Have you ever known something that you had to keep secret? In the novel The Marino Mission , we meet Alexa who is forced to go to Nicaragua with her mom and ends up apart of a clandestine mission. Alexa’s mission is complex. Alexa’s mission is clandestined. Alexa’s mission exudes secrecy because she hides it from her mom, is on a military base, and does all of this on a remote island that isn’t on a map.
To start, Alexa has information about a dolphin but isn’t telling her mom. She and her friend José are hunting for a dolphin’s baby all while keeping it from her mom. Alexa and Jose have discovered that a dolphin named Pecas is missing her baby and they wonder if that baby is being held captive at Puerto Marino. (the place where Alexa is living) In order to find out if the baby at Puerto Marino is Pecas’ Alexa has to test the baby’s DNA. However, she needs help. “Alexa thought José would be able to join her in the lab” (Chapman, pg. ). Alexa could have asked her mom to help her but she didn’t. …show more content…

When Alexa and her mother first arrive to Puerto Marino they are informed about the dolphins. “They have a big project there studying sonar marine mammals”(Chapman pg. 15). Confidential is put across the paper in big bold letters because they are working with the Navy, which means that everything that happens there is top secret information.
