Taken place in a Hispanic and Latino neighborhood located in Chicago, Sandra Cisneros's The House on Mango Street centers around the main character Esperanza. Esperanza explains her life growing up through vignettes that she writes. She shows her struggles such as not having the perfect house, or no one pronouncing her name correctly. She shows her strengths too such as making new friends and learning in school. All of these have shaped her identity but, through stories Esperanza has created her identity as a writer. To begin with, one of the ways that writing stories has shaped Esperanza's identity is being able to express herself. " I make a story for my life, for each step my brown shoe takes... I like to tell stories. I am going to tell you a story about a girl who didn't want to belong"(109). When Esperanza writes you can see that she can be herself without feeling insecure. She describes the person she wants to become and who her parents want her to become too. She can identify who she is by her writing style and how she portrays herself throughout her stories. In all, Esperanza has the ability to freely express herself through her stories. …show more content…
I let her read mine."(84). Through her vignettes it has helped her create more friendships and interactions with people who share the same commonalities as her. Esperanza did not have too many friends, she comes off being a shy girl who likes to be quiet. As Esperanza found her passion for writing she was able to speak up for herself through her writing and make new friends with people around her age and that are older too. She shows that she has become a better person too because of the relationships she has had. As shown, Esperanza has been able to meet new friends through her

Poetry: the Enlightenment of a Forsaken Culture

...ENG 101B Poetry: The Enlightenment of a Forsaken Culture Poetry is an art that provokes the mind, transforms the soul and conveys sentiments unknown. It’s the literary means of conveying a cryptic outlook to an idea, theme or feelings composed by the author; a rhythmic pattern that utilizes rich and precise words in a piece; applies figurative language in order to transcend to an abstract or literal world. Poems use various styles of writing; either complex or straightforward language. Imagery, symbols and metaphors are also used. A poem can take many forms it be either short or long, meaningless or meaningful with the ability to illuminate and enrich the readers understanding with many aspects of life. Yet, for a poem to transcend time, the author must accomplish one fundamental thing: to create a connection between the poem and the reader. Thus, awakening of the mind, body, and soul. The poems chosen, are an attempt to understand and connect self to a forgotten and at times, unknown culture and heritage. To accomplish the task at hand, the first step was to search for Mexican-American poets. Second step was to find a common theme (culture and heritage) or writing style. Lastly, all of the poems needed to be predominantly in English. With a variety of Mexican-American poets, the task was not as simple, nonetheless, it was accomplished. The following five poems examine the language, symbols and metaphors used by the poets that elicit a deeper understanding of a culture:...

TACADAO, VANESSA CAREM C. TAR, KESSIA CAROL D. TOREFIEL, CHRISTINE G. December 11, 2014 I. Executive Summary This paper presents the case analysis of Zara, the largest and most internationalized of Indetex’s chains. In 2001, it operated for more than 507 stores in countries around the world, including Spain. It is a Spanish clothing and accessories retailer based in Galicia, Spain; which is founded by Amancio Ortega and Rosalia Mera. The advantage of Zara is that in just a span of three weeks, it can have a new product on its shelves ready for their consumer to purchase compared to their competitors that required from three to, even, six months. Also, the first store opened in La Coruña proved to be a success, and Ortega saw the opportunity to expand to other cities around Spain and even cities around the world. Due to rapid expansion of Zara, they suffer loss which is supposedly evitable. Zara does not take into account the product demanded in a certain country. Zara should focused on careful interpretation of the demand in a certain country for them to know whether to expand or not...

Culture Paper Level 3

...Scotland and Indonesia Scotland is part of the United Kingdom and shares a border with northern England; the majority of citizens are Caucasian. The country is divided into two regions: the highlands and lowlands. The highlands are a rocky, mountainous area with less population than the lowlands. There are not any big cities or land to farm; this leads to fewer opportunities for income and a low socioeconomic status. They are a proud group because of their Gaelic roots; they look down upon the British-like lowlanders. The lowlands’ mild climate and grasslands are favorable for farming and ranching. There are several cities and industries which are advantageous for work; Lowlanders have a higher socioeconomic status. Indonesia is made up of over 17,000 islands, but only about 6,000 are inhabited; the majority of the population lives on one of five main islands. Like Scotland, there are more opportunities for income in urban areas. The socioeconomic status of citizens in rural districts and on remote islands is lower; rice and tobacco farming are their main means of support. The main language spoken in Scotland is English, but the accent is very thick and hard for outsiders to understand. I interviewed K. Gow, a Canadian citizen, and through written questions, I interviewed her mother, E. Gow, who relocated from Scotland to Canada several years ago. K. Gow said, “You wouldn’t be able to understand my mum” (personal communication, July 29, 2012), and offered to interpret. E...
