Challenge idea
My love for a clean environment has made me join several volunteering environmental cleanup programs as well as clubs pursuing the cause of a beautiful ecosystem. The motivation for maintaining the integrity and assuming the responsibility of taking leadership is the perfect reason that encourages me to get involved in community clean up. When I considered the challenge, the activity that came into my mind was to organize a 3-hour community clean up around our area. Through this activity, I would be able to interact with my community members directly and help the community realize the benefits that come along with a clean environment. A healthy environment does improve the physical neighborhood. Besides, it creates opportunities for individual investment, social fellowship and pride to the people in the neighborhood. It will not only create a nice place to dwell but also portrays a better landscape for professionals, prospective employers, and other community visitors by providing the best health benefits.
A clean-up process begins with proper organizing and planning of the program. I can only manage through identifying key stakeholders (through stakeholder identification process) to form my committee. The 3-hour process will involve organizational representatives, businesses, and individuals who I will invite including city representatives, the city council, and the local media. Since community improvement involves private and public property, I will check with the owners of these properties before implementing the exercise. The cleanup is to have carried with four teams each having a team leader with Beautification and Clean-Up Checklist. The goal is to have the community beautified, and prospective investors familiarize themselves with the area.
Implementation process
On April 12, 2016, the team leaders arrived at the agreed venue 30 minutes before the rest of the members arrived. Thus facilitating the distribution of equipment and tools that were required to facilitate the process. Those painting buildings having worn paint were provided with necessary materials while those that were tasked with cleaning the river and opening some drainage system assigned accordingly. All the materials had been voluntarily donated by the participating organizations and some businesses that had vested interest in investing in the community (Donovan 27). I led the team of painters and managed to paint three social halls in the community within three hours, as the rest of the team leaders successful led their members in accomplishing their duties. After 3 hours, all the teams assembled at one hall that was the central headquarter where they received water and some refreshment. All leaders did report success despite small occurrences of minor injuries that were handled through the first aid kit that each team had. It was interesting that community members turned out in large numbers including the elderly in the community who expressed smiles throughout the whole process. As people took time to interact, I could see them happy and satisfied through their constant laughter. One old man requested the community to carry similar activities every three months to allow them to engage and give back to the community.
Summary
There was a complete change in the appearance of the area. The area looked pleasant with the drainage system flowing smoothly and all the dustbin boxes labeled accordingly. I felt the sense of fulfillment and enrichment on realizing the impact I had created to my community. The cleanup program had enriched the neighborhood, and it had provided an opportunity for people interact and create new friends. I realized that a few hours of providing help would provide a lifetime change and opportunity, which is the benefit of being a volunteer.

Managing Crowds in Innovation Challenges

...Managing Crowds in Innovation Challenges Arvind Malhotra Ann Majchrzak Crowdsourcing for innovation is typically conducted as an “innovation challenge.” Despite the popularity of innovation challenges, there appears to be a growing consensus that innovation challenges do not succeed at generating solutions with competitive advantage potential. This article presents three ways in which managers can assure that their innovation challenges are fruitful: foster different crowd roles to encourage contribution diversity; offer knowledge integration instructions and dual incentives; and offer explicit instructions for sharing different types of knowledge. (Keywords: Creative Collaboration, Innovation, Creativity, Crowdsourcing, Open Innovation) I nnovation challenges, also known as innovation tournaments and idea contests, are a manifestation of crowdsourcing.1 When running an innovation challenge, a company posts an open call on the Web to solicit solutions from a diverse range of individuals. For example, GE’s Innovation Challenge solicited new technologies for its sustainability product line and a Lego Challenge asked the public to suggest unique Lego products as new revenue streams. By 2017, over half of consumer goods producers are projected to employ crowdsourcing for 75% of their consumer innovations.2 Despite the popularity of innovation challenges, there is a growing consensus that the current manner in which innovation challenges are implemented fails to...

Innocentive Business Model

...INNOCENTIVE is an “open source innovation” company founded in 2001 as a venture company within Eli Lilly & Co, a major pharmaceutical company. It is based on the idea that valuable ideas come inside or outside the company, and is distributed widely in markets and around the world. The business model of crowdsourcing pioneer INNOCENTIVE is quite similar to a question-answer web forum on the web. Main stakeholders in this model • The “Seeker”- The Company, organization or individual who is looking for an answer to a problem or a question. • The “Solver” – Individuals who are willing to answer to the questions or problems, usually giving a good solution based on experience or their idea • The “Observer” –Though this does not appear on their company page, INNOCENTIVE acts as a moderator to guide the two parties. The “Seeker” (it can be a corporation, governmental entity, nonprofit organization or partners) registers to INNOCENTIVE site and sets: 1. The question or problem to ask, 2. Set the amount of reward when the problem is answer to the “solver” 3. And, set the deadline, by when the problem would like to be solved. The “Seeker” will also pay a fee each time the problem is posted. The amount of the reward will be decided by the “Seeker” and INNOCENTIVE, based on such criteria as how effective the answer/idea was, or by how much profit it would bring to the “Seeker”. On the other hand, the uniqueness of this model is that the “Solver” and the “Seeker” remains...

Shakespeare's Anne Hathaway

...'Carol Ann Duffy's 'Anne Hathaway' presents a challenge to stereotypical ideas of women as the weaker sex.' How far do you agree with this statement? Carol Ann Duffy's 'Anne Hathaway' calls into question whether or not Carol Ann Duffy is challenging the stereotypical ideas of women as the weaker sex. In this essay I will be analysing Duffy's 'Anne Hathaway' and making my own assumption as to whether or not Carol Ann Duffy challenges stereotypes or not. Carol Ann Duffy uses 'Anne Hathaway' to challenge the stereotypical themes that have been picked out by female literary critics, these themes are: the immoral and dangerous seductress, the eternally dissatisfied shrew, the cute but essentially helpless woman, and the unworldly, self-sacrificing angel. In Duffy's poem, Anne Hathaway doesn't fit into any of the stereotypes of a woman. In the Elizabethan times, the husband owned all possessions, which included the wife and all possessions that she held dear to her, in other words, the husband had complete control over the wife and the household. Duffy's poem 'Anne Hathaway' doesn't challenge the stereotypical ideas of women as the weaker sex, as Shakespeare has to bequeath their marital bed to Hathaway, for her to cherish - “Item I gyve unto my wife my second best bed...” The husband owning the wife's possessions and herself, is stereotypical of the male patriarchy that was around in the Elizabethan times, that with standing, the same patriarchy can be found in today's society...

Why Was Luther Able to Challenge the Catholic Church so Successfully in the Years 1517-25 [30]

...the word of God. One year later, Luther published his ideas on how the Catholic Church could reform and make it into a more complete religion, these were the Ninety-five Theses. This was the start of Luther’s challenge to the Catholic Church. The most significant reason why Luther was able to challenge the Catholic Church so successfully in 1517-25 is because of the role of Luther, as he was the figurehead of Lutheranism and was very key to the challenge to the Catholic Church. Another significant reason why Luther was able to challenge the Catholic Church so successfully in 1517-25 is because of the response of Church and the Holy Roman Empire. Furthermore, the support of Luther made it easier for Luther to challenge the Catholic Church and so was an important reason. The role of Luther is the most important reason why Luther was able to challenge the Catholic Church so successfully in the years 1517-25. The Ninety-five Theses in 1517, the 1520 pamphlets and printing press were very significant factors in making the word of Luther more public to the uneducated laity about how the Catholic Church is exploiting them. The printing press helped Luther challenge the Catholic Church easily because Luther’s Ninety-five Theses would get copied and so more people would be able to read it and so they can understand Luther’s ideas and what his ideologies were. The Ninety-five Theses firstly introduced the laity into Luther’s ideas such as indulgences were wrong and the Pope has too much...

Solve a Problem Paper

...identify challenges and creatively find solutions to the problems created. In this paper, I will explain each stage in the creative process and will choose a personal challenge that I will walk through the creative process. There are four stages to the creative process that include searching for challenges, expressing the problem or issue, investigating the problem or issue, and producing ideas. In the first stage: searching for challenges, it is expected for challenges to be constantly thought about and searched for. The text book “The Art of Thinking”, it says that the importance of searching for challenges is reflected in the fact that you can be creative only in response to challenges that you perceive (Ruggiero, 2009). In other words, without challenges there is no need for the mind to be creative. The second stage of the creative process is expressing the problem or issue. In this stage, it is best to find an expression that will yield the most helpful ideas. When looking for the best expression, it is looking for the best way to identify the problem or issue in a question form. The third stage: investigating the problem or issue, is where necessary information is collected to effectively deal with the problem or issue. Lastly, the fourth stage: producing ideas, is the stage where ideas are produced to decide what action to take or what belief to embrace. There are two common obstacles in this stage that consist of the unconscious tendency to limit your ideas to common...

Benefits and Challenges Associated with Promoting Dialogue in Teams.

...believed “to produce thoughts that neither party in a relationship-nor any participant in a group, team, or network – could have produced alone.” (Eisenberg, et al., 2009, p.50-51). Promoting dialogue in teams will lead to new ideas and open communication, which lead to integrity in workplace. However, it faces challenges like people’s mindless communication, inability to express their opinions and perspectives, people having assumptions of what is “right” and inability to have a genuine communication. In this essay, I will discuss some benefits and challenges associated with promoting dialogue in teams. Dialogue is defined in the Merriam-Webster dictionary as “An exchange of ideas and opinions” (Merriam- Webster.com 2013). In a dialogue, members of the team freely express their assumptions, opinions and perspectives. Thus, a pool of distinctive ideas are formed and lead to new ideas that an individual could not have come up with alone. Consider a team of five with members from five different countries and backgrounds. When they get engaged in a dialogue, the participants would bring very distinct perspectives and opinions to the table, which will make the team members to view the matter from a very different perspective and help the team to think of new ideas. I have personally experienced the wonders of a dialogue in one of my high school group project when I was in a group which consisted of kids from different countries. While conversing about the subject, we learned that our...

To What Extent Did Luther’s Challenge to the Catholic Church Change in the Years 1517-1521?

...To What extent did Luther’s challenge to the Catholic Church change in the years 1517-1521? During the period of 1517-1521, Luther’s challenge and also his views towards the Catholic Church went through a series of changes. In chronological these are the main reasons why I think his evolution in ideas occurred: Luther being threatened by Cardinal Cajetan; Luther being questioned by Eck in Leipzig; His publishing of his 3 books in 1520 and his attendance at the Diet of Worms in 1921. On the 31st October 1517 Luther’s publishing of the The 95 theses was the backdrop to his challenge to the church and is what got everybody’s attention, in mainly focused in on the selling of indulgences was wrong (would not guarantee your entry to heaven and also morally wrong) and that sole fide (faith alone) would get a soul into heaven. Despite this was the first time his views had been published, there was no distinct change to his views it was only the fact that Johann Tetzel’s selling of indulgences in Germany had contributed to him publishing the 95 theses. However this was the first time his ‘Challenge’ to the Catholic Church was made to the mass public, which is very significant. Following on from his 95 theses, the Threats from Cardinal Cajetan and the debate with Johann Eck were the first real responses from the Catholic Church and a chance for Luther to show what he believed in. In 1518 Luther had been instructed to go to Rome to withdraw his theses but he refused and so the Pope sent...

Thinking creativity is thinking outside of the box, using your imagination and having originality. To keep the creative process simple there is stages to the creative process. The first stage is searching for challenges; usually challenges are not hard to find they come in the form of issues and problems that need to be solved. Everyone has problems and issue throughout their daily actives that need to be addressed. The Second stage is expressing the problem or issue, this is realizing the issues or problems exists and then start thinking of the multiple ways to solve the issues. The third stage is investigating the problem or issue; an individual will start gather information and data to help solve the problem or issue. Throughout these processes one might be gathering new information or uncover old information to help with investigating. The last stage is producing ideas, an individual needs to have enough gathered information and ideas to be able to decide what and how to solve the problem or what action needs to be taken. This is the stage that brings everything together to make the action happen. One of the biggest challenges that I am facing on a personal level is trying to have my teenage...

Ap Psychology Vs Mainstream Psychological Science

...Although several people believe that science provides a “solid foundation” for the science, I don’t believe that there will ever be a solid foundation for the mainstream sciences. There are many problems with each of the mainstream psychological sciences and people believe that following the rules and principles of science will solve these problems. I would say that they are indeed “lost on a sea of doubtable ideas”. I would only be able to put my faith into “harder” sciences with more solid and valid foundations that have less problems. Dr. Jung: Malia, I do believe that this nihilistic view of straying away from the sciences would be regrettable because you are assuming that mainstream psychological scientific methods are not as applicable as the “harder” sciences . Some of these “harder” sciences, such as the natural sciences, are rarely questioned about its foundational ideas as much as psychological sciences. Before rushing into this mindset, I would suggest thinking about if these sciences are better off without a solid and factually valid...
