Nearly most of our school life has been laid out in the beginning. You are going to go from kindergarten to elementary to middle school. After that, the school’s goal is to make sure that you enter high school and they send you on your way, telling you to keep your grades up. But grades are not everything, because there are many smart or talented people that did not get where they are today by relying on grades, but hard work and a determined mind. That is a tool is one major thing I am using in my life, because not everything is simple in school to always get A’s, but it is simple to try if you put your mind to it. I want to go far, but I also know many people who have succeeded in their school life, but chose not to use it, so they instead …show more content…
But it isn’t always as it seems, because there are many little errors that not too many notice, even though they may have spent a lifetime there. People see Edgewater for only one part of it, the part with nice houses, business, and friendly environment, but that isn’t the entire truth. There is another part of Edgewater, which has simple buildings and less extravagant looking streets with many stores and little food businesses that are going on. This part of of Edgewater is a bit more dull and slightly more dangerous because there are more cars, but still a fairly good community. I live is between the dull and the bright section of Edgewater, which let me experience what was going in most of the community, but my life was a bit harder, seeing how my family does not have a lot of income going into the apartment. About a good 3 years ago, my father left my mother at night, saying that he was going to get some air, but didn’t come back. I wonder, when will he finish getting air? I still see him and he spends a lot of time with us, but he still hasn’t returned to our family and everything he had, leaving a ghost of the past loitering around. He made his choice, someone else over my mother, but what can I do, except stay strong and continue …show more content…
There are only very few that can resist temptation and understand the value of their decision. The simple answer of “No” can go a long way in life, from saying “No” to going out in order to study all the way to making grand life decisions, such as choosing your friends and the group of people you hang out with. In the eyes of others, I am not a social person, or even someone you might want to be around. Sometimes, I can even be treated be the plague, something that can ruin your day and you don’t want to be around. But if I had to be honest, I don’t care what people think of me. I have friends who count and I am a very social person, but I choose when to be it. There is no point in being social with those who care more about looks and popularity, because there is no gain and instead, it is a loss of time, and time is a valuable

Community Teaching Experience

...Community Teaching Experience I chose to do my teaching project at a community festival, Edgewater Founders Day 2015, honoring their founding. I was fortunate enough to have made friends with a couple of individuals that were of indescribable assistance. First was the group that allowed me to present my platform at their booth during the founder’s day celebration,The Golden Girls for Glory (Faith Based Social Club). A group of ladies that, by virtue of age, are considered older adults. They belong to varying church congregations of various faiths but come together regularly for community based activities and sponsor many events. Secondly, one of the Golden Girl’s husbands runs a printing shop and donated his time and much of the printed material, not the least of which were the banners for the canopy on the booth at the venue for the festival. The organizers of the event provided the tote bags, canopy and chairs. A local restaurant supplier married to another Golden Girl donated disposable shot glasses upon which stickers were applied. The Golden Girls Event Coordinator is the best friend of my roommate and was struggling to find a theme for their booth this year, and I just happened to be present during her conversation about her dilemma. When I asked if she would consider allowing me to do my presentation as their theme we were all ecstatic. My chosen topic was entitled “HAVE A SHOT>>>ITS GOOD FOR WHAT AILS YOU” An educational presentation for the promotion of health...

The Rich Dad, Poor Dad

...Many people work very hard, but they never seem to earn enough. In Rich Dad, Poor Dad, Robert Kiyosaki explains how to escape this "rat race" and achieve financial independence. According to our general perception everybody should go to school, get high grades and then get a good job, right? Wrong! Well, at least if financial independence is what you are aiming at. Our education system is the number one cause of why so many people struggle financially. Schools teach people how to work for money, but they do not teach them how money can work for them. This lack of financial skills taught in school means that even highly educated people generally do not know how to handle money. The result is that the majority of people get trapped in work to pay their bills and are chasing paychecks all their life. This is the sad conclusion Robert Kiyosaki draws in his bestselling book Rich Dad, Poor Dad.  Luckily, he also offers a way out. A way to get ahead. The fundamental trouble with working for money is that a job is a short term solution to a long term problem. People believe that if they get that raise, or get a new job they will finally have enough. However, if you do not know how money works, you can never have enough. Money alone will not solve anything, it will even get most people into more debt. So what is the secret to financial independence? Close the doors.. "Know what an asset is, acquire them and become rich." That's it! Easy, huh? The trouble is that people are not properly...

...FBI Study Finds Active Shooter Incidents Increasing By: Amanda Vicinanzo, Senior Editor 10/22/2014 ( 9:40am) In partnership with Texas State University’s Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center, the FBI in 2014 initiated a study of active shooter incidents to provide law enforcement and first responders with data to help them better prevent, prepare for, respond and recover from future incidents.   The report, A Study of Active Shooter Incidents in the United States Between 2000 and 2013, evaluated 160 active shooter incidents, including those at Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook Elementary School, the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, Fort Hood, the Aurora (Colorado) Cinemark Century 16 movie theater, the Sikh Temple in Wisconsin, the Washington Navy Yard and numerous other tragic shootings.   Special Agent Katherine Schweit, who heads the FBI’s Active Shooter Initiative, says she hopes the study “demonstrates the need not only for enhanced preparation on the part of law enforcement and other first responders, but also for civilians to be engaged in discussions and training on decisions they’d have to make in an active shooter situation.”   The FBI emphasized that the report evaluates active shootings, a term more specific than “mass shootings,” which does not encompass all mass killings or shootings in public places. The FBI defines active shooters as “individuals actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in populated areas (excluding shootings...

Animal Farm

...A TEACHER’S GUIDE TO THE SIGNET CLASSIC EDITION OF GEORGE ORWELL’S ANIMAL FARM By HAZEL K. DAVIS, Federal Hocking High School, Stewart, OH S E R I E S W. GEIGER ELLIS, ED.D., E D I T O R S : UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA, EMERITUS and ARTHEA J. S. REED, PH.D., UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA, RETIRED A Teacher’s Guide to the Signet Classic Edition of George Orwell’s Animal Farm 2 INTRODUCTION Animal Farm is an excellent selection for junior and senior high students to study. Although on one level the novel is an allegory of the 1917 Russian Revolution, the story is just as applicable to the latest rebellion against dictators around the world. Young people should be able to recognize similarities between the animal leaders and politicians today. The novel also demonstrates how language can be used to control minds. Since teenagers are the target not only of the educational system itself but also of advertising, the music industry, etc., they should be interested in exploring how language can control thought and behavior. Animal Farm is short and contains few words that will hamper the reader’s understanding. The incidents in the novel allow for much interactive learning, providing opportunities for students to dramatize certain portions, to expand on speeches, and to work out alternative endings. The novel can be taught collaboratively with the history department as an allegory of the Russian Revolution, allowing students to draw parallels...
