The use of my strengths has been a very helpful resource in the past few months, although I started off a little bit weak in using them, and I believe I have been getting better and better at applying them in my daily life without even having to think about it. At the beginning I did not use my strengths all the time, or at least, the ones that were provided by the Signature Strengths Survey. I had to try to remember to use them in order to even remember that I had any strengths. However, as time has been passing and life has been going on, I have learned that there are times when I have used my strengths, especially my top strength, which is kindness and generosity, without even noticing that I was. I noticed that I am the kind of person who does not have to be thinking on the back of my mind that I have certain strengths which are prevalent in my persona, to actually be using them; in fact, a lot of them I practiced unconsciously, without even being aware of it.

There were times where I was not using my strengths, not because I was not thinking about them, or because I did not want to, but rather because perhaps I was angry, or having a fight with someone and that affected the way the rest of my day went, not leaving me any space to be kind, or grateful, or even fair. At the moment, just like when I was using them I did not think about it, the same happens when I am not using them; it is not something that seems to matter at the moment, but rather when I go home and do a little reflection on how my day was, and all the things I did, good or bad, it seems that the better days are when I am using my strengths.

When I do not use my strengths, and think about it analyzing the details of my actions that particular day, I realize that a lot of things did not go as I wanted them to, because I was not being the person that I really am, I was not applying the virtues that I possess in order to make my life better. When I do use my strengths, and realize that I have been using them, I feel like a better person, and everything I do, because I put every good aspect of my personality into what I do, seems to go smoothly, and a lot better. When I practice kindness, gratitude, loyalty, and fairness, which are some of my top strengths, I feel more satisfied with each day, and with my accomplishments.

Paying attention to my strengths always makes me feel very good, because I become aware of them, and reinforce them even more when I am thinking of them and taking them into account on my daily life. It is important to pay attention to them, and to make sure that we are applying them the right way, and not just using them whenever they are needed, but instead, always have them present and active. Paying attention to my strengths is something that I did not necessarily have to do in order to actually be using them, but doing it has helped me notice when I use them most, in which situations they are most needed in, and who are the people who react to them with gratitude. I believe that is a very important part of paying attention to my strengths, and analyzing the way I have used them at the end of each day; knowing who are the people who appreciate your treatment with them, the way you regard each person, and how you are concerned that they feel well treated when they are around you. As humans, and as members of a society, I believe we have a certain need or drive to know what people think of us, and how they see us, and this is a very good way to improve any thoughts someone else might have of ourselves, it is a positive way to treat any flaws we have as individuals, because regardless of how many strengths we possess, we are still humans, and are still not perfect.

I could say that maybe I have changed in some ways, but not necessarily because of the use of my strengths, life has put me in some situations recently, which I would have never thought would cross my path in this life, and this has made me realize that life is only a moment, and that we should be the best we can be while we are here, because it is our spirit that people will remember when we are gone, and that is where the strengths come in. In my case, in the future when I am gone, or just when I am not present in a certain place, I would want to be remembered and talked about as a kind, generous person, as someone who appreciated life and people, someone who is loyal, and always was. These are some of the reasons which make me want to apply my strengths in every aspect of life that I can, and strengthen them even more, as well as acquiring more and more strengths as I go along.

...Migrating to Canada for the Irish emigrants was not something they did for leisure reasons, but more of a life or death decision put upon them. In the 19th century, England made Ireland a part of Great Britain rather than just a colony. Ireland became greatly over-populated, having a population of 8 million people. The agriculture and production of grain became extremely difficult due to the vast amount of people, and something needed to be changed. A new phenomenon spread across the country of switching from a grain based diet to potato, which took up way less room and was also highly nutritious. This worked wonders for the Irish until a huge disaster hit all: an airborne fungus that destroyed all the crops for several years. This left Ireland with the biggest ultimatum: to either stay there and most likely be faced with death, or to follow the quest for the new world in British North America.
