...The Temptations The Temptations are a very popular Motown band that started in the 1960’s when two local vocal groups joined forces. The 1965 album The Temptations Sing Smokey is their album that really catches my ear and put The Temptations on the map. The members of the group at that time were David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks, Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin, and Paul Williams. The album was composed of songs written and produced by Smokey Robinson and was the second album The Temptations had put out. Not only is the music great, but also The Temptations knew how to perform. The three hits of the album are the famous “My Girl,” “The Way You Do The Things You Do” and “It’s Growing.” (allmusic.com) All of the songs mentioned above are love songs. I think that is why The Temptations were so popular and still are. The words to all these songs contain metaphors about love and can’t help but cheer someone up. ...When thinking back on the fable the first words that come to mind are fascinating, compelling, and utterly memorable. The Five Temptations of a CEO was like no other business book that I have ever read before. Management consultant Patrick Lencioni told the tale of a young CEO who, facing his first annual board review, knows he is failing, but doesn't know why. It was a great book for current and future leaders to recognize the mistakes that can be made and how to avoid them. In this fable I learned that success as a leader can come down to practicing a few simple behaviors that can be difficult for each of us to master. ...African American Movie Paper HUM/105 November 19, 2012 Danielle Jones Out of all the great African-American films out there, I decided to write on a film, which is still considered to be a classic to this day, “Cooley High.” The film takes place in Chicago, 1964, and centers on a group of lower-class black kids, including Preach, a smart student, and his close friend, Cochise, a great athlete who's on the verge of getting a scholarship. This film has been compared to be the black version of George Lucas' "American Graffiti"; the film has a lot of energy and substance to easily overlook that fact. There are many funny moments, including a scene where the boys joyride with Preach behind the wheel; a scene where the boys cut class and head to the zoo, ending with a hilarious encounter with a gorilla; and a scene where Preach hides from some hoodlums in an bathroom that is occupied. There's also romance in the film, as Preach attempts to woo classy beauty Brenda; the two even lose their virginity together in a truly tasteful scene. The movie ends in tragedy, and since the characters have depth, we feel the loss. “Cooley High” set the standard for African-American film excellence when it was made.
