Consumers should know the benefits of online shopping and brick-and –mortar shopping. If they take the time to know the differences and similarities it may save them some hassle of figuring out which way to shop. There are many differences and similarities between online and brick-and-mortar shopping, but the variety of choices, convenience, and price ultimately make up the consumers mind. Online vs Traditional Shopping

...Assignment 05 - Comparison-Contrast Essay November 30, 2014 The Differences between Traditional and Online Shopping The differences between traditional shopping and online shopping are numerous and varied. Each has its' own advantages; each has its' disadvantages. A few points to consider are: comparison shopping, inspecting an item, returns, shipping, item availability, and convenience. Online shopping offers the ability to compare prices quickly and easily. By simply checking competing websites, you can find the best price in a matter of minutes. With traditional shopping, you would have to drive to different locations to check the prices. Then you would have to return to the store with the better price. Traditional shopping does offer the chance to inspect an item before purchasing it; clothing, for example. You could try the item on in the store to see if it fits correctly. In contrast, when shopping online you have to guess at the correct size, and wait for the item to be delivered to try it. Perhaps you do purchase an incorrect size, or the item has been damaged. With traditional shopping, you only have to drive back to the store where you bought the item, and return it for an instant refund. If you bought it online, however, you have to ship it back to the retailer, and then wait for the refund. You may also have to pay the return postage costs. If you choose traditional shopping, you are able to take your purchases home immediately; but you may have to...

Comparing Shopping Online with Traditional Shopping.

...Comparing shopping online with traditional shopping. Shopping has evolved though out the years starting with exchanging goods, then money was introduced and the modern world is now doing it via computers. The concept of online shopping can be extremely appealing but also very disappointing, were as traditional shopping might be somewhat taxing but more satisfactory. Comparing online shopping with traditional shopping can shed some light on the pro and cons of both. Shopping usually involves getting dress, drive to a mall, walk around for hours and getting back home exhausted. Some people love it, and some hate it. On the other hand, with online shopping one can simply sit back and decide on a product or item of interest and ‘click’ order. “If one were to stoop to word play, then ‘Window shopping’ has acquired a new meaning altogether” (Vadlamudi, 2013). Based on a survey done in April 2013 “75% of Consumers Prefer Customized In-Store Experiences Over Online Shopping”. Shopping in a mall can take up to two hours or even longer if coffee stops and lunches are included. Usually when people go to a shop they essentially know what they want to buy or have a good idea what they are looking for. The downside of this is that the store does not always have exactly what they want or the correct size and color is not available. But if that same person were shopping online, they would have a greater variety of stores available, which not necessarily is in the same country as they are...

What Drives Consumers to Shop Online? a Literature Review

...shop online? A literature review ˜ ´ Tonita Perea y Monsuwe, Benedict G.C. Dellaert and Ko de Ruyter Maastricht University, Maastricht, The Netherlands Keywords Information media, Internet, Purchasing, Shopping Abstract While a large number of consumers in the US and Europe frequently shop on the Internet, research on what drives consumers to shop online has typically been fragmented. This paper therefore proposes a framework to increase researchers’ understanding of consumers’ attitudes toward online shopping and their intention to shop on the Internet. The framework uses the constructs of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) as a basis, extended by exogenous factors and applies it to the online shopping context. The review shows that attitudes toward online shopping and intention to shop online are not only affected by ease of use, usefulness, and enjoyment, but also by exogenous factors like consumer traits, situational factors, product characteristics, previous online shopping experiences, and trust in online shopping. 102 Introduction Despite the slowing penetration of regular Internet users, the number of consumers using the Internet to shop for consumer goods and services is still growing (Forrester Research, December 2001). Research from the GfK Group (2002) shows that the number of online shoppers in six key European markets has risen to 31.4 percent from 27.7 percent last year. This means that 59 million Europeans use the Internet regularly for shopping purposes...

The Influences of Social E-Shopping in Enhancing Young Womens Online Shopping Behaviour

...BEHAVIOUR The influences of social e-shopping in enhancing young women’s online shopping behaviour Charles Dennis, Brunel University, UK* Alesia Morgan, UltraSoft Technologies Ltd., UK Len Tiu Wright, Business School, De Montfort University, UK Chanaka Jayawardhena, Loughborough University Business School, UK Abstract The background to this paper is that shoppers, particularly women, are motivated by a variety of different reasons, including socialising and enjoyment. Despite the growth of Internet retailing (e-retailing), these social needs are largely unmet in e-shopping. In the high street, women do most of the shopping but online shopping (e-shopping) tends to be dominated by male shoppers. At the same time, social networking is growing fast and is especially popular amongst young females. The purpose of this paper is to draw on prior research about why people shop in order to explore the concept of social e-shopping, based on combining e-shopping with social networking. We propose that shoppers, particularly young females, will prefer social e-shopping to traditional e-shopping. We carried out a qualitative study for our propositions with a comparison experiment, semistructured questionnaire and focus group, to compare a traditional e-shopping website with a social e-shopping one. The findings reveal that young women prefer social e-shopping sites. Both utilitarian and hedonic young adult female shoppers found social e-shopping enjoyable and useful. However, although...

...retailers who is current suffering or almost closing just because the online shopping has long been the public recognition (Berman, 2016). But from my point of views, I do not believe that the traditional retailing store could be totally replaced by the online store, but more and more retailing store face to closing. So there are some reasons for those store who were beat to closing by the online shopping. First, mostly they do not have a clear target or the market strategy. Such as the Brent Coope who owns his own business at Westfield’s Albany mall. He paid almost $250,000 a year just for the lease his shop. The online store may just need to pay 1/1000 of that payment. Their strategy is to sell the most fashionable brands like Superdry. But those brands are everywhere online now. So that makes his store are not competitive. Second, the online shopping and the traditional shopping provide different service to the customers. For example, the online shopping could spend less time for the customers and they might also get a better price than the traditional store. But the traditional store could provide some service which could not be replaced by the online shopping such as if you want to buy a shirt, online store has the picture could show the shirt, but nobody can try the picture shirt. So how does the customer know if it suitable for him or not? Finally, the decline is not inevitable, on one hand, the traditional store could provide more working opportunity for the people who hunt...

Ecommerce and Internet Shopping

... | Paper on ecommerce and shopping ECOMMERCE AND SHOPPING ON THE INTERNET ABSTRACT With businesses seeking to seize the momentum of social media and social networking, technology-enabled social commerce has emerged to combine the power of online social networking with shopping. This study examines an emerging area in E-commerce, i.e., social commerce. Extending the online consumer behavior typology, this study categorizes online consumer behaviors into three types: transactional, informational, and social. While traditional E-commerce supports the transactional and informational aspects of online shopping, social commerce fulfils the social aspects of shopping, and potentially enhances the informational aspect as well. This research examines the online shopper as a prospective user of an emerging social commerce platform, the social shopping website, which are sites designed specifically to support social interactions while online consumers shop. The study augments the Technology Acceptance Model with constructs that enhance the specificity of the model to the social shopping application of social commerce. The model was empirically tested and supported. The results provide empirical evidence to support the importance of distinguishing the social aspect of shopping from the information and transactional aspects, as well as the potential advantage to using technology to...
