The 5 People you meet in Heaven 82 years old. That is the age whom Eddie died in attempt of saving a young girls life. In a flash, Eddie re-appears at the place of his death, the Ruby Pier. However, there is something distant about this place of roller-coasters and carnivals. The only people at the fair is him and a blue man. The Blueman. The Blueman is the first person that Eddie has met in Heaven. The idea of the Ruby Pier (that Eddie has grown up in) being his Heaven repulses him and left him confused. “Heaven?” he questions himself, “ridiculous.” Though, the fair wasn’t his heaven. It was the Blueman’s heaven. The Blueman informs Eddie that he will meet 4 more people that he has crossed paths with in his life; this will help him understand

Mitch Albom's The Five People You Meet In Heaven

...A couple weeks ago, I read the novel, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, by Mitch Albom. This piece of literature takes place in both Heaven and Earth. On Earth, Eddie, one of the main characters, visits Ruby Pier, mountains, numerous weddings, a river, and the battlegrounds where he fought a war. The main character, Eddie, is killed when he turns 83 years old He wakes up in Heaven to go on a journey to meet five people who were connected with him in ways that he didn't anticipate. The Blue Man, The Captain, Ruby, Marguerite, and Tala, are the five people that Eddie meets in Heaven. They will all teach him lessons. Eddie's father, Eddie's antagonist, used to work at Ruby Pier, and he was not supportive of Eddie and his brother. In...

5 People You Meet in Heaven Literary Analysis

...Tyler Dunaway The Five People You Meet in Heaven Literary Analysis The story The Five People You Meet in Heaven was a detailed and entertaining story, it was written by Mitch Albom. The main character is Eddie and most of the story is written about what happened after Eddie dies in a tragic accident. He learns five lessons about not just his life bur life in general, as he meets five people whose lives intertwined with his. From sacrifice to forgiveness Eddie learns that every life has an important meaning and purpose just as much as a persons death. So in this literary analysis I will be dissecting and critiquing this book using characterization, theme, and the authors use of the literary device of irony. In the book Mitch give Eddie many character traits that make him a very round protagonist. An example of these traits is Eddie’s heroism. Eddie is heroic because there are at least three times that Eddie tries to save someone else's. In the process of saving someone's life he puts thoughts of his own life aside. One of the times Eddie tries to save someone's life is when he tries to save the little girl from the piers life. This heroic action cost Eddie his life. The second time he tries to save someone's life is when he is in the Philippines and him and his comrades are being held hostage and are in the mines while Rabozzo was sick. Their captors were messing with him while Eddie tried stopping them “He’s sick!” Eddie yelled, struggling to his feet. Crazy Two slammed...

5 People You Meet in Heaven Summary

...that heaven is not a destination. It's a place where your life is explained to you by five people, some of whom you knew, others who may have been strangers. One by one, from childhood to soldier to old age, Eddie's five people revisit their connections to him on earth, illuminating the mysteries of his "meaningless" life, and revealing the haunting secret behind the eternal question: "Why was I here" Personal Details Collection Status In Collection Index 10 Read It Yes Links Amazon US Product Details LoC Classification PS3601.L335F59 2003 Dewey 813/.6 Amazon.com Review Part melodrama and part parable, Mitch Albom's The Five People You Meet in Heaven weaves together three stories, all told about the same man: 83-year-old Eddie, the head maintenance person at Ruby Point Amusement Park. As the novel opens, readers are told that Eddie, unsuspecting, is only minutes away from death as he goes about his typical business at the park. Albom then traces Eddie's world through his tragic final moments, his funeral, and the ensuing days as friends clean out his apartment and adjust to life without him. In alternating sections, Albom flashes back to Eddie's birthdays, telling his life story as a kind of progress report over candles and cake each year. And in the third and last thread of the novel, Albom follows Eddie into heaven where the maintenance man sequentially encounters five pivotal figures from his life (a la A Christmas Carol). Each person has been waiting for him in heaven, and...

The 5 People You Meet in Heaven

...The Five People You Meet in Heaven, the main character, Eddie, meets five people, and each person teaches an important lesson. Eddie learns all about sacrifice, forgiveness, and the meaning in life. Each of these lessons greatly impacts Eddie. When Eddie meets his old commanding officer from the military, he learns about the importance of sacrifice. The Captain teaches Eddie about the necessity of sacrifice throughout life. Eddie was upset about the sacrifices he had to make but The Captain explains, “You didn’t get it. Sacrifice is a part of life. . . . It’s not something to regret. It’s something to aspire to,”(93). Eddie did not understand that sacrifice is a good thing, but this made him realize that all his losses happened for a reason. At the time, Eddie could only think about the things he lost, but The Captain says that they are not really gone. “Sometimes when you sacrifice something precious you're not really losing it. You're just passing it on to someone else,” (94). This made it feel better because it meant that his captain didn't die for nothing. His captain died making sure that the rest of the men got home safely. Eddie was finally able to accept that all the bad things that happened, happened for a reason. When Eddie meets Ruby in heaven, she...
