Ánalisis de “The Gift?”
It was as if I erased myself, or was it that I was being erased?”
Las oraciones largas como: “I know it was a gift because…. o “I remember the time my mother” reflejan una acumulación de alguna tensión emocional o mental y un nivel de inquietud.

Gift Giving

...Gift Giving The human service field is a field of helping. When people are helping people, it is natural and in some cultural cases, required to offer gifts of appreciation. There are many fine lines that divide the boundaries of gift giving within the helping industry. The value of the gift must be considered, the policies of the agency that a helper is employed by as well as the expectations that could potentially be attached to that gift. Some agencies have policies that avoid this dilemma all together and state absolutely no gifts will be given or received from clients. Other agencies will state that in order to avoid any insults or culture disrespect, a helper is allowed to receive a gift and ensure the client that the agency thanks them and the gift will be shared with the staff. Gifts from clients can have many or no strings attached. Some gifts come genuinely from the heart and are simply a cultural way of thanking someone for their help. Other clients however could have an ulterior motive behind the gift and consider the acceptance of the gift from the helper an indication that their relationship just took a step in a different direction. Whether or not a helper has permission to accept a gift, they must have the knowledge and capability to identify the boundaries of each client and the gift. In the revised version of the American Counseling Association Code of Ethics, it states in section A.10.f. “Counselors understand the challenges of accepting gifts from clients...

...My Spiritual Gifts Part 1 [pic] Eunice T. Payne June 5, 2014 Revised August 13, 2014 INTRODUCTION When I was asked to go online and take a spiritual gift test my first thought was, (“Lord what the world is coming to”?) We really have to rely on the internet for everything these days?” Then I thought hey why not take it what can it hurt, I’ll go on and humor them. As I started to read the questions I felt like the questions needed more substance or needed to be worded differently; not realizing the devil was trying to discourage me from reading what I was about to find out. \ By the time I finished the test it read PASTOR, FAITH, GIVING. Each word had a meaning or explanation for each one. I looked real hard at “Pastor” and laugh then I called my son who is a minister and yes he’s from the old school like his momma. I said son I just took this test and explained to him what is was for. Of course he had the same reaction as I did when I was told about the site. He laughed. Well as we went on in conversation I gave him the end results and said now what I look like being a Pastor. I mean I have been around a lot of spiritual gifted people for most of my life and have been told by several that there’s an anointing on my life or that my light shines bright and have a spirit of victory, but never did I hear anyone say I would be a pastor or fit those shoes. Then a voice said you have been ministering to people young and old for over 20 years and you don’t...

The Best Gift

...Gifts Gift is defined as the transfer of something from a one to another person without the expectation of a payment from the receiver. The idea of gifts is to make others happier or to erase sadness from their face. This essay will include the reasons of giving a gift, the anniversaries that’s required a gift and how I felt about a gift that I received. First, gifts are a wonderful thing. It makes relationships get fonder and ease the pain. Gifts could be given for forgiveness or a way to show kindness. Also, it motivates people to achieve their goals if they were promised to receive a present due to their efforts. As an example, my dad used to motivate us to focus on school and do our best to achieve high grades. He knew that if he promised us with something that we want to have eagerly, the result by then will be success for both of us. Second, I have grown up in a family that appreciates the meaning of gifts. There are many anniversaries that`s required a gift. For example, my sister has got married, I bought for her a beautiful necklace and then she got pregnant and gave birth to a little angel, so I gave her a little lovely dress for her daughter to show how much am happy to be an uncle. Also, graduation from high school is a huge thing towards a one future. Therefore, every person graduate from high school, his family blows a nice party for him and he receives a lot of nice gifts from the people who loves him. Gift of Magi Analysis

...English 1102 “The Gift of the Magi” “The Gift of the Magi” is a very touching story written by O’Henry. This story is often told during the Christmas season and teaches the true meaning of gift giving. The main characters in the story are Jim and Della. They are a very poor married couple that lives in a ragged flat with only two prized possessions. Della's beautiful, brown, knee-length hair is one of the two great prized possessions of the poor couple. Her hair was gorgeous and she loved it. The other is Jim's gold watch that was passed down from his grandfather and father. Jim also loved his watch. The story opens with Della counting one dollar and eighty seven cents. It is one day before Christmas and she wants to buy her husband Jim a gift. She cries hysterically because there was not enough money to buy a gift. The story continues as Della walks to the mirror and gains her composure. She looks at her hair, pulls it back, and walks out of the door. Della walks to Madame Sofronie's hair goods shop, and she sells her hair for twenty dollars. She now has twenty-one dollars and eighty seven cents. After Della sells her hair, she goes to several different stores looking for Jim’s gift. She looks for several hours until she finds the perfect gift. The gift she finds seems to be made perfectly for Jim’s watch. Della finds a platinum fob chain. As soon as she saw the chain she knew it was perfect. The chain seemed to be like Jim with its quietness and value. The new chain...

Box 1066 Blindern, NO-0316 Oslo, Norway Abstract: We have studied gift giving at Christmas among 50 graduate students in Norway. The students invested more the closer the coefficient of relatedness. However, partners ranked highest, which is natural for people at the start of their reproductive career. All students gave to their parents, siblings, and children, most gave to their grandparents, and only a third gave to some, but not all, of their genetic aunts/uncles. Twenty percent gave to first cousins, and none to second or third cousins. Similar patterns for gifts received were found. There were also sex differences (e.g. women had larger exchange networks than men), and birth order effects. Firstborns spent more on relatives than laterborns. However, middleborns gave more to their male friends than both firstborns and lastborns. We conclude that the results are consistent with theories of kin selection, reciprocity, sex differences and birth order effects. Keywords: gift giving, kin selection...

...Sherri L Hull CHMN 201-D05 04/07/2014 Spiritual Gifts Paper Part One: What are my top 2 spiritual gift? Do I agree with the results? Why or Why not? The top two spiritual gifts from my assessment were Administration and Teaching, with Pastor/Shepherd receiving the same assessment score. Based on my background in Purchasing and Job Costing, I would have to agree with the Administration score; however, Teaching and Pastor/Shepherd has me somewhat confused. The descriptions of each of these, and how they appear to go hand-in-hand does; however, make sense. According to the assessment descriptions, if a person scores high in Teaching but not in Pastor/Shepherding they probably would not make a good Sunday school teacher; therefore, receiving the same score arouses my curiosity what does God see something in me, that I do not. My position as a job costing supervisor has taught me to account for each material being used in the manufacturing industry. Along with my former purchasing responsibilities, both positions back up the assessment score in Administration. The assessment further defines my score in Teaching/Shepherding, as a person who enjoys research. At times this person can be technical. This would represent the details of any given work or research being done, everything needs an explanation. It also defines the person as one who needs to be accommodating when deadlines near and pressure increases. This skillset may become beneficial to the calling I believe...

Gift of the Magi

...The Analytical Magi William T. Long ENG125 Instructor Kurt Mueller January 5, 2013 In O. Henry’s short story, “The Gift of the Magi”, a young couple must give all they’ve got to give each other the best Christmas present possible. The wife (Della) needs a gift for her husband(Jim). She has very little money, but a priced possession in her hair. She has her hair cutoff to pay for a gift for her husband (a gold chain to match his priced gold watch). When Jim gets home, she finds out he sold his watch to get combs for her beautiful hair(cited in Clugston, 2010). This creates a kind of paradox where both parties wanted to get a special gift for the other, sparing their most precious items to do it. Both presents are now irrelevant, but it shows each have a deep love for each other. The theme, tone, point of view, and characters in this story are all special and work together to make this story. Each facet of the work helps build and support the story from start to end. The point of view in this story starts off as third person limited. In the majority of the story the reader is only let in on Della’s world. The reader follows the path on how she feels over the anguish of not having enough money to buy her husbands present. It then goes on to tell how she got the money and the hardships involved there-in. Toward the end of story, her husband comes home. We still don’t see much into his world even after he shows up. For example, the story...

Spiritual Gifts Paper

...Allan Ritch CHMN 201-D01 LUO March 31, 2014 Spiritual Gifts Paper PART ONE: What are your top two spiritual gifts? Do you agree with the results? Why or why not? My two dominate spiritual gifts as determined by taking the “Spiritual Gifts Analysis” on www.churchgrowth.org are (1) Administration and (2) Exhortation. I completely agree with this assessment. Having been in the administration field most of my adult life, in one capacity or another, I see that this gift has had an influence upon me. I am definitely a take-charge type of person when it comes to something that I am enthusiastic and passionate. The analyses pointed out that people with this gift tend to count on others to take care of the small details and are gifted delegator. I am definitely that type of person in most situations. I do not like to micro-manage others or be micro-managed. I tend to take on many tasks myself just so I can control the outcome and results. I tend to lack patience at times when a detailed explanation is required and expect that others already know how and what the goals are. The gift exhortation is a direct complement to administration. While administration directs and organizes, exhortation teaches, counsels, and encourages. I have not always seen this gift within my character, although as I look back I can see that this gift has been in the development stage for quite some time. The analysis advises against interrupting people and allowing pride to be the primary motivator...

Gift Giving Research Paper

...Megan Coburn Professor Tabitha Kenlon ENGL1111 19 March 2013 Giving gifts to get what we want- Gifts with an Ulterior Motive For thousands of years communication has been construed ambiguously. Regardless of whether it’s what we are feeling or what we need, the fact remains that humans have a hard time conveying everything they want to say during conversation (with verbal speech) and, likewise perceiving it. With regard to these factors, I wish to examine the underlying motives behind the process of gift giving, throughout the centuries, in different contexts and across various cultures. Individuals offer gifts, symbolically, for many reasons and in varying circumstances. Gifts may be distributed ritually, or in such a way that they distinguish hierarchies. They may also be used as a sign of affection when wooing a partner and are frequently utilized in business relations. It is important to note that there exists a difference between gifts given to other people and gifts given to oneself. A gift giving behavior is defined as a “process of gift exchange that takes place between a giver and a recipient.” (Keng, Kau Ah, Wang, Quain, and Mohammed Abdur Razzaque, 214) In the opinion of Schall, “culture is a rule-based phenomenon,” in other words, to be considered actively apart of a culture one is required to observe and conform to all of the implied and tacit rules that society deems apropos. Circumstance or situations are an important aspect of these untold rules that...

The Psychology of Gift Giving

...The Psychology of Gift Exchange Mayet, C. & Pine, K. J. University of Hertfordshire Internal Report 2010 Gift giving is a social, cultural and economic experience; a material and social communication exchange that is inherent across human societies and instrumental in maintaining social relationships and expressing feelings (Camerer, 1988, Joy 2001). Research within different disciplines to gain insight of gift giving behaviour has continued for over forty years. Gifts are bestowed in celebration of key life events, a medium for nurturing personal relationships, to encourage economic exchange and to socialise children into appropriate behaviour patterns (Belk, 1979). Obligations within a community require that individuals are required to give, receive and to reciprocate (Mauss, 1954). In his essay the French anthropologist-sociologist Marcel Mauss (1954), presented a theoretical analysis of the gift-giving process, that was based on his examination of giftgiving amongst various primitive, secluded, or ancient societies. He concluded that giftgiving is a self-perpetuating system of reciprocity and summarised three types of obligations which preserve gift-giving: 1. The obligation to give. 2. The obligation to receive. 3. The obligation to repay. The requirement to give may be ingrained in religious or moral necessities, with a strong need to recognise and maintain a status hierarchy and to establish or maintain peaceful relations, or merely the expectation of reciprocal giving...

The Gift of Fear

...“The Gift Of Fear,” a psychology book written by Gavin De Becker, is an extremely useful and informative read. It gives valuable advice about how to act upon human intuition, how to recognize threats, and defines what real fear is and it’s purpose. I found the book to be extremely interesting. This book provided me with a sense of understanding on violence and fear and I feel much better prepared when it comes to recognizing dangerous situations. My favorite part of the book was the warning signs to know when a stranger is a potential threat. This was fascinating to me because I’ve been told since I was just a little boy to beware of strangers. But with all these warnings about strangers I had never been told how to recognize when a stranger was being genuinely helpful and friendly, or trying to harm me in any way. I found some of the warning signs intriguing such as a method called Forced Teaming. Stranger’s use forced teaming to create a sense of trust. They team themselves together with their victim by saying “we” and making it seem like they’re closer than they really are to their victims by pairing them together. Other warning signs were fairly obvious such as Discounting The Word No. This means that the stranger won’t leave when you ask him to. However, something I did learn by reading about this was that if you let the stranger get away with discounting the word no just once you have given them control. They feel as if you are weak and can be easily convinced. The proper...

Holiday Gift Card Analysis

...Holiday Gift Card Analysis | | | | Gift cards are becoming a popular alternative to traditional physical gift giving. They offer the gift giver the ability to provide an option that not only satisfies their desire to donate to another person’s wellbeing, but also as a way of providing the recipient with the ability to choose their own gift. Christmas is an especially opportune time to increase the marketing of gift cards by retailers. With the knowledge that many people will be shopping for gifts; there is an abundance of opportunities to market the low-involvement purchase. Retailers use motivated reasoning, such as time and best-fit gifts, to convince consumers that gift cards are the perfect alternative to a traditional gift. Statistics show that gift card purchases are on the rise. Retailers realize that consumer decision processes concerning gift cards can be very beneficial. Many consumers tend to spend more than the actual amount on the card. They also benefit the retailers by being available in a multitude of mediums and locations. Though, there are also many detriments to gift cards. They often are unused and must be accounted for as unearned revenue rather than profits. It seems that gift cards offer the least amount of involvement when compared to other gift options. The approach-avoidance conflict consists of wanting to give a gift, but not wanting to exert the time/energy that is required to obtain it. The felt involvement required to select a gift can be...

Spiritual Gifts

...We were all born with gifts and talents. God gave these to every single one of us, making every single one of us unique. Some of these gifts we were born with; others can be developed over tie. Things like playing soccer, cooking, painting can all be developed by anyone over time. But if one was lucky enough to have these talents naturally, we call it a gift. But God also gave us another special gift. These gifts were assigned to us so we can help spread the gospel and further fulfill our duty within the church. They are called spiritual gifts. "The term charisma ("spiritual gift")... signifies redemption or salvation as the gift of God's grace (Rom. 5:15; 6:23) and a gift enabling the Christian to perform his service in the church (1 Cor. 7:7), as well as defining a special gift enabling a Christian to perform a particular ministry in the church." (Elwell, 2001) The spiritual gifts include: Woking of Miracles, Gifts of Healing, The Gift of Helpers, The Gift of Governments or Administration, The Gift of Faith, Apostleship, Prophets, The Gift of Discernming of Spirits, The Gift of Teaching, The Gift of Exhortation, The Gift of Wisdom, The Gift of Knowledge, The Gift of Tongues, The Gif of Interperetation of Tongues, The Evangalist, Service, Contribution, Acts of Mercy, and Giving. According to Galatians 5:22-23, "...the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."
