Teen Moms
Being a teen mom is definitely not an easy task. Teen pregnancy is the number one reason why teen girls drop out of school. Many teenage girls begin to lose or forget about their dreams of ever finishing high school and going to college, and focus mainly on taking care of their babies. Without support and help from others, these girls are forced to end their education, to take care of their children. Statistics show that only about one-third of teen moms will graduate high school and a little over one percent of these mothers will receive a college degree before the age of 30. Becoming a teen mom should not stop a young woman from continuing with school. Therefore, many support systems, such as affordable childcare, support groups, public assistance, etc., should be implemented in their communities.
Becoming a parent at a young age can alter a teen’s life tremendously. For most teenage mothers, school, let alone college are most likely the last things that are on their minds. They are worried about how they are going to take care and provide for their child. Many teen moms have no one to help them, they are basically on their own. Some have the desire to finish high school and attend college, but without the help and support it is almost impossible for them to do so. These mothers should be able to further their education just like the rest of their peers. However, teen moms have many factors in the way, such as not enough affordable childcare, lack of support from family and friends and not earning enough money to be able to provide and care for their child and also college.

Teen Mom

...Teen pregnancy When it comes to teen pregnancy, there is no stereotype. Some teens can be persuaded into waiting. Others will have an opinion about sex and not change their minds for anyone. All teens have their own opinions about everything that they do and don't do. One teen might be the result of a teenage pregnancy and choose to wait. On the other hand, they might think that it is no big deal. Being a teen mom myself opened my eyes to many things. I got pregnant, partially out of choice - I thought that a baby would bring me and my fiancé closer together. It was mostly an accident though. There was nothing that my parents or anyone else could have said to stop me from having sex. I was engaged to the man of my dreams and gave myself to him entirely. Sometimes, the teen parents stay together, but unfortunately, as in my case, they often do not. The father of my child was just as excited and was looking forward to the birth of our son, just as much as I was. We had many plans for the future. We had already known each other for approximately four years, dated for around three years, and were engaged for a little over two years, before my baby was born. Everything was going great. Our love was only strengthened by my pregnancy. Once we found out that I was having a boy, the father was even more excited. He now lives in Nebraska, with his girlfriend of three months. He has only seen his son two times, since he was born. He was also called three times. It is so difficult...

Teen Mom

...Teen Mom The show “Teen Mom” in my opinion has a very positive and negative balance of the show. Teen Mom is a television show which comes on the television station MTV, it is about a group of high school girls who have had babies, and they are still trying to maintain work, or even finish school. The show lets society into these girls’ lives, and shows the struggles, and also the high points of these teenage boys and girls lives, after having children. The show follows at least four to five young teenage girls, they also follow them through their entire pregnancies, and also the relationships that they have with their families. The show also shows how the relationships between the teen mom and dad may change before and after the baby. I like this show because it tells our young society that they should try and practice abstinence as long as possible, but it also sends a message out to the young teenagers about the way their lives could change with a baby. There are some teenagers who actually stay together on the show and get married, and then there are those teens that fall in the statistics category of being a single teenage mom. The show provides us with a balanced knowledge of wait could happen to us when we have a child at such a young age. The message it sends is very important, because there are a lot of teens who have children when they are young, it lets them know that they too, can become one of those teenagers who has had a child, and can finish school, find a...

...woman can go through. Becoming a teen mom is not always the best thing that can happen to a woman at such a young age. Ever since MTV’s 16 and Pregnant came on the air, they have glamorized the life of a teen mother and teen pregnancies. However being on a show for thirty minutes doesn’t begin to illustrate how hard it really is to become a teen mom or the consequences of teen pregnancies. Becoming a teen mom comes with consequences, ones that can effect and change the lives of both the mother and the baby. Teen pregnancies have recently been on the rise and it comes with many factors that can change all of the people involved. Of all of the consequences that teen pregnancies can bring to a mother, one of the most important is the affect of the completion of high school to both the teen mother and father. The National Conference of...

Reasons For Adopting Early Pregnancy in the United States A. Teen Pregnancy B. Teen Moms Financial Struggles Emotional Struggles and Suicide Positives of Adoption A. Abortion Alternative B. Better the Quality of Life C. A Second Chance Arcieri 1 Recent studies in the United States have shown that thirty-four percent of teenage women will become pregnant at least once before the age of twenty. Of the 820,000 teen pregnancies each year seventy-nine percent occur out of wedlock, while one third never achieve a high school diploma or GED (Chappuis). It is estimated that about five percent of teen mothers end up putting their child up for adoption. As for the ninety-five percent of those teen moms that choose to raise their child on their own, many of them feel differently about their decisions once they attempt to balance the hardships of raising a child with living the life of a teenager ("Abortion.org"). This can easily lead to added stress levels, an unhealthy environment, and improper care for the child. One and a half percent of teen moms that decide to keep their child do not achieve a college degree before the age of thirty (Chappius) where as on average forty-three percent of adopted children end up in homes where at least one parent already has a college degree...

...In The Silver Star by Jeannette Walls, Liz is an exceptionally intelligent and independent child for someone her age, of only fifteen years old. Because of her extreme responsibility and compassion for those around her, she is a great role model for Bean, her little sister. Other than being a role model, Liz's main purpose is to serve as the maternal figure for Bean since their birth mother leaves for weeks at a time, and is not around to support them. Liz shows her role by always taking care of Bean when their mom decides to leave. To begin, Liz achieved her maternal role to Bean, by getting a job of her own, "Liz had been doing some babysitting, but after Mom had been gone a week, she decided to take on extra work, and I got a job delivering Grit, a newspaper with useful stories..." (Walls 15). Liz knows that if she is not independent and got a job then there was no way that her and Bean could survive without their mother. Also it was her idea to leave for Byler so that the bandersnatchers, which is the girls word for the police, would not be able to take them away to Child Protective Services. Liz always knew what to do in these kind of situations, as we are told by Bean, which makes Liz very dependable. NYC Subway's Advertisement Toward Teen Moms

...institute) Even though the number of unplanned teen pregnancies are decreasing, this ad is focusing on teen moms. The ads display small children with distressed looks on their faces, a banner across the middle and other text around the children. None of the ads directly target teen dads; the issue is toward teen moms. The teen pregnancy advertisement posted in the NYC subway is geared toward teen moms rather than teen dads because of the colors, fonts and emotions provoked. Color has a vast impact on how an advertisement is viewed. In this advertisement certain colors are employed like pink, white, yellow and black. The color utilized the least is pink, but has the greatest impact. The pink is used once in the banner to add a pop of color to the banner. The words highlighted by the pink tone is “teen mom” and “teen parents” pulling the audience back in. Females are associated with the color pink. The color pink is associated with “being immature and girlish” and having “lack of will power and lack of self-worth” (Scott- Kemmis). Hence, its employment in the ad, the ad is attempting to...

Once I Was a Teen Mom Too

...high hopes about my future. My family life was a mess. My parents were understandably upset with my choices. I believe that for a good portion of my pregnancy I was depressed, and I felt very isolated. Because of the stigma associated with teenage pregnancy, adolescents may also experience extreme emotional highs and lows. It's important for a teen to assess how she feels: Sad? Anxious? Embarrassed? and then acknowledge these feelings. Pregnant teens should reach out to friends and family and share their thoughts. I felt anxious that friends may not want to hang out with me once I started showing, and I should have told them. I bet many friends would have stood by me and offered support during this time. I was sad about disappointing my family, and I should have better expressed those feelings — it's important to ask for support and reassurance. And as I was worried about my future, I know how important it is to talk about your concerns with your family or a trusted adult who can help access all available health, educational, and social services. Most importantly, it's essential to read up on information about pregnancy hormones. Teens may have a hard time telling the difference between typical mood swings associated with pregnancy, and unusual, lingering symptoms of clinical depression that should be addressed by a mental health professional. Believe it or...

Social Psychology

...The Self-Concept is a complicated process of gaining self-awareness. It consists of mental images an individual has of oneself: physical appearance, health, accomplishments, skills, social talents, roles, intellectual traits, and emotional states and more –all make up our self-concept.  The development process begins at about six or seven months of age. The child begins to recognize “self” as distinct from surroundings. They stare at anything they see, including their own body parts; hands, feet, toes, and fingers. As they grow, their sense of identity expands through interactions with others –creating self-esteem levels that become the “booster” for the ability to interact. As people’s outcomes in life depend heavily on how others perceive and evaluate them, they are motivated to convey certain impressions of themselves to others and to refrain from conveying other, undesired impressions. Thus, no matter what else they may be doing, people typically monitor and control their impressions, i.e. a process known as: self-presentation. A great deal of human behaviour is, in part, determined or constrained by people’s concerns with others’ impressions and evaluations of them. ’I’m too short’’. ‘’I’m too tall’’. ‘’I would be happier if I were skinnier, fatter, had bigger muscles, smaller ears, had straight hair, curly hair’’. Do any of these statements ring a bell? Are you used to demoralizing yourself? If so, you are not alone. As a teenager, our body changes dramatically...

...English 379 March 12, 2013 In the movie easy A, a teen comedy, the main character Olive is initially presented to the viewers as the virginal and feminine high school student who dresses like the average high school student, mostly in pants, and turns out to be transformed into the sex object/pin-up girl to resemble her counterparts in the movie. One being her best friend Rhi and the other Marianne, both whom which throughout the entire movie are always in very short skirts and/or extremely revealing tops, especially Rhiannon. Nonetheless, the one normal, dressing female in the movie, Olive, is then in turn forced and presented as a skank, a whore, and a home wrecker. Although one of the central themes of the movie is the loss of virginity, there are no sex scenes and it does displays a witty, contemporary, modern day spin on Nathaniel Hawthorne's classic novel, The Scarlet Letter. Moreover, the message depicted throughout the movie is that an innocent, little white lie can get blown out of proportion and that teenagers in general are concerned of how others perceive them in their day to day lives. The movie starts off with Olive being portrayed as a virginal, down to earth, average high school student with no cares in the world but is hastily transformed into the slutty female character very commonly used throughout Hollywood films to depict females nowadays. When a little white lie about losing her virginity meant for her best friends ears only gets out of hand and...

Pop Language

...Stephanie Alexander Professor Brendan Praniewicz English 205 17 Aug. 2013 Everybody Say, “Yeah” Imagine the typical day of a young person in the 21st Century. She gets in her car and immediately turns on her favorite pop radio station on the way to work. Her friends from college invite her to a party after her shift ends, and she invites a few friends as well. In the car on the way to the party, while chit chatting over upbeat background music, one of them exclaims, “Oh! I love this song!” One of them turns the volume up and they all sing together to the catchy tune and the easy words of “Young, Wild, and Free” by Wiz Khalifah, “Roll one. Smoke one. When you live like this you’re supposed to party…” This line in the song is extremely easy to learn because it has been repeated several times in less than three minutes, and is set to the sound of a catchy tune. Perhaps pop music has been designed to fit into this modern lifestyle, where one is always on the go, and wants to stay active and energetic. Who has time to really listen to what the song is saying if it has rhythm and is easy to sing along to? Without listening, we tune out the important form of expression that is musical lyrics, and this drop in emphasis encourages a lack of investment in song composition. American Pop music’s language is digressing to the point where it is more offensive, repetitive, and shallower than ever. Offensive language in modern pop music is becoming more normal. The modern American...
