“I will destroy my enemy when they become my friend”, this is what Abraham Lincoln said when he

was still the president in the 1800’s. This is the same type of thing that S.E. Hinton was trying to write

about when she wrote the book The Outsiders. See in the beginning of the book, the socials and the

greasers hated each other, the the socials were always jumping and beating the greasers. But at one

point of the book PB and Johnny were jumped but Johnny ended up killing a greaser named Bob. And

the book transitions from that point on.

The reason Darry is a hero is because he gave up a football scholarship, free education, takes care of

Soda and PB, works two jobs so he has the money to take care of Soda and PB. The reason I think …show more content…
Also if he didn’t work two jobs Darry and

his brothers wouldn’t have the money for food, water, or education. And if he didn’t take car of soda

and PB they would probably go to a boys home also.

Johnny is a hero is because he saved PB from Drowning, he saved eight kids from a burning

church, and he kept everyone in the gang together. When Johnny killed Bob, he saved his best friends

life, and when he did that he took a life but also saved a life in the process. But after he killed Bob they

lade low, and while laying low they ended up having to save some missing kids in a burning church. So

saving those kids helps him repay his mistake of killing Bob. And if he never ended up keeping the gang

together, then they would all have no one to watch there backs and everyone would probably get

jumped one by one by socials for killing

...What is a hero? What does it mean to be one? The Outsiders is written by S.E Hinton published in 1967 by the Viking Press, the most recent edition was published in 2006. One or more Greaser(s) can be considered a hero, there are many examples such as; Johnny and Ponyboy saved children from a burning fire, Ponyboy stopped Two-Bit from telling off Johnny’s mom, and Johnny risked his life to save Ponyboy’s. Firstly, Ponyboy and Johnny were found in a very difficult situation, Ponyboy was being brutally drowned in a fountain by Bob the Soc, and Johnny was about to be beat. This was a very traumatic moment, during this Johnny was trying to figure out how to save Ponyboy, then he had remembered his switchblade and pulled it out. As Ponyboy was nearing death he stabbed Bob and Bob fell to the floor. A quote from that scene is “They might have killed you, and they were gonna beat me up.” Pg 57 Many argue this is self defense and many argue it’s not, but this clearly states Randy was coming after Johnny too, so it does fall under self defense. Not only did Johnny save Ponyboy’s life he risked his. That is the work of a hero....

The Outsiders Movie And Book Comparison Essay

...The Outsiders Book/Movie Comparison S. E. Hinton's story "The Outsiders" is a story the examines two different social groups in high school back in the 1960's. The book was such a big hit around the world that Francis Ford Coppola decided to make a movie out of it. When making the movie Francis didn’t want to leave out the little details that made the movie unique. There are many similarities and many differences between the book and the movie. My goal is to examine those similarities and differences and to look at the meaning behind the small details in the book and in the movie. One of the first similarities between the book and the movie was the 1960's setting. The book and movie both use old cars and the way the characters dress to express the story's 1960 setting. In both the book and movie the Socs drive new Mustangs and Corvairs, but the greasers drive old fixed up cars. "The Outsiders" book and movie both have a blue Mustang that is driven by the Socs. The Mustang represents fear and danger in the Greasers eyes, because whenever they see the Mustang coming they know something bad is about to go down. for his little brother, and that he wants Ponyboy to succeed in life. Another relationship represented in the book and the movie is between Johnny and Dally....
