In 1692 two girls in a puritan community became suddenly and surprisingly ill. They toppled to the ground and trembled uncontrollably. The girls, who were named Sarah and Jillian, slowly regained their health. They told their parents that three eccentric woman had cast a spell upon them. One of the woman that Sarah and Jillian had seen was the slave Tituba. She was taken to court and forced to confess, to the hostile judge, seeing the devil and practicing evil rituals and spells.
