“We really have this incredibly simplistic view of why people work and what the labor market looks like.” -Dan Ariely, Behavioral Economist In his TED talk lecture, Dan Ariely reveals the complicated attitudes towards the meaning of work. Prior to the Industrial Revolution people valued their work, and we are now in a time where work is more about producing in the most efficient way and keeping costs down for companies. The theories of Marx, Durkheim, Weber and Bourdieu touch upon many of the experimental findings of Ariely, and in some cases challenge us to think further about our true meaning of work. “Just as in religion the spontaneous activity of the human imagination, of the human brain and the human hear, operates independently of the individual–that is, operates on him as an alien, divine or diabolical activity—so is the worker's activity not his spontaneous activity. It belongs to another; it is the loss of his self. (Marx, 1964, p. 111).” According to Ariely, a person can work on a product from start to finish and the production would be very low. On the contrary, a different person can work on each part of a product and the production would increase tremendously. Marx believed that the alienation of labor is pertinent when we think about how workers connect to what they are doing. Specifically, he says that although one person making a product from start to finish might decrease production, it might increase the care being put into the product. When the product is being handed off every new step, the workers might not care as much about the quality and product they are working on. This distances the worker from his labor, causing him to lose control of the things in his life. In the Division of Labor in Society, Durkheim proposes that societies form from being simple…...

Reflection on What I Learned from the Information Technology Course and Project thinking. Although, I have used technology in my classroom before, now I 2 have new ideas and skills to do a better job. In class I was given many different materials such as the different ways to use mobile phones, tablets or computers in the classroom. A brave new world talks about how the new generation have different ways of doing things and most importantly learning, which makes a lot of sense to me because I am not very old myself and I love to practically do or understand something, which I find helps to a greater extent in learning. A fairytale love story about a large green ogre, an outspoken Donkey, and Fiona, a princess different than most. The movie is an astonishing visual that has animation techniques that are very life like and fantastical all at the same time. DreamWorks motion picture Shrek is a well written movie with its great animation and wonderful characters. Shrek is a large green ogre that lives in a swamp surrounded by “Keep Out” signs. Lemon Anderson then helps to demonstrate it by saying it aloud with expressions so that people can actually feel the meaning of the poem. Different sound devices can be found such as rhyme/meter, assonance, and onomatopoeia in the poem and these can be shown clearly through Lemon’s performance. Please Don’t Take My Air Jordans is written with stressed and unstressed syllables, which are clearly shown when reading aloud. For example: “my air jordans cost a hundred with tax my suede starters jacket says raiders on the back i'm stylin . . . smilin . . . lookin real mean cuz it ain't about bein heard just bein seen” (Reg, 1-4) Without looking at Lemon’s performance, the readers can find some of the words that are stressed usually enhance the name of an object, or the action of the character in the poem. Words that are highlighted are examples with easy recognized stressed syllables. However, it is quite different in Lemon’s performance. He only stresses on the words styling, smiling, and looking since they enhance the character’s action of showing himself/herself that he/she is happy. I think for this device it is less effective and the meaning is not clear in spoken live because he seems to miss some of the important stressed syllables that he actually turns it unstressed instead.
