I would like to start off this letter with congratulations to Batelco over the massive improvements they have made in speed for both Home and Business Broadband connections. As a loyal customer of Batelco, who has been with the company for over 25 years, I can attest to the great leaps Batelco has made in terms of both affordability and quality. That’s not to say, however, that there is no room for improvement. One area that is in sore need of attention is Customer Service.
For the past several months, an item has been appearing on my bill named “Additional E-mail Charges”. The cost of this item is a whopping BD 12.500 a month!! To put this in perspective, for one of the months in question, my actual calling charges were only between 100-200 fils. The rest of the bill was the fixed line rental, the internet rental and the Additional E-mail Charges. In order to find out exactly what these charges were, I decided to call the Batelco helpline on 196. The executive I spoke with told me that this particular Additional E-mail Charge did not appear in my bill on his system. He also told me that since I only had the original free email address assigned to me by Batelco when I first took the internet connection, this charge on my bill made no sense. He asked me to visit the Batelco Building in Manama and speak to the executives there face to face and register a complaint. This is where all the trouble began. The executives at the Batelco Building told me to register a complaint over the phone. The person I spoke with on the phone then asked me to register my complaint personally. And so on and so forth. When I was finally able to register a complaint (on the phone), the lady I spoke with assured me that I would receive a complaint reference number on my cell phone in 5 minutes. That was over a month ago. I am still waiting for that message to arrive.

...Julia, My love I find it hard to express my monumentous feelings for you in the short scattered, conversations we must resort to. I pondered on this problem for days on end, until I thought to write you a letter. I gave it to you myself since those post office fools are not to be trusted. After finding a way to express myself I had to find out how to express myself. Please bear with me since I know you are not much of a reader. Julia, as you walk this earth our country is still young, and there is still hope of a rebellion. Your generation could be our last hope, and if you manage to overthrow our unwanted leader we could marry and spend our time together without worry. I long for the day where we have our own bed and our own room without the menacing telescreeen on the opposite wall. I picture your face on everything I see in a day. Your long flowing dark hair, your young fresh body. You have awoken in me a love I have never known before. All my life I have longed for companionship, and with you I get that and much more. You are my world, Julia, you make this barren, colourless world habitable, and with your courage we can make it bright and vibrant again! If we fail, however, we fail together, but they cannot take away our love. The party cannot reach inside of us and pull out our powerful love. As I wait for your arrivals above Mr. Charrington’s shop, I know that we will one day part, but I also know that when we part we will always remember the times we have......

...Creating Texts: Letter Writing By Lachlan Reid – 989856 August 26, 1991 (letter ONE) Dear Charlie, I wish I could send you this letter, but I understand why you wish that I don’t know you. I want you to know that I will try to figure out who you are, I’ve always liked to know who I am writing to and I’m sorry for that. I promise that if I find you, I will not approach you, I will simply leave the replies to your letters for you, I may see you but you won’t see me. Promise me not to be mad, please? I will always reply to your letters, I believe that’s what you should do with letters, don’t you? As you tell me about your life, I will tell you about mine. I can already tell that we may be more similar than you may think and have experienced events in our short lives that may also be similar. I’m sorry to hear about your friend Michael, I can only imagine how his suicide has affected you. I have never experienced the loss of someone to suicide, although I have lost family members who were very close to me. I’ve seen school counsellors who tell me that “time heels grief and the pain”, but some days I wonder if the grief and pain will ever go away. I hope you never think of killing or hurting yourself Charlie, you appear to be an intellectual person, who many people would miss if you were gone. I think it’s good to cry, not all the time and for no reason, but sometimes things hurt so badly that we can’t help but cry. I know after I’ve had a cry, I often......

...I’ve kept this for so long… was too bashful then. Now lost times haunt me big time (yet bashful still). I’m not expecting a reply for this, no more. I mean, first of all, you hardly know me and I’m not even sure if you still remember me. I just don’t wanna deprive you of the due compliment. The fact that I’ve sent this, it already paid it all actually. The sentiment, the time, and the other ones indescribable, they were given justice at the instant. And so I thank you. As I’ve mentioned in the letter, I hope this serves a thing of inspiration to you (well, at the most). My only prayer is that this crap will hopefully make you more feel good about yourself; even for just a little or even for a single second perhaps. There’s really nothing much I can do now to return the favor back but this. You seem to have all things by far. Ako naman, I got everything to offer that is when pigs fly. I should have given this during the Joy Luck Club time. The original letter is preserved since then, except for the month stuff… you’ll see. A little look back from those times will probably help you understand some jargon. Ooh by the way, if you’re wondering, I got your account from the people search engine via the UP site… and definitely with some help from a friend named Marnie. Hope you don’t mind. Ei just to clarify, I’m no stalker here. Needed to say that, you might be freaked out. Ding! Another offense. Did some net surfing just lately and also found out curly......

My ultimate dream is to become a flight attendant, cabin crew, flight crew or whatever they call this. Yes, I’ve been dreaming to become one someday and I am trying to give my very best for this not to become an unclear vision. I want this to manifest, I want this to happen in my life in every good ways or means I can. As I’ve said on my recent posts, I love to go somewhere, I love to experience different culture, and I want to meet new and different people. There are some times in my life when I face mirror, stand classically and gracefully and try to imitate flight attendants posture and speaking. I used to act like there are passengers and I am orienting them with safety procedures inside the plane. To train to become a flight attendant costs so much, that’s why my parents wasn’t able to send me to those......

...Age discrimination is a large issue in the United States today. All ages can be discriminated against, teenagers are considered shifty and untrustworthy, elderly considered incapable, youth considered boisterous. It affects not only the people who are discriminated against, but also those who lose valuable relationships by judging them based on age. An example of this is one day me and a couple of friends were hanging out one night in Times Square just going into random stores looking around, taking pictures, and doing what normal teenagers do when they’re in a group. We all walk laughing into the M&M store. We walk by the section where they had the random little M&M toys, walk by the candy, and then walk out without making any purchases. What is the first perception of this? It might be, and in many cases it is, that we stole something. Maybe the employee working behind the register will even go as far as to call the police on these teens, who didn’t steal anything, but were discriminated against simply because we were “unruly teenagers”. This happens every day, all over America. We don’t tell the youth very much, because they “won’t understand”, they’re “too young”. We gawk when elderly people run marathons, or even participate in simple recreational activities such as volleyball or swimming, because they are “old”, and “incapable”. People who are discriminated against, no matter the reason, can be hurt by it. Age discrimination is the same as racial......

"In the loose girdle of soft rain." Part Three: Poetry: Page 295 This specific line created a lovely visual of someone loosening their belt to see how much rain they can catch in their pants. This line is an example of a metaphor as well as personification. I believe the author is trying to ask how much room will there be for memoirs. He compares the rain to a loosened belt allowing room for growth. "And liable to melt as snow." Part Three: Poetry: Page 296 This specific line emphasis how fragile the letters are that have been pressed. It is an example of a simile. A Love Letter for U

...10 Ways to Be Happier How happy are you―really? If there’s room for improvement, try one of these suggestions. by Gretchen Rubin A few years ago, on a morning like any other, I had a sudden realization: I was in danger of wasting my life. As I stared out the rain-spattered window of a New York City bus, I saw that the years were slipping by.   “What do I want from life?” I asked myself. “Well…I want to be happy.” I had many reasons to be happy: My husband was the tall, dark, handsome love of my life; we had two delightful girls; I was a writer, living in my favorite city. I had friends; I had my health; I didn’t have to color my hair. But too often I sniped at my husband or the drugstore clerk. I felt dejected after even a minor professional setback. I lost my temper easily. Is that how a happy person would act?   I decided on the spot to begin a systematic study of happiness. (A little intense, I know. But that’s the kind of thing that appeals to me.) In the end, I spent a year test-driving the wisdom of the ages, current scientific studies, and tips from popular culture. If I followed all the advice, I wanted to know, would it work?   Well, the year is over, and I can say: It did. I made myself happier. And along the way I learned a lot about how to be happier. Here are those lessons.  1. Don’t start with profundities. When I began my Happiness Project, I realized pretty quickly that, rather than jumping in with lengthy daily meditation or answering deep......

Love Letter to a Piece of Technology

...To What Piece of Technology Would You Write a ‘Love Letter’? Dear Computer, It is true, that I’ve never addressed my feeling towards you in letter, although we spent extraordinary amounts of time together. For this, I owe you a special gesture in form of a letter. Since our beginning in 2009, we’ve had some good times – especially those revolving around playing games and browsing the web, but also the ones that includes me typing in my homework on you. Those were the very best, and I wouldn’t use any other computer in the world for this particular assignment. With that in mind, I should take this opportunity to explain why I sometimes use other computers – it’s not that I don’t enjoy your company or that you’ve become technologically outdated, it’s simply a matter of convenience. I invested in this nifty little laptop, not to replace you, but so I didn’t have to bring you all the way to school every day, because, let’s face it, you are somewhat heavy. The Intel Q9450 CPU and 16 GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM really make the weight go up, along with the ATI 5850 GFX-card. But it’s these little details that I appreciate about you. Anyways, I should probably tell you how much you really mean to me, and as you can probably tell by all the countless hours I spend using you, it’s a whole lot. I don’t think it’s going too far as to say that I deeply and utterly love you! You’ve made my life better by being so vast in computing power, so ever silent while powered on and you’ve......

...know how to write in cursive or be confused by the thought of comprising sentences in a manner that inspires the feelings embedded in the message without having to read the message itself. The art of penmanship isn’t just drawing shapes and lines to form letters and words to be interpreted once read, but to let corresponding passion manifest in the style in which the words themselves are being written. Most of today’s generations and those to come will only know how to compose an email or a memo. Albeit both mediums share the exact same outcome, a message sent, received, and handled accordingly, there are differences in the two that may not be as obvious to those who feel indifferent about the matter than to someone who has a passion for words, writing, and the myriad of emotions invoked by their content and construction. There’s a beauty to behold in a love letter, intensely felt by the heart, carefully thought by the brain, and meticulously crafted by the hand, meant to touch the heart and soul of the receiver. There’s also a satisfaction in appreciating the beauty of not only the message contained in a love letter but the construction of it as well. Whether it’s intended or subconscious, the style in which a love letter is written speaks to the author’s mood while composing it. Long, whimsical strokes of his pen come together to form words that are meant to invoke the same feelings in the recipient that floods the author’s own body. Perhaps the way he writes his words,......

The Scarlett Letter Essay

...Alyissa Li Brown Mrs. Dick American Literature October 19, 2012 The Many Shades of Red The color red: it is beautiful, rich, and full of meaning. It represents many different things in today’s world such as love, danger, and revenge. Similarly, in the novel, The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the color red is especially prominent. Color is important in this novel because every color has symbolic meaning behind it. This device of symbolism is used well in the novel, especially through the color red. It is the most important color because it is used the most, in the title of the book, and the color of the ‘A’. The color red symbolizes passion, shame and ultimately love. In The Scarlet Letter, it begins with a detailed description of a rose bush which symbolizes Hester and her passion. Roses are obviously red so immediately, red is going to be a very important color. In the following quote, it describes the rose bush and how it represents Hester: “This rose bush by a strange chance, has been kept alive in history; but whether it had merely survived out of the stern old wilderness, so long after the fall of the gigantic pines and oaks that originally overshadowed it, - or whether, as there is fair authority for believing, it had sprung up under the footsteps of the sainted Ann Hutchinson, as she entered the prison-door, - we shall not take upon us to determine” (50). This is the first encounter with red. It is the description of a wild red rosebush growing......

Death Is Not the End of Love

...End of Love Alice Dunbar Nelson was an influential African American teacher, poet, essayist, social activist, journalist and feminist in the late 19th century. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana she graduated from both high school and college and traveled often throughout her life. Best known for her shorts fictional stories more so than her poetry, influences on the Harlem Renaissance, and political and social activism, Alice Dunbar Nelson had many achievements within the African American community as well as in her literature. Her writings addressed women’s roles in society, intra-racial prejudice, and education, issues of identity, racism, love and sexuality. Also her popular yet chaotic marriage to Paul Laurence Dunbar was widely known and somewhat added to her writing career. Alice Dunbar Nelson experienced two additional failed marriages in her lifetime. Later in her life she wrote less as she became more active in political causes. Alice Dunbar Nelson died in 1935 at age sixty of heart failure. Many of her writings highlighted the life experiences and emotions of African American women in her time. Alice Dunbar Nelson’s first book Violets and Other Tales was one of her earliest works; a collection of short stories and poems. This book was published in 1895 in Boston when she was just twenty years old. Although the book has multiple writings, “Violets” will be the focus of this poem analysis. “Violets” within the collection is a poetic short story about a past love......
