The Bad Girls Club

When I was a child, there was always a good family TV show on like Full House, Family Matters, Cosby Show, and Boy Meets World. Today the younger kids do not have anything like those positive television shows to look at, but they do have the reality television show like the Bad Girls Club (BGC). The Bad Girls Club first aired on December, 5TH, 2006; its original plot was to try to help seven behavior problem women change their self destructing antics. The series has done anything but rehabilitate the women. The women on the show have negatively influenced the younger viewers with the binge drinking, the promiscuity, and the constant fighting. The show fails to show the outcome of the actions the women on The Bad Girls Club will have to face, but instead it paints a picture that there are no real consequences to the actions.

The women on BGC range from twenty-one to twenty-seven, so they are all of the legal drinking age. Drinking would not be so bad if the women would do it sparingly, but the women on the show have taken drinking to a completely new level and have become alcoholics. They seem to wake up drinking and go to sleep drinking, and there is always the one girl who loves to drink but cannot contain herself if she is drinking. BGC shows clips of the girls out at clubs with bottles of alcohol in their hand having a grand time. My younger sister, who views the show, has said, “When I am twenty-one, I am going to party and drink just like the girls on the BGC!” The fact that she idealizes the women was shocking. It may look like a lot of fun to be out partying like they do, but the younger viewers do not see the after effects of the actions. On season one Ripsy had gotten so intoxicated that she blacked out. When Ripsy did black out, she started beating on her roommate Kerri. The other roommates tried to get Ripsy to stop beating on Kerri, but nothing seemed to have been working. Nothing seemed to work until Ripsy falls into the swimming pool. The segment was extremely entertaining but also sad at the same time because Ripsy could have easily drowned in the swimming pool. The younger viewers like my sister thought the way she was acting was one of the coolest things ever, “I could have done all of that, and not remember any of it in the morning? That is so awesome!” My younger sister failed to see the seniority of Ripsy’s actions. I explained to her that drinking in that manner could cause liver damage and emotional damage and that it could also lead to unwanted sexual advances.

Every season most of the women come in with a seemingly perfect relationship, and it never fails that they, “Hook UP,“ with someone else and regretting it. People with no real life experience would look at the women “hooking up” and think that in order to have a relationship with a man then she would have to be “easy.” The hooking up sessions make me feel uneasy because I know that being promiscuous like that has very serious consequences such as, STD’s, unwanted pregnancies, the fact that no man could ever really want anything to do with you because, you have been with so many other men. When the women go out to the clubs, it’s very rare that someone is going to end up brining a complete stranger home with her from the club. Most people from the age twenty-one through twenty-seven don’t go to a different club every night, let alone bringing a stranger home with them. When I see the actions like this, I can’t help but think of the shows younger viewers, and the fact that it is women like this who they look up to and want to be so much like. The show does not show all the pregnancy scares or the trips to a local free clinic that the women’s promiscuous actions come with. The younger viewers only get to see how much male attention the women actually get, even if it is for only that one night. On an episode in season four, Kate was madly in love with her boyfriend back home, and made a vow not to “hook up” with anyone while she was there. Everything was going well until she deiced that she was going to hook up with her best friend Trish while she is there visiting. The guilt of hooking up with Trish was eating at Kate, and she told her boyfriend that she did in fact hook up with her best friend. The two of them broke up but eventually got back together. Although there was some what of a reperciousion to Kate’s actions, the show still failed to show that there are always real repercussions to every action. When the girls are not drinking or being promiscuous they are fighting. When the show originated back in 2006, there were two rules you must keep a job, and you can not get into a physical altercation with your roommate. The second rule seems to have been done away with. Instead of talking it out like a normal adult, the women on BGC seem to want to just fight it out. Tanisha and Jennavecia decided to fight it out over juice in season two. What type of message is that sending to the youth? When I was on you tube one day, I ran across a skit called The Bad Kids Club. The skit had kids impersonating the fight between Tanisha and Jennavecia; they were pulling each other’s hair, cursing, and kicking at each other. The girls could not have been any older than ten, and the magnitude of fighting was unbelievable. It is so many different fights that you can see on you tube. All of the fights seem to steam from something like someone said something smart or had taken something from them, just like the women on the bad girls club. The show has influenced young women into fighting over just about anything. The young girls do not realizing that they could end up in jail with an assault charge on them, because they never see the women on BGC going to jail.

Reality Television has become a cult classic. Shows like The Bad Girls Club have become instant hits because people feel that is what really happens in life. The Bad Girls Club has had a negative effect on the young viewers because they feel they can drink, be promiscuous and fight all the time with no type of negative effect. The show is originally to try to help the women become productive strong females, but it has brought down the younger viewers because they are now imitating and idealizing the self destructive women. If the women on the show are being idealized, I would hate to see what the world would be like in fifteen years.

Women in the Media

...images of women and girls who are typically white, desperately thin, and made up to the hilt—even after slaying a gang of vampires or dressing down a Greek phalanx. There has to be said that there have been some strides that have been made in which the way that women are portrayed in films, television, and even in magazines, and this has been over the last few decades. The presence as well as influence of women behind the scenes has also grown in many ways that were not so before. But have we come far enough. So my question is Has the Portrayal of Women in Today’s Society Health Role Models to Our Young People of Today? With the television shows that are aired on a day to day basis it’s hard to expect the portrayal of women to be any less than what it is…..negative. Is there an obligation for the media to show young people a more positive image of women or is it a duty of the parents? The notion of common good does not just happen. Establishing and maintaining it is the responsibility of everyone. Maintaining the social conditions from which we all benefit requires the cooperative efforts of all citizens. These efforts pay off with the media assuming a frontline responsibility to promote the awareness and shared understanding of common good as well as emphasizing that most social problems grow out of widespread pursuit of individual interest (Egde, 2015). We live in a world where the media has a vast amount on our youth and young people. Shows like Bad Girls Club, Housewife (of...

Violence

...Why is violence so prevalent amongst the youth in the black community? If you ask three people, 9 times out of ten, you'll get these three answers: 1) It’s the TV, 2) It’s peer pressure, or 3) It’s their environment. I beg to differ. All three answers are constituents as to why the homicide rate is at an all time high amongst the youth! However, I blame the parents! You have children who know lyrics to Chief Keef songs, word for word, but they don’t know their government name; you have 14 year olds who can tell you everything that happened on the Bad Girls Club, or any reality TV show but they don’t who the hell Emmett Till or Anne Frank (two iconic 14 year olds in American history) is; you have parents who are so quick to buy their children the latest designer shoes or clothes, yet these are the same children who can’t excel in school to save their life! Parents, we are our children’s first teachers. The training starts at home. If you wait for your child to start school to start trying to teach them the basics like counting, ABC’s, and how to write their name, they’ll already be behind. If you are solely depending on the educational system to teach your child anything, they have already failed! When they are two years old, they should be engaging in activities that consist of learning colors, numbers, or alphabets. I don’t see that! Instead, I see young parents and young grandparents turning on music, teaching the child how to pop their behinds or getting a kick out of them...

Reality Tv: Negative Stereotypes Of Bad Girls Club And Empire

...Reality Tv is one of the most popular hobbies used by children and adults, but who thinks about the negative stereotypes ? It can cause people to start living by its lifestyles, also it can make children think these events are real, lastly reality Tv can take a lot of attention away from our actual lives. Reality Tv and the real world aren’t as the same as people think they are. Reality Tv can cause people to start living by its lifestyle. “Bad Girls Club” and “Empire” are two shows that shows this. These shows might make people think whenever they see the actors physically fighting, cursing, and starting unnecessary drama they can do it too. According to buzzle.com, “Humans are a bunch of manipulatable species where the media feeds off this ever-growing trait that lies within us all, where half the time we aren’t aware of what it’s doing to us. “ Furthermore this quote explains that when people are on these shows, sometimes they have no idea that they are being changed slowly but surely....

Big Bad Bullies Analysis

...Clubs Coming To Help Big Bad Bullies: Chayzée Smith’s Story Everyday, millions of innocent kids are bullied around their school. They are pushed around, physically abused, and can’t do anything about it. The bystanders around them decide not to help either. The daily routine is the same: Get to school quickly and get out even faster, to avoid those kids. The thing is, that they don’t tell anyone, or get help. This is what it was like for elementary student, Chayzée Smith, except worse. Usually, Chayzée would leave quickly and run home as fast as he could, sometimes though, he would try to take a chance, and stay for basketball or table tennis at the school, but “the violence of the neighborhood always found its way into the after school program” (Smith). That was the other problem. His neighborhood was a rough one, always getting involved in drugs or violence. Smith would get beat up, or pushed away from anything and everything. Sometimes, he would even see things he shouldn’t or be involved in bad drugs. These issues abused Chayzée in many ways, and he couldn’t find a solution to this mess (BGCA). After a couple of months, teachers started to realize what was going on in Mr. Smith’s life. They realized what Chayzée was going through. So they decided to stand up in...

Motorcycle Gangs

...Motorcycle Gangs: From Outlaws to Any Joe Throughout history any person that rode a motorcycle was considered an outlaw or some sort of bad ass. The beginning days of motorcycle gangs weren’t the everyday Joe that had a nine to five job. These people were in their own class and were feared by anyone that crossed their path, but times have changed. Now anyone can ride a motorcycle without being labeled as a deviant outlaw. From the 1950 to today, the world has changed their perspect on a person that rides a motorcycle. Motorcycle gangs began after the veterans of World War Two returned home. Many of the return veterans started to ride motorcycles to feel the excitement that replaced the emotions from the war. On 4th of July 1946 the American Motorcycle Association held a motorcycle event in the small city of Hollister, California. At that time there were two motorcycle gangs that were know as the Pissed Off Bastards of Bloomington and the other gang was known as the Market Street Commandoes (CTGIA). The small city was filled with bikers and the police department consisted of only seven officers. The night got rowdy and the officers arrested one of the P.O.B.O.B. The gang ordered the police to release their fellow member and when they refused, the gang tore the city apart. This one event created history for motorcycle gangs because from that day on their will always be a July 4th run and the one percent image came into play. The Pissed Off Bastards of Bloomington...

...For this course project I have decided to choose The Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta. Today in 2014 I currently stay in the outskirts of Atlanta, GA and I am a product of The Boys and Girls Club. After I graduated from Clark Atlanta University in 2006, I then started a paid internship with The Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta. From past experience until this very day there needs to be more strict background checks implemented when it comes to the basis of hiring volunteers and employees. If a stronger hiring process is not implemented I really feel that this location of the Boys and Girls in Metro Atlanta will be in a crisis because the wrong individual(s) were perhaps mentoring young adolescents that shouldn’t be. If this continues this could ultimately crush the dreams and aspirations of young mind. Today in 2014 there is a new generation when it comes to technology, and it’s improving each and every day of our lives. So it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take opinions and suggestions from the public within the community area of Metro Atlanta. Atlanta isn’t really a big place for the most part, and everybody knows everybody as it may seem scarily strange. These surveys could deliver information about the needs of The Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta, a comments section for the public, and ideas and information that they can share to better the individuals that mentor the young adolescents within the community. So the question is are the children safe and can parents...

Farm Girl

...| Farm Girl | Assignment 1.1 Summary and Personal Response | | | | The essay that I’ve chosen to write about is “Farm Girl” by Jessica Hemauer. The author’s most important point is how she can’t have the same life as her friends. Since she’s a farm girl, she has to make that a priority in her life. Regular students make their social lives their main focus. For Jessica, doing her farm chores is more important than extracurricular activities in school. Although she’d rather play a sport or join a club; milking cows comes first in her life. “I hate this!” (Roen, Glau, & Maid, 2011, p. 83). Jessica doesn’t like being a farm girl. That statement is said by all the siblings every morning on the way to put on clothes. Jessica states, “It seems our daily lives operate in shifts, not like a real family,” (Roen, Glau, & Maid, 2011 p. 84). Jessica and her siblings wake up five hours before school to do chores, while other students wake up one hour earlier. Jessica hates being at lunch because she can never engage in conversations with her peers because it’s always about clubs before school and sports after. At some point in Jessica’s life she has a turnaround of events in her favor. “In eighth grade …I become the basketball team’s starting point guard,” (Roen, Glau, & Maid, 2011 p. 85). Jessica finally gets what she has been asking for. She becomes the point guard on her basketball team. It proved difficult because it took a great deal of her time to balance...

The Black Leather Jacket

...case with the black leather jacket; at one time in history the black leather jacket reflected a statement of the bad boy, the rebel, the greaser, and gangs. The black leather jacket stemmed from the original World War II Brown Bomber Jacket. Pilots were issued a standardized brown bomber jackets also know as the A-2 flight jackets. These jackets were made out of horsehide and lined with a heavy fleece, designed to keep the pilots warm due an open cockpit and changing climate conditions experienced while flying. Another flight jacket that was issued in the service was the B3 Bomber Jacket made out of sheepskin. These bomber jackets became poplar with not only the pilots, but all different divisions of the US Military. Military men could have patches stitched on they jacket representing their rank and your division. Wearing theses bomber jackets not only represented a strong military man, it represented power and prestige. Of course the bomber jacket became even more popular with a 1957 movie “Night Passage”, staring Jimmy Stewart, wearing a brown bomber jacket. But when the movie “The Wild One” hit the movie screens in 1953 staring Marlin Brando wearing a white t-shirt, a pair of blue jeans, and a Black Leather Jacket, this was when the black leather jacket made it day beau! Marlin Brando played a character named Johnny who was the leader of a motorcycle club. In the movie Johnny and his gang ride along the open highway, free as birds, they decided to stop in a quiet little...

Tgirls

...Back stabbed.. After friday night's bad experience at the club, I was told that the genetic girls (which were brought in to augment our numbers as the ts girls are notoriously hard to get to come in) would be de-emphazied. Not fired, just de-emphasized, and only brought in if circumstances absolutely demanded it. For the last two Friday's we had plenty of tgirls, but still we had a bunch of genetic girls, because no one was keepng a schedule. So hardly any of us made even our house fees, and everyone had to scramble to find people to flirt with/lap dance with, whatever it is that we strippers do. This last friday, on a day that was very tense as another co worker's job was on the line for basically pissing off another tgirl outside of the club (a bullshit reason), I just happened to go up to the wrong guy. It was nearing the end of the night and I hadn't made any money, but apparently the guy I went to was there to see one of the cis-gendered females. When I apptempted to flirt with him, I got the whole "You're a guy" and "I'm not a faggot' stuff, and it quickly escalated from that. I was like "why are you even here?" which is the question I had to ask. I also learned later that earier, someone overheard him telling me to "go home" If a TS strip club is a safe haven for ts girls, and THEIR ADMIRERS, then the customer base is comfortable with being there. I threatened to quit over this and I was told that the genetic girls working the night shift would be let go, or de-emphazised...

Why Is Homework Bad For Kids

I had several kids tell me they didn’t have homework and leave after their 20 min of reading was done. After about an hour they returned saying they had homework. I sat down with them and started to work on it but they acted like they didn’t know anything about the topic that was being covered. The topic was words that end with –ing. The children had to write sentences using the word and then take a spelling quiz. When they were writing their sentences I had them draw a picture of what the sentence was about because I knew that they loved to draw and color. So they got through the sentences quickly so that they could color. After they were done coloring it was time to do the spelling...

Sport

...Barriers to participation for 3 target groups and all the stages of the sports participation pyramid I am going to explain the barriers to participation from 3 different target groups at each stage of the sport development pyramid. My 3 target groups are Over 50s, Women and Young people. Over 50s is a target group because there is more over 50s playing sport now than ever before, this is because people are living longer and wish to keep fit and active. Young people is a target group because if people can get young kids active and give them a chance to do sport at a young age then it is more likely that they will carry on with sport and go up through the sports participation pyramid. Women is a target group because although traditionally women participate less in sport, the number of women in sport has gone up in the past few years. From 2005 to 2008 the overall women participating in sport went up from 2.57 Million to 2.81 Million (12.3% increase). Also more women are playing male dominated sport like Rugby and Football. Target group 1 – Over 50s At the foundation stage for Over 50s there is not any facility’s that will teach the basic skills for a sport. For most sports such as Crown green Bowling participants will go straight into the participation stage. In the participation stage for Over 50s a barrier would be cost of travel. If a person cannot drive then the cost of the buss maybe too much and if it is too far to walk the participant may have to stop playing...

Summary

...Strayer University | Summary | “Farm Girl” | | Alli Brown | 4/19/2012 | | This is a summary of Jessica Hemauer’s “Farm Girl.” This was a narrative essay where the writer, Jessica Hemauer, talks about her childhood growing up on a farm. I believe that the audience for this essay was more than likely a teacher or professor. The tone was not set for the essay as a whole. Depending on the part you were reading in the essay, the tone goes through many different emotions from angry to respectful and patient to sad and depressed then to happy. My emotional response to this essay was that growing up on a farm must be very hard on children. I felt bad that she and her brother and sisters had to get up so early to do chores around the farm, while other children their age were still soundly sleeping in their warm, cozy beds without a thought of waking up anytime soon. There are many points of this essay that stuck out to me personally, however, the main point was very clear; that growing up on a farm was very difficult as a child but, made her a more mature, responsible and strong willed adult. Jessica and her brother and sisters had a very strict, time sensitive routine every morning before school in order to get all the various chores and jobs done as well as shower, get dressed, eat breakfast and make it to the bus for school. The farm had to come first before anything else; it was the entire family’s first priority. The children had to face harsh weather conditions...
