Terrorism In The Homeland
June 12, 2016

Terrorism via mass murder and self suicide doesn't seem to be going away and further our ways of dealing with it are getting more and more successful due to the hard work of our security agencies and law enforcement efforts but apparently and at times, ineffective at best. Granted, this is an intricate and wide spread problem all around the world however and disturbingly enough, it appears to be picking up here in the United States more then we would like to admit.

I think terrorism is only the symptom to a multi leveled problem and not the entire problem within the act of terrorism itself as like any act of depravity. There are many other hidden factors contribute to this act of finality, a last malevolent act of desperation and hatred that we have all come to know as ‘radical terrorism’ that procreates unbalanced views leading to horrendous and violent outcomes in what would typically be orderly and civilized societies.

A radical view starts out with disenfranchisement fro society itself and then graduates to resentment, hate and finally, the last great act of defiance against a society that has no idea of what's going on in the twisted and suicidal mind of a given perpetrator of terrorist activity.

Now, I could speculate on the cause of terrorism by offering a theory as to why this fatal ideology is occurring by giving several examples of root cause such as, pollution and or, chemical additive found in our food, water and air supply that aids in gearing some trains of thought and or, our brains to perceive reality in a distorted way leading to violence via altering the passive parts of our brains and chemically inducing the aggressive side, etc.

I could theorize and speculate that this issue could be a part of a problem derived from a type of socialized disenfranchisement or further, the human disconnect

Terrorism and Homeland Defense

...Terrorism and Homeland Defense Fundamentals Weekly Assignment 3.2 Part One: 1. Describe the United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine in 1947. For two years after the end of WWII, the world was in constant flux. New countries and boundaries were being drawn and one of the most contested and controversial was the creation of an Israeli/ Palestinian state. The Learning Network (2011) states the following: On Nov. 29, 1947, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution calling for Palestine to be partitioned between Arabs and Jews, allowing for the formation of the Jewish state of Israel. Since 1917, Palestine had been under the control of Britain, which supported the creation of a Jewish state in the holy land. Sympathy for the Jewish cause grew during the genocide of European Jews during the Holocaust. In 1946, the Palestine issue was brought before the newly created United Nations, which drafted a partition plan. The plan, which organized Palestine into three Jewish sections, four Arab sections and the internationally-administered city of Jerusalem, had strong support in Western nations as well as the Soviet Union. It was opposed by Arab nations. US Central Intelligence Agency (para. 1-3) 2. Why do you think that Palestinian terrorists concentrate on soft targets? The concentration on soft targets is a result of the need to draw attention of a global audience that is increasingly challenging to traumatize, the growing sophistication of the terrorists...

...The representation of terrorism, Islam and Muslim identities on popular US series Homeland Introduction Images of Muslim and Islam have dramatically increased in the media coverage as well as popular culture ever since we have entered the “post-9/11 era”, as Elizabeth Poole observed. (2008:81) The shocking real life images from the horrifying terrorist attack in September 2011 has triggered various interpretation on the discourse of what it means to be Muslim and the image of Islam and its culture in the western media, and still have profound influence even after more than a decade and ongoing. Apart from the coverage on news media, TV entertainment, especially TV dramas also provide a powerful outlet for the popular prevailing discourses on Muslim and Islamic culture, which compare to news reports, leaves a more vivid and graphic impression on audience with its discourse and narratives. The proposed subject I am going to study is revolved around the representation of Islam and Muslim identity in the popular US TV drama Homeland. (Showtime, 2011) Homeland (Showtime, 2011) has been arguably the most successful TV series focusing on the theme of counter-terrorism and national security across the Atlantic since 2011, following its predecessor 24 (Fox, 2001) developed by the same producers. When asked what made the show distinctive compared to its predecessors, Damian Lewis, who played as Sgt Nicholas Brody, the male lead in Homeland replied, “We feel a bit differently...

U.S. Department of Homeland Security

...U.S. Department of Homeland Security Chris Cabral National American University Abstract The primary mission of the Homeland Security Act is to prevent terrorist attacks within the United States, reduce the vulnerability of the United States to terrorism, and minimize damage and assist in recovery for terrorist attacks that occur in the United States. The U.S Department of Homeland Security was established after the 9/11 attacks to counter terrorist activities against the United States. Homeland security is officially defined by the National Strategy for Homeland Security as "a concerted national effort to prevent terrorist attacks within the United States, reduce America's vulnerability to terrorism, and minimize the damage and recover from attacks that do occur”. The major objective of the Patriot Act is “to deter and punish terrorist acts in the United States and around the world to enhance law enforcement investigatory tools" by dramatically reducing restrictions pertaining to law enforcement requests to search telephone records, e-mail communication, and health records. The Patriot Act allows for the emergency disclosure of electronic communications to protect life and broadens the definition of terrorism to include acts of domestic terrorism. Homeland Security Research Design

...Homeland Security Research Design Chris Hix HSM421: Research & Analysis in Homeland Security Professor:  Kenneth Jenkins March 7, 2016 Homeland Security Research Design The United States has invested heavily in maintaining cyber security and border security in the homeland. Federal, State, and Local level initiatives have been implemented to escalate enforcement undertakings in communities across the country. These efforts are geared towards thwarting illegal border crossings and unlawful presence and occur in tandem with workplace enforcement to prevent illegal employment. However, these measures are not level with the excessive’ focus on terrorist threats displayed by agencies tasked with ensuring homeland security. The system is correctly focused on the terrorist threat posed by radical groups that are miles away while exhibiting complacency to more immediate threats. For instance, hackings, illegal immigration, human, and substance trafficking do more damage in a year than the combined damage of all terrorist activities to ever occur on American soil. Consequently, if the system is to achieve its mandate of ensuring Homeland Security, its main focus should be on immediate threats, of which cyber and border security are of most concern. The continued focus on terrorism as the central threat to homeland security necessitates an examination of the key factors that influence decision-making regarding homeland security. Hypotheses Getting the priorities right...

...HOMELAND SECURITY Terry Davis CJAD 495 Professor R. Moser Introduction Since the birth of this nation, there has been concern for security and freedom of all the citizens of the United States. We have fought wars across our nation, across borders and across the globe, all in the pursuit to protect our freedom and the American way of life. There have been many threats against the American pursuit of freedom that started with the Revolutionary War, a young nation fighting to break away from a nation of strength. Then our battle over land expansion and the taking of the land from the Native Americans, some perceived them as savages or maybe even terrorist. Then we turned to secure our borders to prevent other nations from coming into our nation and grabbing up land. Then our pursuit of freedom expanded the globe and with other nations as we assisted in the attempt to spread democracy in countries struggling to become nations. In this attempt, there have been many enemies formed that despise the US and the pursuit of freedom. This has become a major concern of the US and on September 11, 2001, this concern became a reality. How could something so devastating be carried out against a world-leading nation? What was wrong with the infrastructure and how could it be fixed to prevent other terrorist attacks. The answer was to form a department in the federal government that would have the power to act and the power to share intelligence information. Terrorism and US Threats ...

Rules of Local Law Enforcement in Homeland Security

...The Roles of Local Law Enforcement in Homeland Security Ever since the Terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001in New York City, the role of local law enforcement has drastically changed. On November 25, 2002 the Homeland Security Act (HSA) was signed into law by President George W Bush.” What the Homeland Security Act did was it helped to restructure law enforcement in the United States on the Federal level. Before the Homeland Security Act, the Federal law enforcement fell under the Department of Justice. After HSA was enacted into law it split the Department of Justice into the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Under the Department of Homeland Security umbrella "there are twenty two agencies and about 170,000 employees, all with functions related to homeland security." (Katz) While the development of this new Department of Homeland Security was a great goal, they just didn't have the available manpower to be able to distribute the men and women to protect all the trouble areas. This is one of the reasons why the role of local law enforcement is so vital to homeland security. The Federal agents and the local police departments work hand in hand to help each other cover the blind spots. One way that the Federal and local agencies work together is through the sharing of information. Through investigations and the cyber crimes divisions, any information that is gathered is available to the organizations to help with any...

This crisis management plan will explore how to reviews the current legislation and policies that govern the military’s role when supporting law enforcement in a domestic terrorism crisis and highlights some of the issues confronting the U.S. government. To fully understand the military’s role in domestic crisis response it is necessary to explore existing national level structures and response options prior to the involvement of military forces. (Terrorism and the Military’s Role in Domestic Crisis Management, 2003) Crisis management is predominately a law enforcement function that manages the resources necessary to prevent or resolve a terrorist incident. Current U.S. government terrorism response policy is contained in presidential directives. Among other matters, these directives address National Security Council structure and federal agency crisis response roles when responding to a domestic terrorism incident.
