‘The summary of the rules of work’
The thing I like about this book is that it is stating what may seam obvious; yet, there is something in the way he explains it and puts it to you that makes you forget you know this already. So I was not sitting in that chair think "yes, I know". I was thinking something more like: "Yes, I know that but I also know I fail at that". So, I'd say it's unfair to label this book as states the obvious and then the end.

For some people, work's a breeze, they glide effortlessly through all the office politics and back stabbing, always saying and doing the right thing, getting raises, getting promotions, getting results. What do they know that everyone else doesn't? The rules of work. Those rules are surprisingly easy to learn and once you know them, they're equally easy to live by. Now, Richard Templar's brought them all together in one place like the quick, irreverent The Rules of Work, A Definitive Guide to Personal Success. So many things that I have learnt from this book. But what I like the most is that this book really teaches me to take a look at myself in the mirror, to know myself, learn about myself, and judge myself before I judge someone else. Teaches me how to take care of myself in terms of performance, attitude, the way of thinking, etc. Also, it gives me more knowledge of what I or could I say we... must react while working for a company. It explains what the importance of Blending In. is Where each corporations and companies all around the world has it's own what is so-called the 'Corporate Culture’, this book tells you how to adapt with the culture and how to cope with problems that may occur. Overall.... it is a good book to develop yourself and to broaden your knowledge about the working lifestyle. After all, Knowledge is Power. I like this book very much.

To be successful and not just good at job one must follow a definitive code which is what this book outlines. The premier golden rules tell you to get your work noticed, to never stand still, volunteer carefully, carve your own niche and always under promise but over deliver. Know something that others don’t, commit and enjoy whatever you do, have a right attitude and never let anyone know how hard your work is. Outward appearances count a lot. Therefore dress well, cultivate a smile, have a firm handshake, exude energy and confidence, have your own noticeable style, take care of personal grooming, be attractive and cool and whenever you speak or write do it well. For success you must plan. Be sure of long term as well as short term wants. Study the existing system or conditions and accordingly develop a game plan. There must be an objective and your role should be clearly spelt out. Evaluate your strength and weaknesses and identify key times and events. Anticipate for possible threats and be on the look out for opportunities. You must not gossip or go bitching. Stand for others and be liberal in your genuine compliments. Be cheerful, positive, polite and a good listener. Learn to identify truth and the whole truth. Cultivate support group, friends and contacts. Know others’ motives and, if possible, their games. Don’t use offensive words, gestures or postures. Know the ethics and legalities of your job industry. Set personal standards. Never lie or cover up for anyone else. Maintain records Learn corporate culture, speak, dress and behave accordingly. Understand social protocols, office hierarchy and authority. Never disapprove of others and avoid herd mentality. Remain a step ahead, cultivate diplomacy and understand and learn to handle opposition. Grab opportunities and make the best of everything.
The only problem I can find with the book is it is too short. It does only...err... 52 minuets long. I was having so much fun listening to it I was highly disappointed when it ended. I want more.
Well, that's about all I can say about the book. I hope you will consider reading, as it is a wonderful read and even if - like me - you would not consider reading a life coaching book you could still give it a shot; that's reading: you have to try all the genres to find the best books.
