INTRODUCTION

Present day is sometimes referred to as the “Era of Electronic Gadgets”.
Almost every person in the world own a gadget except for those people who do not have enough money to buy one. Even kids nowadays use gadgets for playing instead of going outside with some friends. Electronic Gadgets creation is one of the biggest step of the human kind towards a bright future. Gadgets are present in everything we do, from the simplest thing like taking notes up to the most complex things like making machines. Gadgets can be a form of communication to other people or socializing, from texting by using mobile phones to emailing or chatting through social networks. Electronic Gadgets are big deal to everyone, in every hour, every minute and every second people use gadgets. These are mostly the life of the people at the present times.

Before gadgets were created, technology or electronics are something that you cannot carry around easily. The earliest computer took a form of a cabinet making it so big and hard to carry around. Cameras were big with their own stand and too different from what we have now that at our first glance, we can state their difference. Clocks and alarms were two different things before except for the “Grand Father Clock” which is so big and is often seen today in horror movies because of its appearance and monotone sound. Notes would be on papers that we would take a lot of time to find. There are a lot more different technologies from before but the ones stated are the ones that people used the most today. Everything before was big until the time that gadgets were invented by people. Now, computers are smaller than its cabinet form and some even take the form of a tablet which is very convenient.
People would just bring their “Ipads” and “Tablets” and they would have a computer ready beside them. Camera, clock, alarm and notes now are together in a gadget we call as “Phones”. There are different more technologies from before that are recreated to a smaller structure and because of this great change, people were more present and active in using gadgets. We use gadgets today for different things like our studies, presentations and entertainment.

Electronic Gadgets are immeasurable these days. To some, it is a rational device use for daily use of people’s lives. To some, these causes the changes in what is happening in the phases of life. Since Modern Gadgets are a hit to the citizens, it may be adults, young adults, children, but mostly it has an impact to teenagers or students. Gadgets are one of the most versatile inventions of man because we use gadgets not only for one purpose. It is really helpful for us because it makes life easier and comfortable. Nowadays we can cook rice by simply plugging in our rice cooker and turning the switch on. We have things like alarm clocks, timer, notes, mails, contacts,
G.P.S., social media and calendars all in one single phone. Gadgets may have a lot of advantages; its disadvantages are still present. Some people use gadgets to harass other people. Some use it to cheat other people. Some are distracted by it so much that they are procrastinating. Gadgets, like other inventions, have its own pros and cons.

One of the most used and popular gadget today is a “Smart Phone”. Smart phones are complex phones that have almost the same functions of a computer. It has installed applications that people use on a daily basis. These applications include messaging for communication, calculator, clock, alarm, notes and music. Smart phones are very essential for anyone today because you can have easy access to information, easily contact your friends and love ones and you can use for your work and studies.
Almost every student today owns a smartphone. It is very seldom to one without it.
Students use their smartphones for a lot of things like playing games, accessing the internet and for researching. Some students spend most of their time using it and some are not. Some are using it only for entertainment and some are for studies.
Smart Phone really does have a lot of good effects on students but the bad effects are still there and inevitable. For which in that purpose, the researchers are doing this study to cite out the effects of Modern Gadgets to students study habits.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aims to determine the effects of modern gadgets towards the study habits of Grade 10 students of Montessori de Sto. Nino of Meycauayan, Bulacan in school year 2015-2016
Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions: 1. How many hours do they spend in using gadgets and hours spent in studying? 2. How many types of modern gadget are present with them at home? 3. What do they use the most? 4. What is their purpose of using gadgets? For studying or entertainment? 5. Do they have applications that they use for studying? 6. Do modern gadgets distract them or help them? 7. Do modern gadgets relieve the stress of students in terms of studying? 8. Do Modern Gadgets affect student’s performance? 9. Does every Grade 10 student have their own gadget at home? 10. Do they still get high grades even though they are using gadget?

HYPOTHESIS

“There is significant association of modern gadgets toward the study habit of Grade 10 students in Montessori de Sto Nino of Meycauayan Bulacan” is the alternative hypothesis that the researchers have formulated.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The purpose of this study is to provide significant information both for the students and the parents leading to a concrete solution and awareness of the value of Modern Gadgets into the study habits of students.

This information includes the advantages and disadvantages of Modern
Gadgets, the positive and negative effects of different software applications, an actual survey of sections A & B of Grade 10 students of M.D.S.N. and inputs for the parents on how to control and supervise the study habits of their children, resulting to an improved and consistent study habits and higher grades for the students.

Moreover, this study will provide recommendations on how to evaluate the performance of the students in accordance to the proper use of gadgets, understanding the needs of the students for quality education, and more importantly, educating also the parents to take seriously the effects of gadgets on their children.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

This study covers the significant effects of modern gadgets to the study habits of Grade 10 students of Montessori de Sto. Niño. This covers 15 students from the Grade 10 – Psalms and Grade 10 – Proverbs each as the respondents in Montessori de Sto. Niño of Meycauayan, Bulacan during the school year 2015-2016.
This study covers the habit of students when studying with a mobile phone and tablet.
“Habit” meaning the way they review their lessons and do their assignments. The researchers will not change the instructional tools of the teachers, nor it will tackle the issue of modern equipment and facilities of the school.
This study does not cover other technologies like television set and computer set.
It is only focused on gadgets that are mostly used by teenagers today.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

1. Association- correlation, connection, a mental connection between ideas. 2. Modern- civilized, updated, upgraded, of the present or recent times in current fashion. 3. Gadgets- technology, (mode) entertainment, modern tools, small mechanical device. 4. Habits- a settled way of behaving, something done frequently and almost without thinking. 5.
