...ABSTRACT Bus service is the main mode of transportation in Chennai. By this service, public are able to travel to anywhere and any places in Chennai. This leads to increase in bus routes which cause confusion to bus users. Although, at present, many routing information systems have been implemented but none of them provide the passenger travel information that they require. As a consequence of the shortages of such significant information, the current bus information services cannot fulfil users need. Current bus information services are based on GPS and operated in licensed frequency band which requires a high implementation and operation cost, these systems are used to provide travel-time approximation only. This paper proposes a system, Real Time Empirical System of Bus Service that can provide valuable information not only bus routes, also provides information of buses based on destination to the passengers. This system is aimed to reduce the operative cost of the existing system. The implementation of Real Time Empirical System of Bus Service involves use of Zigbee and RFID communication technology. This system is operated in 2.4GHz which is ISM band and no external network backbone is required for transmission and reception. iii TABLE OF CONTENTS CHAPTER N o. ...‘system’ is weak. Bus service is limited and the schedule is unreliable. The ‘identified’ bus stops are ridiculous. And the buses do not go out into every area. Buses only run every hour to half hour during weekdays. It is even worse when they come every other hour on the half-hour on weekends. There appears to be no rhyme or reason to the hours and minutes scheduled. If you miss the bus, then good luck to you, you will have to wait another hour until the next one. At times, even when you are ready and waiting the only bus zooms right by you. If you are not lucky enough to live in a major city in CT, then the bus that goes out to your town or small city stops running in the evening by 6 PM. It is the most inconvenient time ever. If you miss that bus, then you are forced to hitch a ride or catch a taxi. And who can afford a taxi every day? Not knowing where the bus stops are plays a huge role in missing the bus. The bus stops have bus stop signs only in the cities. If you live outside one of these areas then you must guess where the buses might stop. And, considering that CT is mostly made up of small towns and villages, this is no small thing. There are alien symbols, i.e. poles or trees with a white paint stipe around them. One is supposed to surmise that this fading, poorly exhibited, painting is a bus stop. Now, if you are just moving into the area, how would one know that is a symbol for a bus stop? I did not find out that it was a mark for a bus stop until I looked...

Would need to have a job to earn enough money to be able to get a car and have less time to get to the appointment. Any type of public transportation doesn’t run in your timing, to get to your destination you need to work around their schedules. For the bus drivers they stop at every stop and that would take about 2-3hrs at the latest. At the main transit centers before you get on the bus they would take their break and you don’t know when they would allow you to aboard and don’t know when you would depart as well. The timing of the bus arrival shows in a schedule book, but they would not come on that exact time. Also you need to make sure you don’t miss the last bus to get back home. If you have a night shift or taking night course and goes up to 10pm that is when you worry, because you would have to get some form of transportation. Story

...that day, we made detailed plans about the trip and decided to take subways and buses to get there. Since the bus only available on 8 or 10 am in the morning. We also use the Google map to estimate the amount of time we need to speed on the way to the buses stop carefully. It shown we need to spend 1.5 hours to get to the bus station. So in June 1, we got together at 6 o’clock at the subway. But unfortunately, it took us more than 1.5 hour to get to the bus station. Actually, it took us around 3 hours. Obviously we were late for the bus. So, what should we do next? Wait another 2 hours to take the next bus? 2 hours seems too long for us so we chose to take another bus, which can take us to a transportation junction. We expected to change to another bus at there or at least we can take a taxi at there. However, when we got there, it turns out that there’s no legally taxi, but instead, there are many illegal taxi driver persuade us to take their car. It seems unsafe to take their cars, so we try to find other buses to get to the destination. It was really hot that day, and we walked around for almost an hour but didn’t find any other buses station. We felt so desperate about the transportation system in that city and finally decided to wait for the original bus we planned to take. It was eleven o’clock at that time. After an hour, the bus came. As I sit on the bus, I though it must be the end and expected to get to the destination after an hour at around one p.m. At that...

Service Quality of Public Transport in Singapore

...in using bus services. This report will analyze these gaps and how bus operators recover their service quality and satisfy their customers. 2.2 Summary of the key points of the article Recently, The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has allowed the first privately run feeder bus service to boost the network. This is good news for customers who are suffering of waiting for the bus for a long time at crowded bus stations during the peak hours and using congested buses. Customers are happy with the improvement of bus service. Previously, customers were frustrated because of insufficiency of bus service in peak hours. They have to wait from 30 to 40 minutes. But from now on, customers will be more satisfaction with the improvement of bus services in Singapore. Bus frequency has improved by 1 to 5 minutes instead of 10 to 13 minutes previously. The “peak period short service” 912P reduce waiting time and ease congestion. Extra supply of bus service will always be helpful with customers in reducing the crowded situation in some buses and reduce waiting time at the congested bus stations. 2. ...especially bus stops. A small town needs all the support it can receive. A big boost of that support comes from bus stops. They allow for savings economically and delete any inconvenience of the citizens not having transportation to work. In order for any small community to be successful; there must be jobs and people willing to work. This is just a harsh reality of life. In Ottumwa, Iowa, there are plenty of people with work and plenty of people willing to work. There is only one problem that is restricting these motivated people from work. That is that there is very little public transportation. Some people need this in order to get from one place to another, especially if it is to their work. It is understood that we are living in an age that most people have vehicles; the key word there is "most." Not everyone has a vehicle that they are blessed with. In a mostly middle class and poor community that is notably true. From personal experience, living in Ottumwa for twelve years, I have seen that this is accurate. How does a community expect to strive in having a strong core if they cannot provide the simple use of public transportation? The amount of benefits that comes with building more bus stops in this town is extraordinary; to the point where it would not make sense to get it done. The benefits range from, economic savings, not only to the community but also the citizens using bus stops, to making the environment safer by decreasing co2 emissions. There is one bus stop in the...

Air Pollution

...the presence of acid rains and different kinds of human diseases. In my opinion the amount of cars is increasing dramatically and this is definitely the cause of congestion and air pollution. There are more vehicles out on the road and smog is a major concern. To tackle this phenomenon, there should be possible ways to encourage people to use the public transport. Public transport is the best solution to this problem. The question has often being raised as to what the use of public transport can encourage people to use their car less. Firstly, the government should have an integrated system of bus. In cities like Kuala Lumpur, standard timetabled bus routes covering shopping centers, hospitals and universities should be visible at the bus stops and not to deny that there will be on-time service with good connections as well. Example, in cities like Paris, information on local bus and train services are easily accessible by placing timetables and maps at visible locations around the city. Amenities, such as on-board refreshments services and wireless Internet access can be another plus point to use the public transport. Funds should be allocated in order to make these services cheaper and more reliable. It is undeniable people use their own transport to take them...

...thorough bus and demanding on bus transportation has increase over the years. Among all public transportation services, bus service is the major transportation used by public. Especially in a busy town , bus is the most easy, convenient and cheaper transportation. Many reasons that people take bus instead of driving own vehicle such as traffic jam, heavy parking fee and lack of parking slot in destination. However, bus transportation service has very poor transportation information system nowadays. Bus user do not know the exactly arrival time for a bus, but only know the scheduled arrival time. Compare to train or flight transportation system, bus transportation service doesn’t have a proper system to track all buses position and the actual arrival time in every bus stops. These problems occur because current bus service system did not apply time tracking technology to track on each buses on the road and also lack of a platform to update latest bus traffic information to bus users. In the past few year many developer develop different type of application which give convenient to the society. There are many versions and update after the release of original version of android. 1.2 Problem Statement One of the problems occurring in current bus service is bus users did not know exactly what time a bus will arrive, but only know the scheduled arrival time. Bus users needs to wait for a bus without knowing what time the bus will arrive actually. Sometime, bus users might...

My Ride on the Bus

...My ride to high school was the worst experience ever. Never again will the PVTA bus be my transportation to high school. There will always be people who will ruin your experience when you wait for the bus, ride in the bus, and exiting out the bus. Regardless of how many miles it is from to home. Walking would be a better transportation than taking the bus. Walking to the bus stop was the easiest thing to do, but when it comes to waiting for the bus, there will be problems that will surface. Once I arrive to the bus stop, I find myself repeatedly checking the time on my phone to notice that the bus is ten minutes late like always. People around me waiting for the bus start complaining how late the bus is, you keep telling yourself that any moment that bus should pull up any minute now; however, as those minutes that pass by, no sign of the bus coming. The sound of a lighter igniting really puts me in an uncomfortable state when hearing the flick sound three times, and seeing the person lighting his cigarette up like a birthday candle. Then proceeds to inhale the cigarette, finally exhaling the fumes that looks like a poisonous cloud that looked like death. The worst part about it is that the poisonous cloud was coming after me like if it sense my fear. The cigarette fumes hits me when inhaling the toxins; in addition, making me feel sick like if lung cancer was not my worries before the bus comes. ...Memoirs Revised A Missed Blessing The day I missed the blessing due to pride was a hot and pressured day. I really needed to get home from work. I was tired. I did not have any money to catch the bus. I left work praying to God for assistance. I walked to the bus stop in faith that God would provide me with a way home. I got to the bus terminal and there were plenty of people waiting for the bus. I stood there feeling desperate, tired and hot. The longer I stood waiting, the unsure I became of my blessing of receiving a ride home. I began to feel like a hooker at the bus stop all dressed to kill in high heels. I became really paranoid that people were viewing me the same way. I was ashamed of my professional appearance looking like a ploy to attract men on the side of the road. I was at the bus stop for about an hour waiting for God to answer my prayer. The paranoia was increasing in my heart and I had forgotten that I’d already asked God to bless me. It was extremely hot and the devil had taken my mind on foolish paranoia. I just wanted to get home. I did not ask anyone for help. I was just about to give up. The minute I felt hopeless, an elderly lady walked up to me. The elderly lady handed me a bus ticket. I was ashamed. I asked the elderly lady what was the ticket for? The elderly replied do you not need a ticket? How are you going to get home? I told the elderly lady I did not need the ticket.
