The First Rally

It was a cold morning in Johnston, New York. Cady Lee Stanton wakes up from a deep sleep, to get to her tutor in time. She puts on her skirts and petticoat on and runs to the foyer. Her dog, Garnet, run up to greet her. She pushes the dog aside and runs through their Victorian age house to the foyer. Down the marble stairs through the kitchen, she could make it today. The old-timey clock beeps signaling 8 o'clock just as she runs through the door.

“Just in time Cady, though you might be late yet again.”, her tutor says. Cady greets her and apologizes for her past tardiness. Her tutor Mrs. Bradley explains how she must be perfect, punctual, and a bunch of other things she couldn't care less about. She had to live up to the women she was named after, her grandmother, Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Her mother was a prominent figure in the equal rights for women movement.

She grabbed a sign her mother has brought and run backstage to watch her mother speak. As she listened to her mother speak she, she realized her mother was incredible at public speaking. She has never heard her speak like this, her mother was rallying these people for her cause and it was wonderful. Cady watched in astonishment for a while until her mother was done speaking.

“I'm ready to go now, Cady.” Her mother said.

“Wow, mom you were amazing up there I've never seen anything like it,” Cady replied

“Dear that’s my job,” she said

This sent Cady's mind soaring. Cady had found her calling her, career, she knew what to do with her life. In the years that followed, she attended a college and majored in political science, at the time this was a real achievement because girls often weren't allowed in colleges.
