Coaching, for many years, has been a widely used method of improving employee performance at Trustmark. Coaching is used at Trustmark for several reasons such as absenteeism, performance, etc. Coaching presents a priceless opening for employee development. For instance, coaching could be a way for management to present employees who struggle with confidence boost. Traditionally management might have sent those employees to a class on being assertive in hopes that this would address and boost their confidence. It has been proven time and time again that coaching also improves that manager/employee relationship. As stated in the Holy Bible Proverbs 9:9, “Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous …show more content…
This can also be an opportunity for the manager and employees to learn more about each other. Many times, coaching is utilized during performance evaluations at Trustmark. This is the opportune time to converse with an employee one-on-one and discuss any questions or concerns that the manager or the employee may have. This is typically the time when the manager might make suggestions to the employee that may help them perform their duties more efficiently. Harvard Business Essentials: Coaching and Mentoring (2004) states, “Preparation begins with direct observation, the goal being to understand the situation, the employee, and the employee’s current skills and behavior.” Coaching can also be very beneficial to not only the employee, but also to the organization as a whole. Some benefits of coaching include, but are not limited to:
• Strengthens employee skill which allows management to delegate more duties
• Helps the organization to prevent expensive and timewasting performance issues

The emphasis is on actual concerns, for instance, effective management, dialogue, and understanding how to reason tactically. This demands a coach who is able to teach the employee how they can improve their skills. Also, coaching is more for short-term use. A coach could effectively be engaged with the employee for a brief period of time, maybe a couple meetings. Coaching is also based on performance. Coaching, typically improves the employee’s job performance. This involves either enhancing current skills or acquiring new skills. From the way you handle winning or losing, how you handle your players, and the lessons you want to get across to them, philosophies in general are very broad and cover many different aspects of coaching.
