1. Phillip Island is located south-southeast from Melbourne cbd. 2. The aim of the fieldwork investigation is to look at geographical characteristics to Phillip Island including social, economic, environmental political and technological features to the area. Also looking at management strategies to the island, the spacial interaction, spacial association, and change over time. 3. Phillip islands dates back to 40,000 years to the Bunurong tribes, the original inhabitants of the Western Port region. Phillip Island was named after Arthur Phillip whom was the first governor of New South Wales in 1788. In the same year, Phillip Island was visited by George Bass in January, in which he became the first European to visit the island. George entered the western port bay from a trip from New South Wales in a whale Boat. He then returned to the island with Matthew Flinders arriving at Rhyll and calling it “Snapper Island”. A memorial of the arriving is located at near the pier of Rhyll. Church Hill Island which was discovered in 1798, later named by James Grant, was the site of the first European settlement in Victoria. Phillip island is also known for its motor racing history. The circuit was created with the island roads and was the original Australian grand prix in 1928 until 1935. In 1956, the circuit was constructed into a grand prix circuit which held the Armstrong 500. The event then located to Bathurst in 1963, over a period of time evolved and became the Bathurst 1000. The circuit then closed in the late 1970’s to be redeveloped and re-opened in 1989 and held its first international event the Australian motorcycle grand prix (moto gp). Today it begins to cater to the Superbike World Championship, V8 Supercars and the Australian Drivers' Championship. 4. Social: people whom visit the island are overseas tourists. The island is also visited by motor racing fans as the Phillip Island circuit hosts racing events yearly such as V8 supercars, and Moto GP. The island is also known for retirees coming to live at the Island.
Economic: The money that the island brings in comes from the tourist attraction such as penguin Parade, seal watching cruise, Maze'N things, and the chocolate factory. It also brings in money from the events at the grand prix circuit.
