“If you believe, you can achieve”
“The American Dream” concept started many centuries ago. When foreigners came to America, the land of hope and opportunity, they all got settled in. Some earned a lot of money and some went from poor foreigner to poor American. In America there is so much inequality when it comes to rich versus poor. That is why America is the only land where it’s possible to have an “American Dream” concept. Take for instance here in Denmark. Whether we like it or not the society won’t allow people to stand out because of the Jantelov. According to The American Dream, anything is possible if you put your very heart and soul into it.
The idealistic vision of the American Dream also assumes that people are not discriminated against on the basis of race, religion, gender, and national origin. Take for instance Arnold Schwarzenegger. As a boy he dreamt about being big in the way that people would listen to hear what he had to say. He also dreamed about being an American. All he knew was that America was a wonderful country. He was a young, poor Austrian man when he came to America. He dreamt about being the best in the world at bodybuilding, and after 5 years of hard work, he became Mr. Universe, the best built man in the world. He took business classes in economics, accounting and math. How does one achieve the American Dream? The answer undoubtedly depends upon one’s definition of the Dream, and there are many from which to choose.
People’s visions of the American Dream have changed over the years. At first some people want fancy cars, some people want a luxury house and some want to get rich, but now it’s to have a roof over your head, your loved ones intact, food on the table, being able to put your kids through college. The material things are pretty much gone, and people start realizing that The American Dream is far from reality. I agree that for some, The American Dream might be real, but you have got to work really hard for it to become reality. Barack Obama for example is the first person in the American history to become a black president, but he also worked hard on achieving his goal.
At first, many were quick to judging him, saying he was a fool for even trying, but quickly they learned that black people are just as smart as white people.
The American Dream is for me is a dying dream. You always hear about how bad the American society is. Crime is rising day by day. Now police are being called out to public schools at the drop of a hat. All over America, very young school children are being arrested and marched out of their schools in handcuffs in front of all their friends. For example, down in Georgia, the police were called out because a 6-year-old girl was throwing a tantrum. The police subdued her, slapped handcuffs on her and hauled her off to the police station. More and more Americans live on the streets, and only a small handful of the population achieves their goal of becoming something big, and the rest has just got to suffer from their failures.
The American Dream is crumbling away.
