Just minutes before the sun went dipping behind the horizon, he was sliding under the truck, wiping his hands across the chest of his fading coveralls, clinching the screwdriver between his teeth. Pushing the creeper towards the dripping oil pan, he noticed a whole new problem. An unfamiliar hand was grasping his ball pin hammer from the cold pavement. The unknown figure began laughing, knowing they had the advantage. The early morning sun crept through the drab curtains before finally resting upon a good patch of repulsive carpet. Meanwhile, Michael Graham stares at his ceiling, eagerly trying to savor the few precious minutes before his alarm clock screams to life. Michael was a blue-collar man from humble beginnings. He was the kind of guy who didn't mind having dirt under his fingernails or grease sporadically placed on his clothes. However, being the proud owner of a declining automotive shop was all Michael really had left. His marriage to Linda lasted for seventeen years before the premature demise of their son, Dominic. Michael never noticed the alcohol slowly conquering every aspect of his life - eventually compelling Linda to raise the white flag and file for divorce. Michael sat hunched over his bed, swigging from the bottle of whiskey that he hadn't finished from the night before. He continued to reflect on the past year as he sustained his morning routine by gulping the remaining contents of the bottle, on his way to the bathroom. The day had carried on just like any other day in every other small town across the country. However, the small town of Fairmont Colorado was operating on all cylinders. The barista on Main St. had been filling the morning air with the rich smell of cheap coffee beans. The mailman has just begun his route and the nearby elementary school had rung its morning bells. Michael pulled up to his automotive shop doing at least ten mph over the speed limit. His radio blaring alternative rock from the early 90's, while a half smoked cigarette hangs awkwardly from his lips as he sings along with the tune. Michael opened the automotive shop by unlocking the garage door and sliding it to the ceiling. He headed straight for the refrigerator that he kept tucked away in the back of the shop. Michael's schedule was nowhere close to hectic. In fact, he only had: an oil pan to change, a few brake pads to replace, and time to kill. Since Michael had all these thing planned out, knowing that they wouldn't take him to long. He decided he would have a few beers for breakfast then proceed with the rest of his day. Almost having completed the super huge list of arduous tasks. He moved on to his final project of the night, just as the sun dipped behind the horizon. Michael slide under the pickup truck unaware that he had a visitor. He looked at the oil pan once more to make an accurate estimation of the tools he would need for removal. Since he already had the screwdriver clinched between his teeth, he handled those first. When Michael finished up with the screws, he knew he would need a ratchet next. He looked down to spot the ratchet when he noticed his ball pin hammer being picked up from the cold pavement by another. "Ha ha ha ha" the unknown figure chuckled as he picked up the hammer. "Who's there?" said Michael, slightly caught off guard by the mysterious laughter. Not knowing if he could withstand the confrontation that awaited him when he emerged from under the pickup. "What do you want? We're closed?" Michael said in a stern voice. "I want to see..." the unknown figure replied. "You want to see what?" Michael quickly muttered as he started to become annoyed by the situation. "I want to see you die" said the mysterious voice with a real emphasis on the last part. Michael wasn't quite sure if he was hearing everything in the proper context since he had a pint for lunch and a few beers for breakfast. He slowly began to slide the creeper out from under the pickup, slightly holding his breath while he grips the screwdriver a little tighter with his right hand. "Okay pal, it's time to leave" said Michael as he began sliding out from under the pickup. Every millisecond revealed something new about the mysterious figure holding the hammer as more of the him came into view. Michael emerged from under the pickup shocked to see the figure still standing over him. The figure was wearing a loose fitting black jacket with the hood conveniently hiding his face. "Alright asshole it's time to go or I'm calling the police!" said Michael as he looked up at the man still holding his ball pin hammer. The unknown figure began to laugh once more as he raised the hammer over his head. He thrust the hammer downward. The swift motion of the unknown figure altered the hood on the jacket just enough for Michael to catch a glimpse of the man. Just before the hammer struck Michael in the head and killing him he called out "Dominic".

Technology in Mechanics

...Technology in Mechanics Nowadays, there has been a significant advancement of technology in mechanics. These advancement made it possible for human being to walk on Moon (kurianjoseph1, 2013). This feature, in turn had created a fact as the powerful of technology.Various technologies surrounding us are helping people to improve their life with more luxury. So the using of technology in mechanics impacts to us positively. There are one cause and two effects why the technology is using. Mechanics is the basis of early and modern technology. According to a study by (B.Cotterell & J.Kamminga, 1992), the advancement of technology in mechanics plays a fundamental role in the study of material culture. In simple term, mechanics can explain how artifacts operate technologically and how efficient or the effective they are. For example, a cooling system is a technology in a mechanics. In relation to this, (V.A.W.Hillier, 2004) stated that the function of cooling system is to remove heat from the mechanics’ engine for keeping their temperature within safe limits and avoid any problems. With the engine combustion reaching extremely high temperature, the heat needs to be dissipated. A cooling system is essential to prevent the engine from burning. Another function of the cooling system is to regulate the temperature inside the passenger compartment and ensure the passengers’ comfort. So, it can be seem that the use of technology in mechanics has become an...

Quantum Mechanics

...Quantum mechanics Rohan Agarwal It is common knowledge that matter is comprised of particles. Or is it? We all think that light consists of waves. How true are these claims? Although it may seem counterintuitive on the surface, various experiments and supporting theories have proved that the line between what is particulate and what is wavelike is finer than we imagine. At a fundamental, sub-atomic level, matter and light are both wavelike and particulate; it is only on the macroscopic scale that the divisions become better defined. The study of the physical laws that govern the realm of the very small, such as atoms, protons, and the like; developed from Planck’s quantum principle and Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle are termed as quantum mechanics. The principles of quantum mechanics revolve around two major theories- the wave-particle duality, and, in extension to this, the theory that it is possible for absolutely small particles to be in two different states at the same time. Theoretical physicists have arrived at these conclusions after powerful observations of experiments, and these will be discussed in due course. Before doing so, it is imperative to understand that this quantum strangeness does not transfer to the macroscopic world, and so some claims in this article will seem absurd. In order to demonstrate this, Erwin Schrodinger published a paper in 1935, containing a thought experiment, now popularly known as Schrodinger’s cat. A cat is put in a steel chamber...

Being an auto mechanic is not a job for everyone, but I believe it is the right job for me. Being an auto mechanic requires many different things including having a wide range of tools, extensive knowledge about the automobiles and the to work on them everyday. One of the most important purchases for a mechanic is his tools. One of the requirements for just about every auto mechanic job is that you bring your own tools. The reason for this is that while mechanics are trusted to work on vehicles, If a shop provided them tools to do work there would be no guarantee that the tools would be put back where in...

Fluid Mechanics

...Fluid Mechanics Learning Objectives Outcomes • Explain the pressure-depth relationship. Pressure increases with depth. • Define Pascal’s Principle. Pascal's Principle states that the pressure is transmitted evenly through a liquid. • Describe how to use Pascal’s Principle in practical application. When you inflate a balloon with air, it expands evenly in all directions, this is an example. • Describe Archimedes Principle. States that the mass of a liquid displaced by a floating body is equal to the mass of that body. • Determine if an object will float in a fluid based on its relative densities. So if you fill a tumbler up with water to the brim, put an object into it, weigh the water that has been pushed out of the tumbler, and compare that with the weight of the object, you'll know whether it floats or not. • Use the continuity equation and Bernoulli’s equation to explain common effects of ideal fluid flow. The pressure in a fluid moving steadily without friction or outside energy input decreases when the fluid velocity increases Assignment Requirements 3. Mass is the same, so if the whale is taking up less volume, the density must have increased. The whale has displaced a greater mass of water at the depth, so the buoyant force is greater. 20. Ice cubes float in water, and sink in alcohol. Anything with less density than the liquid that it's in will float. 22. It will increase 35. Introduction to Quantum Mechanics

...Quantum mechanics is an area of physics dealing with phenomena where the action is of the order of the Planck constant. The Planck constant is a very tiny amount and so this domain of physics is typically on the distance and momentum scale of atoms and elementary particles in general. Action is a general physical concept related to dynamics and is most easily recognized in the form of angular momentum. The most tangible way of expressing the essence of quantum mechanics is that we live in a universe of quantized angular momentum and the Planck constant is the quantum. A tangible result of the quantization of angular momentum is the existence of discrete electron orbitals, each with a principal quantum number and each orbital with an associated angular momentum that is an integer multiple of the Planck constant. Quantum mechanics has many implications on the microscopic scale, some of which are obscure and even counter intuitive. Classical physics explains matter and energy at the macroscopic level of the scale familiar to human experience, including the behavior of astronomical bodies. It remains the key to measurement for much of modern science and technology. On the other hand, at the end of the 19th century scientists discovered phenomena in both the large (macro) and the small (micro) worlds that classical physics could not explain. Coming to terms with these limitations led to the development of quantum mechanics, a major revolution in physics. This article describes how...
