybe in the first or second grade. We would go to the computer lab once a week and we only utilized it for learning how to type and to play Oregon Trail. I cannot say that I was very enthused about computer lab at this age; I would have much rather been in P.E. or Art class. Continuing on into middle school, I utilized the Internet to help research topics for projects, but I was still an avid reader and loved going to the library and checking out books. By the time I entered high school, technology seemed to take off and changed; not necessarily how I learned or how the teachers taught, but my approach on completing my school projects. Neil Postman wrote an article in 1995 called “The End of Education” about the impact on technology in our school systems and its negative impact on children, primarily their social skills and interaction with society. I most certainly see the advantages and disadvantages of technology within our school systems, and its impact on children. I have seen firsthand as a child myself going through the beginning of technology being implemented in school and through my adult years taking online courses and the impact on my daughter’s education in her formative years.
Technology will continue to grow and although this particular article was written almost 20 years ago, its relevance to how technology will impact children’s education still stands valid. We indeed have come a long way since this article was published and some of Postman’s fears have, in my opinion, became reality like, “though new technologies may be a solution to learning of “subjects,” they work against the learning of what are called “social values,” including an…...

...People who live in the present century have got not only a large amount of benefits from technology but also some problems. To transfer from city to city by using a car which provides us convenience but it brings pollution to the environment concurrently. To work with a computer saves our time but internet also wastes our time more or less. These problems are all relating to our daily life;however, there are some feasible solutions. First of all, technology has improved our transportation but it has created pollution at the same time. People use a car to travel which is fast and convenient, but the gas from cars destroys the ozone layer;meanwhile, it also makes our living atmosphere become worse. The direct result of this problem is the temperature is getting higher because of the ozone depletion, and people’s health is not as good as before is the result of using a car for a long time but lack of activities. Furthermore, computer is the most useful and necessary invention for both our working and amusement nowadays; on the other hand, it also has some disadvantages. We use a computer as an assistant when we are studying, we use a computer as an important tool when we are doing some programs and we also use a computer as a machine to play games when we are free. There are a lot of teenagers wasting their time to play online games without self-control. It is becoming a serious situation because a lot of students are influenced by this problem. To deal with these two...

...Technology has been the biggest deal in the 21st century. Each day it improves more and more. Today, almost everything we do is affected by technology. It gives us a lot of advantages which is why we humans depend on it. However, do we depend on it too much? Technology seems to have become more of a convenience than a tool. Besides the many benefits of technology there are also a lot of arguments against it. One argument is that it has a negative effect on children. Kids are the future and if anyone should be learning the most it’s them. How could they possibly learn the most if all these technology makes everything easy for them? It’s giving them an excuse to be lazy. Calculators were created to solve hard math problems and not the simple ones. Now a day, kids can’t even do simple math problems in their head. Then there is spell check on computers. Most teachers want everything typed now, therefore students can’t really learn if spell check gives them the answer. Kids won’t be able to develop with a lot of knowledge if they always depend on technology to do the thinking for them. The United States has become lazier and lazier as we find easier ways to solve our everyday problems. Studies have shown that television and video games are main reasons for obesity. Teenagers can’t seem to go anywhere without their cell phones in their hands either. No one really goes outside anymore because of the entertainment inside. It’s good that we have these advantages but we can’t take...

...Technology is always advancing and improving throughout the world. Information systems have been able to reduce annual costs and increase the quality of their work within many different industries such as the agriculture, electronics, automotive industries, etc. The United States health industry has also been exploring how information systems can imitate the same results. There are many ways that a fully operational health information system can help alleviate the high cost of healthcare in the U.S. Each year, the U.S. spends approximately $1.7 trillion in healthcare costs, but yet our system still delivers poor health quality (Hillstead, R. 2005). Investing in health information systems however, the results have been an increase in efficiency, and a savings of about $77 billion or more annually (Hillstead, R. 2005). This increase in efficiency is the backbone to reducing healthcare costs in the U.S. Information systems increase efficiency by introducing a reduction in the time spent on daily clinical and administrative duties nurses and doctors have to perform, increasing patient safety, and increasing the overall health of the patients. Information systems such as those that facilitate billing, allow electronic medical records to be readily available in order to help in clinical decisions, the managing of materials, office automation, etc. are just a few systems that enhance productivity, improve patient quality, and improve healthcare delivery. Since these...

Where there is a computer there is internet. The internet connects computers, cell phones, mainframes and any internet ready enabled device. ...In this computerized era, technology plays a vital role in the growth of commerce and trade around the world. Technology is the practical application of knowledge so that something entirely new can be done or something can be done in a completely new way and it not only increases productivity but also provides a faster, more convenient and more efficient way of performing business transactions. Therefore, using technology is a way for business to succeed. Nike is one of the examples. Nike is an incorporated company that designs, develops and markets worldwide athletic footwear, apparel, equipment and accessories. In the early 1960s, Nike, originally known as Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS), was founded by Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman. 1972 was the first year of using the famous mark known as the Swoosh on Nike's first line of footwear and it officially became Nike in 1978. The Nike’s Air technology (Fig.1) was launched successfully in the Tailwind running shoe in 1979. Nike's Air technology which used a gas-filled bag of air inserted in the sole of the shoe to cushion the impact of running and these technologically advanced air-soles had created a good foundation for which further Nike advancements are based on. Thankfully, it has contributed to the growing popularity of the company's products throughout the USA and Nike’s revenues surpassed $ 1 billion for the first time in 1986. In the course of time, Nike entered into the global market and it became such an innovative brand...

...The technological revolution has brought forth many changes to how humans function and its inevitable advancement continues to alter different aspects of life and how day-to-day activities are carried out. Today, technology has reshaped interactions on a personal and professional level, ultimately causing a shift in traditional values and norms. It is not uncommon for a household to possess several smartphones, computers, television sets, and be connected socially via one of many social network platforms such as Facebook or Twitter. Although this might be the case for an individual living in the 21st century, many consumers are not only used to such technology being part of their life, but are rather dependent on them. There is legitimacy in arguing that modern technology including the internet and smartphones are essential components for effective integration and advancement; however, the internet itself came to be in an age where internet and smartphones ceased to exist. Hence, such modern revolutions simply enhance efficiency but do not necessarily determine/limit progress or potential achievement. Technology can be an effective tool when used properly; however, the 21st –century human being’s over-dependency on technology has negative consequences as it is analogous to drug addiction: both are addictive, are hazardous to one’s health, and cause isolation. Within today’s technology-driven society, consumers are finding the notion of constant technology use...

...Technology: It’s Effect on Our Youth Growing up I remember playing outside all day, enjoying the outdoors, and riding bikes down the dirt roads, trying to find some new adventure to get into. Looking around now, I notice teenagers glued to their phones when they are out eating, walking around and even while driving. It seems like a lot has changed since I was a child. Technological advances have made our way of life easier by making communication faster than ever before, improving production rates, and making it easier to access information. However, with the good also comes the bad. I have noticed an increase in the time children spend inside, as opposed to outdoors, the changes in behavior of children and teenagers, and the decline in personal interaction. I believe that technology, if not used in moderation, could have a negative influence on our youth. I have noticed the significant change that has occurred in technology in just a generation’s time. As a child, I remember when people were purchasing their first personal computers, usually for everyone in the household to share. These computers were not nearly as fast and advanced as computers are today. Now, nearly every home in America has a personal computer, laptop or some other way of accessing the internet, like a smartphone or tablet. While access to the internet can help educate children if used in an educational way, misuse of technology, like playing violent video games, could cause a...

...Technology The issue of people are increasingly on technology to solve problem, in future our ability to think for ourselves will obviously decrease is a controversial one. On one hand, they think it does not matter to use technology to solve. On the other hand, if you use technology to solve problem, your ability to think will decrease. However, in final analysis, I believe that people use technology to solve problem is not lead to ability to think decrease because we can choose to use technology appropriately, we can get more in formation and we do not concern that we will forget something. One reason, you can use technology appropriately. For example Match, if you strongly know how to solve the solution, you can use calculator to calculate. Some solution is easy to think but it is difficult to calculate. It is better that you use calculator to solve it because it can save your time. If you want to practice you can review by yourself again without calculator. Another reason I believe people use technology to solve, they will get more information. Because people just answer by own opinion, they cannot make everyone believe in them information. Otherwise people find the information from many sources will make more believable. Of cause they will get more information if you use the technology. Final reason, we do not concern that we will forget something. Phone number is one thing to member it. You just member important number or often to use. Another number you can......

...How technology has changed the world? Technology is the present world. It affects people’s daily lives. Whether it inspires somebody to be the master at videogames or makes somebody a computer hacker. It has changed the generation of teenagers/young adults rapidly. It has made the generation more greedy, ignorant, and lazy. For instance, my parents did not have fancy cell phones or high-tech computers back then because it was never created. They only had a bike and ball until it was worn out. They never thru a fit for not getting what they wanted or sat at home, playing videogames for numerous hours. They would always be outside, whether the weather was hot or cold, playing soccer or having a snowball fight with their friends. And when they didn’t want to go outside, they sat down, read a book, played cards, or even drank hot cocoa. Now a day, it’s all about getting an iPod touch or a phone with a touch screen. Soon, people will have chairs that will fly around to get a soda from the fridge so they don’t have to get their butt up and walk. Though there seems to be more negative influence of technology, there may still be some silver lining. Technology is taking over our world. People don’t realize what it is doing. In the music industry for instance, when a new song comes out by a famous rock star wearing a metal jacket with no shirt on and multiple piercings, people end up coming to school dressed the same way. They would say to their parents, “It’s the new style at...

...The Web The Web is at the heart of many ways in which technology has affected communication. It enables us to instantly communicate across the world for the price of a broadband subscription, which has had a dramatic impact on how we can keep in touch with family or do business with colleagues working remotely. While this has made it easier to make contact with others, it has also made it more difficult to switch off. Communicating with those we know is now much simpler and more convenient than it ever has been, at the risk of making our lives ever more hurried and busy. Cell Phones Cell phones and other mobile devices such as tablets have accentuated the impact of the Web. Not only are we accessible every time we sit down at a computer, we are now accessible from wherever we are. Our mobile phones enable us to communicate with hundreds or even thousands of contacts across a myriad of services and platforms with a few taps on the screen. It is no longer necessary to use face-to-face contact and speech to communicate – we can use short SMS messages, or leave a voicemail, or send a tweet from our phones. Again, the convenience offered by all of these extra channels is counterbalanced by the additional effort required to monitor them all. Email Emailing is the letter-writing of the 21st century, but it's so much more besides. It enables us to send short ideas or thoughts as well as lengthy missives, it enables us to send the same message to dozens of people at the...

...Technology is used on a daily basis. To get to work, school, or appointments on time we use our alarm clocks to help us wake up. To help us fall asleep we either listen to music, watch television, or read a book on our eReader. The technology that is readily available today allows everyone to practically do everything in the comfort of their own home. With just a touch of a button, we can accomplish tasks such as shopping, taking online courses for education, and even work from home. Think about it. What would happen if technology were to be taken away from us? I know we are capable of performing our everyday tasks without technology, but do you seriously think we want to, especially knowing how it has improved our lives. How would we be able to communicate with one another, especially those who live far away? Do you think we will be able to experience the same joy and happiness without technology? I believe we should all focus more on face-to-face relations rather than just the screen in front of us. Today, we are excessively dependant on technology whether we are at home, school, or work. Let us face it; technology efficiently reduces the time it takes to perform our daily tasks. Today, technology has benefited us in speed and efficiency. Technology has simplified our lives, cut costs, cut travel time, improved communication, as well as time spent on labor. Social media has made communicating with friends and family much easier. Unlike snail mail communicating through......

While the iPhone continues to be the most purchased phone in the world year after year, the newest product possesses many features in hopes to keep Apple’s success at a high level. In recent times, smartphones are being produced at bigger sizes to help cope with the advances in technology. The iPhone 6 Plus measures 6.22 inches by 3.06 inches, making it nearly big enough to be considered a tablet computer. The underlying cause for the increase in sizes is so the products can complete more tasks, while creating a user-friendly interface for customers. In addition, Apple set out to release the iPhone 6 plus in efforts to have a device available that can be used for close to everything. Out of convenience for consumers, Apple’s aim is for people to be able to purchase one machine rather than buying a smartphone, laptop, and a tablet. The iPhone 6 Plus does a terrific job covering the features that all three of these major technological devices include. Most people would indeed prefer a single machine that can fulfill all of their computing needs. Purchasing an iPhone 6 Plus comes with some trade-offs. Obviously, the...

...The technology which surrounds almost everyone in the modern society, affects both work and leisure activities. Technology contains information that many would rather it did not have. It influences minds in good and bad ways, and it allows people to share information which they would otherwise not be able to attain. Even if a person does not own a computer or have credit cards, there is information on a computer somewhere about everyone. The technology which is just now beginning to be manipulated and harnessed is affecting the minds of small children and adolescents in ways that could be harmful. It is affecting our immediate future. It also gives another form of communication and exchange of information which was not available before, information that is both good and bad. Technology is one of the principal driving forces of the future; it is transforming our lives and shaping our future at rates unprecedented in history, with profound implications which we can't even begin to see or understand. Many different elements affect how satisfied we are with our lives. The impact of technology on these elements can change how safe, healthy and happy people feel. Throughout history, people have looked for better ways to meet their needs and to satisfy their expectations. Technology has improved the way people feed, clothe and shelter themselves. Technology has also changed other aspects of everyday life, such as health care, education, job satisfaction, and leisure time......
