SOUTHERN NEWHAMSHIRE UNIVERSITY Disaster situations can affect the life of women and children, the effects of these disasters can be mitigated by availing needed help promptly, the coordination of this emergency efforts needs player from different organizations to communicate to be effective.
Since different organizations use different communication gadgets, most depend on a base station routing communications. If this station is affected by the disaster; the operations of this organization on the field would be paralyzed. Considering that there could be several organizations responding to this disaster on the ground, the lack of communication could place the populace and the responders at risk for harm or death. …show more content…
It also provides connection to satellite communication services allowing for communication with entities outside the disaster zone. This can facilitate the provision of further assistance.
The iDAWG would allow UNICEF personnel on the ground to establish a local command center so as to coordinate the emergency rescue and recovery. It would also allow this command center to communicate with UNICEF personnel in other sectors of the affected area and also those outside the disaster affected area via satellite link.
From my research, the unit is described as deployable in a disaster area and requires no external infrastructure and has also been described as ‘scalable’. Ideally it “securely capture and share multiple wireless transmission media” (Marsden, Treglia, & McKnight, 2012). Further research is needed to establish the type of power supply needed to maintain the iDAWG …show more content…

Though GoTenna provides communication within short distances, UNICEF would be able to get valuable information from persons on the ground and keep ongoing communication in coordinating the response. Since the system requires no additional infrastructure, when coupled with hand crank USB chargers; cell phones that are already acceptable and prevalent technology would have some increased reliability. As compared to setting up CB radio facilities in the communities, this seems to be more practical approach.
From available literature, it seems as the manufactures have not found major partners to bring this technology to the mainstream, a partnership with UNICEF could get this technology “built into Smartphones” (Brunner, 2014).
The company behind the technology advises that the expected range is fifty mile, I could however find no collaborative evidence from users that this features advertised were accurate and will need further research to ascertain the
